  • Hi I’m Sarah from You Floral!
I’ve put together this video to tell you everything you need to know when you’re looking into DIY’ing your wedding flowers!
The agenda for this tutorial is:
    Who we are
    - At You Floral we supply bulk flowers and greenery for folks who want to DIY, shipping all across Canada and the US
    How ordering works
    - We ship our flowers shipped directly to your house, from one of our many warehouse hubs
    - We suggest ordering 3 weeks in advance, the reason is that we order flowers specifically in for your wedding, so we need that advance time to book the order with the farm
    - When should you get the flowers
o We suggest getting flowers Wednesday for a Saturday wedding, this gives time for the flowers to open up, and gives a bit of wiggle room if anything goes awry
    - What do you do when flowers arrive
o You’ll need to cut the ends with pruners and place them in water right away
    - Daily plan for the flowers
o Wednesday = receive the flowers and put them in water
o Thursday = make the arrangements
o Friday = make the boutineers
    o Saturday = wedding
    - Where to store the flowers
o You don’t need anywhere special to store the flowers, just keep them away from harsh sunlight/drafts, and away from pets/children
    - What supplies you need
    o Pruners (check Michaels/Home Depot/Canadian Tire)
o Buckets (check the dollar store)
§ Get some smaller buckets for the more delicate flowers
§ Bathroom trash cans are good for storing flowers (max 3 bunches of flowers per bucket)
    o Floral tape
o Cable ties/zap straps (check dollar store)
    - When to make the flowers
o We suggest making the arrangements the day after they arrive, they need that initial day to re-hydrate and to start to open up
    - Considerations for boutineers
o We make the boutineers from flower scraps, our fav flower to use is a spray rose
o Make the boutineers on a Friday (for a Saturday wedding), store them in a tupperwear container that has a damp papertowel in the bottom, and then store in the fridge
o Boutstix are a great tool (they are magnets), so you don’t have holes in your suit
    o Floral tape is key
    - How many flowers do you need for each item
    o Bridal bouquet
§ Generally 20 stems of flowers for bridal bouquets
§ Use a minimum of 5 different types of flowers, varying from small to large sized flowers. For large sized I like roses (carnations are a good sub for a budget), large sized mums are also great. For medium sized I like ranunculus and scabiosa, and for smaller sized I like waxflower and limonium.
    o Bridesmaids
§ Generally 15 stems of flowers for bridesmaid bouquets
§ Use one bunch of greenery for every 3 bouquets.
    o Bouts
    § Scraps of leftover flowers
o Arch (medium sized cluster stype)
§ 30 stems of flowers (I like to use carnations as they are quite budget friendly, and then mix in a couple other kinds too)
§ 6 bunches of greenery (I like to use some greenery that covers a lot of space like salal, and then a mix of other greenery that you like)
