  • The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is set to close for the next 18 months as the first major renovation of the building takes place since the facility opened in 1976. Before the museum closes the door on its original form I asked Jason Vansickle, curator of the museum, to take my viewers on one last tour, from the Marmon Wasp... and beyond!

I had the pleasure of seeing the museum in 2019 with my dad and uncles what a great time so much history of the sport. It was a tribute to Mario that year but so cool seeing all the winning cars. the band played through the museum how often do you see that happen what a great time. And you could even buy discount T-shirts from prior years.

That "sidecar" machine though - one wonders what sort of substance Smokey Yunick was ingesting when he thought up of that one...

I liked that you were showing off some pre-WWII cars. I dont know nearly as much about that period as i do the 60s onward.

Don't feel too bad. As soon as they started talking about the Novi the name "Duke Nolan" came to my mind... and that roar...........

In this segment- Part 2 of 3...there are several of the cars as favorites of mine. Jim Clark's Lotus-Ford (model #34) is Mong the top three. I said this before in other Indy "500" UA-cam videos of the 48th "500" running of the '64 race is...what a shame Colin Chapman's selection of Dunlop tires over Firestone's would possibly have made Clark place in the race be first.
That Alfa-Romero looks great. Ted Horn's #43 of the 1935 Indianapolis "500" race is a beauty. Shame it had "freezing" steering gear problems took him out. His literally unbeatable high placing "500" finishes (4th place or higher but, less than 1st place) would have been amazing. In my opinion, Horn should have won the "500" at least once. His untimely death in October of '48 was a loss for the racing community.
    91.5 c.i.d. size engines...(1 and-a-half) ... that's near a VW "Bug" was!
The great NOVI car...what a great looking machine!
The Maurice Phillpe design along with a few other designers of the 1972 Indy racer...what a pretty car! One of those "top three favorites" of mine. Al Unser, Sr. was my favorite driver of that "Super Team". Al's Indy finishes in his career was fantastic! I saw in person, three of his four "500" Indy victories (1970, 1971, and '78)

I was at the Milwaukee Mile in 1968 (Rex Mays 150). Art Pollard & Joe Leonard were driving the wedge STP cars. I believe that was a win for Lloyd Ruby. Sadly, Ronnie Duman was killed on lap 2.

They aren't rear engine, they are mid rear engine (rear engine is like Porsche 911, Renault Alpine a110, a310, first gen vw beetle, etc)

Curious about that myself. Like they mentioned if they put current tire technology on Arie's car they believe it would go a lot faster. But what if they put current tire technology on The Beast?
