No one called SMT4/5 a Persona reskin, or Etrian Odyssey a Persona reskin, or Trauma Center a Persona reskin, or Radiata Historia a Persona reskin, or Catherine a Persona reskin and so on. Guess why they're calling these latest Atlus games Persona 5 reskins and other original titles were not? It has nothing to do with Atlus or a turn-based battle system based on exploting the enemy's weaknesses (very very similar to SMT's).
@@fiaschampion3379They call it a reskin cus its not a persona game yet feels like a persona game- but its not a persona game once you play it and not yapping it becomes Metaphore refantazio. The social links, calendar system, turned based system is obviously will be similiar to previous titles but its there owm kitchen just let them cook with the ingredients what everybody loves from them.
@proscuitt yeah its insane. Nobody said Elden Ring "Dark Souls reskin"... They're from the same developer for god sake, they have their own i say 'unique' gameplay mechanic, let them use it, its proved successfully in P5. They even improved it.
I mean, the game does lift the Persoan 5 formula whole cloth more than Persona 3 or 4, it even does the whole "Villain is gonna do X by this date, so now you have until that date to complete the dungeon", on boss battles you even get the whole "send a party memeber to do a thing to make the boss easier" altho implemented much more poorly than in Persona 5, with only the combat system being different, but the combat System is more of an improvement of the DDS combat system. It even ends with your character summoning the strongest "Archetype" of his personal line and shooting the (Louis turned into) God of control main villain in the head wile the whole world cheers on you with the special magic that turns public approval into power pwoering you up.
The game is different, the "confidants" or followers in this game are better in my opinion, this time around your choices don't make the ranks advance faster, so you can be true to yourself qhen choosing options and don't feel the need to be optimal The combat mechanic are so much better and ask for much more strategy, you archetypes actually matter, your synthesis attacks are your strongest tools at the risk of wasting your turns if you don't exploit the right weaknesses The row system is genius, if you're struggling in surviving you can go to the back row to take less damage at the price of doing less damage Leveling up archetypes gives you access to more skills and more weaknesses to exploit, passing turns has actual value since it only consumes half an action The real time combat does make a difference, half of the enemies in the first dungeon were defeated with the action combat for me, each time I entered a new floor enemies were strong enough to not be killed on field, but a couple of battles later and they started to go down in the action combat and I wasn't even overleveled, I was on par with what the game asked of me Dungeons are also different, you have a much more aggressive approach, you don't have to hidr from enemies, there are much less puzzles to solve, it doesn't feel like a heist, it feels like a siege. Mementos are also substituted by a bunch of side dungeons that make the experience much more consistent, instead of a boring randomly generated dungeon you have multiple smaller dungeons with their own small puzzles and boss to fight at the end, it works quite well Say what you will, but this game isn't persona and it isn't SMT, it takes good aspects of both games to create something unique, yes it has their dna, but it's very much its own thing
i def think my persona 5 and 5 royal experiencers trumped metaphor. it got too grind-y at the end and the uninspired side dungeons lost the charm after the first few ones. randomly buffing the shit out of the difficulty despite me giving up and playing on storyteller was where i drew the line
I think the best way to describe metaphor is a more streamlined Atlus product. Like persona/SMT/EO it has its own world setting, but the core structure/gameplay loop is still the same old. People talk about the Medieval setting being a bonus, but in the larger context I found metaphor to be "tropey" and predictable. Imo the setting was all surface-level discussions on religion/segregation/power, and comparatively it oozes less style than persona. Still a decent Atlus game though
Yeah the dungeons are drab. I prefer them to personas palaces but only because the gameplay is better. I’d say generally the palaces outdo the dungeons in metaphor refantazio except they can be kinda frustrating. Both are frustrating and annoying especially in one in game day or in one sitting. I prefer the social links of metaphor. I’m so happy they did away with all the demon summoning. It was such an annoying grind rerumoining. Metaphor refantazio feels like a modern more grounded and better made persona like game in a fantasy setting. If he found metaphor boring which I agree even though I love it I can’t imagine what he thinks about just how boring p5 royal is.
@hyperplayrpg ok I'm past the 50 hour mark n it's not close to boring to me. I'm only at the ocean city after completing the first trial. I'm also love those times you get to chat up your companions more than combat. I'm enjoying all the interactions I'm seeing
Yeah I'm a bit under the weather but still managed to bash it out (as it were). That said a lot of people say they like my languid delivery and find it more relaxing than the more shouty UA-camrs. It is what it is! Thanks for watching.
Reskin is a very narrow way to define the game and never heard anybody complaining that fromsoft making the same game always before. Metaphore is a culmination of what Atlus did before not just persona but smt.
Here to admit I was wrong. This is not fantasy Persona n playing like fantasy Persona left me struggling hard with the game. It is it's own thing. I seen that when I restarted my game n started playing it as it's own game. I finished the first dungeon n I'm 20+ hours into my new play n it's really just starting to get really good for me now that I have more freedom n can chat folk up
My opinion Great combat system. Terrible plot. Initially strong writing that falls off a cliff halfway through. Boring Villain. Terrible graphics. Worst implementation of the Calendar system from the Persona games. Terrible dungeon design. Great Music.
@@Keihzaru I finished Metaphor recently and it's much much better than P5, in almost every aspect. That's just my opinion of course, i respect and understand yours😁
@@skyFxd No it is 't, it's worse on everything it does, even graphics. I do not understand your opinion really, weird that fanboys of mediocre offshoots or sequels always rely on attacking the thing their object of fanboyism owes it's existence to lmao
You should google her old design when the game had less Persona vibes and more Dragon Quest. She looked like this cool elf lady knight, it remains one of my favorite designs ever.

Surprising that the makers of Persona series can make a game so bland... The reviews are definitely in a honeymoon period right now.
calling a game made by atlus a "p5 reskin" is insane... a LOT of the systems/battle mechanics in p5 can be found in older atlas titles

@@fiaschampion3379 I get what you’re trying to say but you just named a bunch of games that released before Persona was even a relevant name.

I absolutely LOVE metaphor. I just dislike the remove of romance. Otherwise, peak
My biggest complaint with Metaphor is everything feels like "instead of". Like instead of what we did in Persona 5, we did this!
A great way of putting it!

I don't think it's boring tho. I do think Persona 5 is the better game early on tho
