Industry and commerce doesn't thrive in a country with a very small population thats why Botswana wants to make it easier for Zimbabweans so that they can stop depending with South Africa only
So, you want us to buy our own minerals? The department of minerals and energy can give license to the govt and mine for free. I stand with Masisi on this one, a foreigner entity cannot determine the right to land they do not own.

I agree, South Africa Madd the same mistakes and now realize that some agreements were really not mutually beneficial. Masisi was on the right track with the 50/50 deal. The diamonds are on Botswana's land and Botswana should have a fair stake, 15% is not fair at all. They need to review the agreement not buy shares from the existing the agreement.
@@David-u6x4fBotswana owns 15% of shares in De beers the company that has mining rights in Namibia, South Africa, Canada, Russia, Angola etc. I think you are confusing 15% with thinking De beers and Botswana diamonds partnership in respect of Botswana wholly which is a 50%-50% joint venture. Then there is the mined diamonds shareholding.
Colonialism at work, he can’t even himself explain why Botswana owns only 15% of her resources while a colonial company Anglo America still own 85% diamond mining rights. Well Botswana could get other competitive companies to bid for rights to mine but nope Anglo America will never leave till diamonds are depleted unless Botswana wanna become another collateral damage like Congo. Check who is the largest exporter of diamonds in the world but doesn’t have a diamond mine. Africa is still colonized.
While at it... kindly note that there is De Beers and Debswana. Both different entities though one but different arrangements. e. g Botswana owns 15 percent of De Beers(shareholding structure) which operates beyond the Botswana boarders. Concerning Debswana which primarily operates in Botswana, the joint company btwn the Botswana gov and De Beers, its a partnership that entails mining rights for Orapa and Jwaneng deposits not the entire mineral/diamond deposits in BW. On this clip the bulk of the interview is on the efforts to increase the stake in the De Beers entity(which has been flaunted on the market for a while now) and ultimatetly roundoff the pending 'Debswana' negotiations but this time around with more bargaining power. Let it be far from you to think that His Excellency is intellect-bound by colonialism or its cousins. He has on numerous occasions publicly denounced those. He is not feeble minded like you said on your first sentence.
