I do like the old 10p coins. I have two in my collection that are errors, no milled edge and they clearly have been spent (VF), so no lines at the side and no rim, just flat. I used to spend these in the late 70's, you could get a bag of chips at the chippy (with scraps then of course) or a bag of mixed sweets then, try that today if you can! The Florin circulated in this era too (so I spent them) as a 10p, so it was re-tariffed from 2 old shillings to 10p (everything used to be done in 12s then, but from 1971 everything was done in 10s, the Florin remained in circulation until the early 1990s). The silver coins are great and they are my favourites, silver has performed very well over the years and the new green energy programs are on the horizon.

      Thank you for watching
Nice coins and I always like to hear about people spending the older coins

Nickel is currently over £15500 a ton and those copper-nickel coins have about 4.5p worth of nickel in them and that's not including the other 75% of the coin which is copper, it's only a matter of time until they are worth more than 10p as scrap value.

Great video. I think it is a shame to melt old silver coins as there is great value in the history.

The 1981 10p is very scarce, much more so than any price guide will tell you. Regularly see it sell for £15 on ebay and £50-80 in UNC

Just started a shilling collection. Bought a job lot of 1947-1966+70 English and Scottish shillings for £12.50. I also bought a nice 1906 shilling for £14!!! So yeah the cupronickel stuff is sadly pretty worthless feel a bit robbed at £12.50 to be honest. With my limited budget and I like to collect coins in fairly good condition the collection will keep me occupied for many years to come.

What happens when you scrap the silver coins, are they just melted ?

How can you talk about "melt weight" before you've compared the half Crowns for condition against your existing date run coins?

I keep them all in a box and every 6 months or so I compare them all against my date run

Don't they call that on approval, rather than on loan?
