      After playing the demo a bit (specifically in handheld) I found out that in order to turn left and right you have to rotate the switch like a steering wheel instead of tilting it the intuitive way

      @@squiddler7731 Use the right stick for broad movements and the gyro for smaller, finer movements when aiming. Don't bother trying to turn around with the Gyro alone, you won't have a good time. You can also adjust the Gyro sensitivity if you like.

      We don't all main the same weapons. But yeah, watching that as a Bow main was kinda painful. But then I'm probably worse with any blademaster weapon besides the IG.

      @@Omegaghostpanda he wasn't really playing it wrong, per se. It's just that aiming can take a while to get used to, and he missed a lot of shots with coatings on, which is double wasteful. Also he's playing the bow as classic MH, charging it full before release. I'm not sure which is more optimal in Rise since they changed it again, but in World the go-to move is to tap the fire button to increase the charge since it's quicker, plus you get bonus damage on the first hits before going to power shot. It seems in Rise they minimized punishment when holding the fire button, but I think you still get more damage tapping it. We'll know once we get to test elemental bows in the full game.

    A huge but subtle change I noticed in the video is that you can now scroll to a different kind of coating without the last one getting auto-removed the moment you scroll, so you can queue the coatings up much easier (eg: getting a para and instantly switching to sleep without having to scroll to it to get both statuses back to back without the monster having time to break free)! Also nice to see is the return of infinite Close-Range Coatings so that you don't lose a ton of damage on longer quests after you run out of Power Coatings!

      i understand infinite is nice, however if world taught anything its that close range coating is kind of trash, youre better off restocking more power coating; and yes in the demo i went in the tent restocking mid mission is going to be a thing, as well as, eating mid mission

      @@thunderborn3231 That's the thing, I HATE "restocking" from 5th Gen, it completely goes against what the series has been about, hunting, preparing meticulously for a hunt BEFORE the hunt, then making do with what you have at hand! When you let people have 20+ ancient potions then give them the ability to restock whenever for another 20 for example is just dumb and only gives them the excuse to make monsters hit so hard they nearly one-shot you with chip damage. As for the coating though, CL=20%, Power=50%, CL is better than nothing and helps tons if you can almost finish a hunt with just Power saving you the trouble of restocking.

      @@tho_tho it may be 20% but it does shorten your critical shot range and without mindeye/ballistics early on im just not a fan, though meme close range melee speedruns are already popping up; lookin at you team darkside, lastly you may feel restocking is cheap, but nothing NOTHING is cheaper than that damn clutch claw flinch shooting. anything short of an alatreon it takes the fight out of the hunt

      @@thunderborn3231 CL just need you to be close so big whoop about critical distance, you are always in it. But I do agree about the Clutch Claw, it's more braindead and cheesy than even mount spamming! On top of that, because you could "soften" parts, it gave them an excuse to give nearly all new monsters shitzones to "encourage" you to use it.

      Same as I just love the idea of it like your just not wisshing to spend the stamina on a say gagrass because it want your toes. Plus both bowguns have a mele of some sort. And now ze bow kept it's one.

      @@tzera_rhuon but now it have a excape move to do that, the backflip. shure the spread had use but its only you who is losing somthing for the bow had the melee in the moble series world just kind of droped it into just a stomp attack. tbh its kind of matching the pattern for both bowguns have a melee strick and the bow had a extra step for its attack in world. but now we have better use of mounts so you know we gain as we lose.

    One thing I love about the bow (and the other Gunner weapons) is how the reticle lets you know whether you're in or out of range for dealing the most damage possible, not sure if it was already in World but as a player coming from the classic Monster Hunter games, it's a very welcome change.

    One thing that excites me is how the melee from the bow uses the coating applied without consuming it, meaning if you keep at least one of each type you can still have all of them through the melee

    I hope there will be some arc shots that rain attacks on the enemy instead of buffing. Applying status, deliver KO damage to the head or simply attacking with it shouldn't be underestimated.
    Also, in GU the bow is a beast to mount monsters with as long as you have a ledge to jump off of. Since you're recoiled back on the ledge when firing in the air, you can just repeat the air shot instantaneously. I could easily mount several times a hunt as long as there were something that made your hunter jump.

      So I wasn't the only one who discovered the infinite ledge-shot? Plus people ripped on Aerial Bow in GU as being useless, but it was a really fun style to play with. Absolutely monstrous for mounts.

      @@chromagna9755 : I vaguely recall Aerial Bow being laughed at for having the slowest speed-runs of any weapon / style combo besides Prowler. Still, I've played it and it is very satisfying, though so are Aerial LBG and Aerial HBG. Not efficient, but definitely awesome.

    Dabbled in bow late game in Iceborne. It was great until Iearned you really have to optimize it. I was stuck in silver Rathalos armor for months and then KT came and I just didn't feel like re-farming bows

      Yeah I used bow for the endgame of base MHW, but barely touched it in Iceborne for the same reason as you. Just got tired of Silverlos armor, plus having to re-farm every bow for Xeno'jiiva and then Kulve like a month later (on PC).

      Same here. I mained bow in vanilla MHW but switched to hammer in Iceborne. The thought of being locked to a few sets/skills (as usual) and having to farm so much for each element again was enough to make me hang the bow up haha! That’s the biggest drawback with bow IMO. It requires a lot of optimization before it really shines and you’ll have to repeat it multiple times for each element. Other weapons seem to have more freedom with sets and skills and can be effective even with just a few basic skills.

    I'M SO EXCITED! It looks like Arrow Types are back! For those who aren't familiar with it, it basically means each charge level does a different type of shot. For example, the level 1 charge could be Rapid (3 arrows), level 2 charge is Pierce (one piercing arrow) and level 3 is Rapid again. Each level makes it do more damage, but you might use a different charge for a different arrow type aka Pierce for Mizu or longer monsters

    Best tip for gyro controls.
    Don't use it for big moves. Use it for the small adjusts it lets you do and it'll up your accuracy with the stick camera IMMENSELY
    (At least that's how I use it)

    Well this new mounting system looks like the definitive version to me. Using one monster to attack another seems more logical than hopping on, doing a few stabs and somehow making it topple. I don't get why people are complaining about it looking like "magic"... I mean the bug itself kinda is cuz how is a tiny bug carring an adult person? but this specific aplication makes total sense so I'm calling it a different thing . Also I like the fact that you can't do it as often as in previous games, makes it more valuable and something to look forward to

    the mount system has the potential to give us an Asymmetric pvp mod (1 rider/poacher vs 4 hunters) and with some of the gene mechanics from stories(for Tier2 monsters) + even some crafting(for Tier 1) to change hit zone values, add effects to attacks and so on. This will give a really nice end game activity, early game monster will have the potential to be meaningful and challenging at the end game
    rendering every single monster as a Tier 3 due to the amount of customization it can be subject to (the weaker the monster is the more you can customize and buff it) and again a functional PvP mod that actually makes sense for the world of monster hunter
    dont really expect to see this in rise but in world 2 there is potential

    I played whole MH World on PC with gyro on L2 button on ds4 via steam settings and it is awesome,
    so yeah, it's really good to see this option on switch)

    Oof tbh world bow is really weird to me. I’m used to just charging my bow, dodging attacks, and unleashing arrows when able, but new bow always felt difficult to tell what charge level you were at.

      I don't understand how it's harder to tell the charge levels. Wasn't the GU sign for a charge level much more subtle? In world it's pretty obvious but I'm not a bow main, I've just fiddled around with it. If any bow main wants to come school me, feel free lol.

    Its wild that despite the dualshock4 supporting gyro, and uses it all the time for VR, no games utilize it for aiming... It takes sending the game to Switch to realize how useful it is thanks to Splatoon.
    I used gyro on MHW thanks to Steam Input and its a massive improvement over stick aiming

    One thing I honestly can't find anywhere is someone discussing changes to weapons in rise coming from GU. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a fairly large population of players coming straight from gu.

    1:50 I was fighting Mizutsune in 13 and did the backflip. He knocked me out of the air and I fell all the way down the mountain. Then I climbed back up and he knocked me down again LOL

    I do love the bow :D I really have to get used to the arrows having a way slower (be it more realistic) traveling time than in World, and I didn't even realize the X Silkbind had i-Frames, but I do love it. I am also so glad we got Gyro Aiming. Through Steam, I implemented it into World by myself, and I am glad that I not only won't miss it in Rise, but have it actually built in the game itself!

    Hey Gaijin, one thing i realize you didnt mention is that now each bow charge level have different attributes like in the previous games pre world, if you try again the bow in the demo has a pierce lv2 charge and its very noticeable when you fight Mizutsune and shoot at it rapidly while its facing you

    I'm very excited about changes to the bow in Rise. Very glad they kept similar World mechanics and improved the arc shot so I can support my friends instead of flinching them. In the demo alone I've done over 50 hunts and each time my friends love the healing buff, so I'm happy to see the other possible buffs! Hoping for a stamina and attack buff, and maybe an elemental one that deals damage to the monster? Guess we'll see : )

    One thing I noticed that doesn't have to do with bow at all, but gathering/carving sometimes makes you ride the palamute instead of carving. It's not that big of a deal since you can carve while riding, but still...

    Mr. Gaijin Hunter, I know you're not a big fan of motion controls, but there are alot of Splatoon and Splatoon 2 players that are also huge fans of the monster hunter series, that use motion controls, and only prefer it. Many of us are excited to try the ranged weapons because of it. Love your videos. 😊

    I'm wondering why no one talks about that shot type per charge level is back again. I noticed that charge level 1 of the bow we are using in the demo fires piercing arrows. While charge level 0 and 2 fires rapid type arrows. I'm stoked to see that return because even though I hunted a lot with the bow in MHW I couldn't shake off the feeling that bows lost a lot of depth without the different shot types.
    It looks like, to me, that bows in MHRise places itself in the middle of classic and MHW playstyle.
    I'm optimistic about that and my best guess will be that I'll be maining the bow first and foremost when the game releases.

    Instead of using gyro you can buy this usb thing from gamestop or Amazon that lets you use a ps4 controller so you don't have to use the pos joysticks on pro controller or joycons, the switch up cost $30 rather than $20 but allows ps4/5 controller during handheld mode or on switch light, I've been playing this demo and gu with it and it works great no input delay

    11:30 I like the monster riding a lot. And what I like most about it is that you pretty much can only do it once per fight, so you cant just cheese fights like with clutch claw.

    My biggest issue with the new mount system is
    do your teammates hitting the monster while you're riding it hamper, or help?
    That was a huge issue my group had in MHW was, you'd get on the monster, and someone would be doing a big attack, and then the monster would flinch, and you would just lose the mount.
    I think it was one of the earlier games (generations?) where allies actually contributed to the mount if they hit the monster while you were on it, I really hope they at least prevent it from being a hindrance to your team... otherwise i don't see puppet mode being that useful, especially because.. now you've brought in another big monster, and the damage you delt doesn't really feel like it was worth the extra hassle of dealing with 2 monsters at once now

    They changed the barrage move (when you charge your arrow and press A), instead of doing a shitty aoe now it creates a healing zone which put a heal over time buff on allies who go through it, I tried it on multiplayer and its kinda awesome to be able to heal teamates on demand

      I felt the same. It feels like the arrows take forever to reach their target. The damage numbers also felt low, but Bow has always been a very skill-heavy weapon; once we get Bow Charge Up and the like the numbers may feel better.

    It's worth noting that, while you are mounting arzuros, his strong attack can be chained. If you miss the first hit, keep hitting that strong attack button, and he will keep attacking.

    If you jump off the palamute and do the melee attack when dismounting you can get a charge and can dance off of it.

      @derp derpin i dont knkw how you can feel like this. If you just use it for some time it is 1000x better than the dual stick scheme. its the closest to mouse pointing on console without using something like the wii remote.

      so far I'm getting used to the bow in GU but I've only just fought tetsucabra. unless the monster is immobilised, I don't bother trying to aim, I just charge a shot, point my character at the monster and release and move.

      @derp derpin thumb stick is honestly probably the most you could gimp yourself in aiming games besides a d-pad. Obviously mouse is the best way to aim. But gyro when implemented well has so much more range of motion. If pvp games had responsive gyro and joystick options I believe a skilled gyro player would win over an equally skilled thumbstick player.       Not saying you have to love gyro aiming. if you would rather stick to joysticks. That's fine. It takes time to get used to and its not a comfortable way to play for everyone.

    Somebody may have said something, or you may have found it out by now, but in these videos I noticed that you weren't using the Arzuros strong attack very effectively. I noticed you can mash the A button to do his powerful swipes up to 3 times before doing an emergency evade to get another attack in quicker than letting the animations stop.

    Just as a tip you dont HAVE to do aerial attacks to activate the wyvern riding. Silkbind moves also do it.

    I'm kinda glad that they tweaked the Arzuros so that you actually feel like it's a terrifying giant blue bear charging at you at full power, rather than one that would hit about as hard as its plushy version.
    Made no sense for it to be both slow as molasses AND hit like a wet noodle like in previous games. Still a pretty easy fight overall, but now you actually have to respect its range, haha!

    Isn't the classic bow style back??
    I though it went rapid lvl2, pierce lvl2 and rapid lvl3.
    I'm not sure about the lvls but the charge 2 shot is a single arrow that pierces! So I really hope we have that mechanic back :D thx for the video!

    I started playing the Bow a lot with MHW but I feel like with all the trigger combos you need for the bow you can trip over your own fingers so much and it takes time to get used to. Also regular dodge is B but wirebug dodge is R+X...

    I kind of wish we had both generations mounting and Rises new system, I love both but the new system is far better for my friends coming to the series.

      That's just inefficient tbh. It's better that they stuck to the improved version they worked hard on. It's easy to mount and GU's mounting doesn't compare. Do you say that just because you're more used to it and prefer it?

      @@gothxm Having played more since my comment I realised all aerial damaged is treated as adding to the chance of a mountable state not just wirebug moves. So as much as I miss stabbing the hell out of a monster whilst clinging on, the abiliy to simply crash it straight into the wall is great for a quicker hunt.
      So the rise system has grown on me.

Just got GU and it's so hard to play my go to weapons because they don't have what I like about them in GU.

      @@JasonSilverain like just imagining Brave Longsword with sheathing attacks from world and stuff like that the spirit thrust, foresight slash and spirit helm breaker is enough to make me main something else like greatsword since I didn't try it until recently in world. Didn't feel like Ive lost anything.

    As a bow main in world, having a melee attack where the button for power/spread was in World is going to mess me up...
    but I think once I'm used to it, I'll still enjoy bow in Rise... I suppose it depends on if we go back to having different shot types and how much Arc shot ends up mattering.
    I think I'll be playing it less than in World. The changes to the other weapons make them more interesting, and bow is looking a little more lackluster by comparison to me.

    I am in love with this game already and we only got the demo this game is amazing!! I was hooked the moment I started playing the demo.. too bad its not play as much as you want until the game comes out but only thirty play throughs. Don't know why they do the whole limit play thing with demos, its not like we can do much other than what they have given us

    I had to reverse my controls to make bow work with my muscle memory. It's very hard to unlearn adept style and incorporate wire bug style. But it's fun.

    The mounting is a real great change compared to Worlds Clutch Claw Spam, even though it doesn't seem that good with just a single Monster.
    Still I'm looking foraward on chaining mounts on 2 or 3 different Monsters a go ham :D
    As a little side note, who thinks that there will be some kind of special event quest, where you permanently control a goldcrown Monster and fight another gold crown Kaiju style?

    I'm so shocked to say this but why is melee bow shockingly good? It works with close range coating and power coating(don't know about the others), Herculean Draw boosts it and I was hitting upwards of 54 damage to Mizu in the head with no sharpness to worry about, it's fast, you can dodge out and fire at range whenever you want and you have a free heal that is very strong in the demo. Hunting Horn was the other weapon that made Mizu feel super easy for me but Bow was about the same, I barely even got touched with how mobile it is and the fact you can just go ranged during phases where you can't get in and I actually got so many KOs and cut it's tail off with the greatest of ease. I thought it was a meme when I saw a video on it but low key, melee bow is a thing you can totally do effectively lol.

    I used bow a lot in MHW and of the 5 weapon types I tried in the demo this one threw me for a loop the most. Gonna take some time to get used to the changes.

      My last monster hunter game was GU where I mained the bow (valor style ofc). About a week ago I saw Arekkz' World tutorial on the bow, and in the MHR demo I have primarily played around with the bow. Do you mind sharing what changes you feel with the weapon, aside from the change to arc shots of course?

    the hbg counter counts as mounting damage. from what i remember they said silkbind move damage would trigger wyvrrn riding. so far both sb moves for the bow do nothing for this as far as i know. we'll see with the future sb moves

    I'm guessing since they went with the world redesign for the Bow that pierce bows are still no longer a thing as it's specifically tied to dragon piercer. I miss having different bow types and pierce bow was my favorite. Big sed.

    Indeed, while gyroscopic motion control is amazing to have, having it active _all the time_ (such as with Mario Kart Wii or 8) is literally, physically exhausting. It is usually much more convenient for a game to have a specific "aiming mode" with motion controls enabled (Breath of the Wild, Star Fox Zero, etc.).

    bomb damage still ticks a lot slower so its probably better to explode the bomb without hitting the monster. (except GS charge ofc its heavier and probably other heavy weps) tho i did not notice any x2 damage input.

    I don't get why Capcom made the gyro controls inverted from the R Stick camera control setting. I like inverted vertical (forward looks down) but then the gyro goes up if inclined forward, and vice-versa. They need to put an option for inverting control for the gyro only.

    The ZR and ZL controlls are the worst thing when you play with the joycons. And i would love that the the mh rise bow were more like old gen charging gameplay i just miss this gameplay

    Man, since I haven't played bow that much in World, I kinda had to do the transition from Generation Ultimate to Rise... And I went against Mizutsune XD. It was horrible and considering I was streaming in the mean time, makes my gameplay only worse >

      good question , need to take the demo again but, if you want to be sure, check the amount of damage . If the numbers are in a blue background, it counts ;)

    Nice video! One question though, I played the demo and is this because of the rapid fire type or does that bow "feel" kind of iffy. I mean the hitting feedback doesn't feel the same as in mh xx, freedom unite and tri (those I played)

    I've found that if you take the time to collect the spirit birds for stamina, bow isnt as bad as bow users make it seem. I recently started bow in mhgu but I always run mega dash juice. For some reason this bow destroys stamina, so I'm looking forward to when I can use those in the real game

    I also had some barrels out during the izuchi fight, and they wouldn't blow up when the monster hit them, ended up having to time it with barrell bombs.

    I actually was kind of unimpressed with bow. I wish it had something like lbg where I could vault the monster. I'm sure this game will have more moves on launch though.

    I have a BIG problem with the bow using type 2 weapon controls: I feel much better using type 2 with bowguns since they're more similar to previous mh controls BUT the bow type 2 Is so messed up with aiming with R, firing with X and not being able to actually move the right stick to aim... The controls in generations were just fine, while these don't make much sense... I hope they fix them somehow because I love type 2 for all the other weapons.
