    Great tips thanks! You can save glue by feeding the next stick in as the current one is beyond the scope of the trigger. Instead of using a rod or similar just push the next stick in with gentle pressure until the trigger picks it up. Good work!

    I've watched many of your reviews and I really appreciate them :) Do you have a video explaining the purpose of different nozzles and if they are even worth it.

    • @MakerBrain
      @MakerBrain  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi, Sandra
      I personally have never used different kinds of interchangeable glue gun nozzles. However, I can say that newer glue guns tend to come with better nozzles that drip less. For example, the gorilla hot glue gun has a check valve in the nozzle which helps prevent it from dripping very much... It still drips a little bit but it is a lot slower than my older, cheaper glue guns.
      When it comes to specialty nozzles (like those long thin ones or nozzles with different hole Diameters) I cannot give you any specific details. I would assume that if you got a nozzle with a smaller hole you would be able to do finer, more detailed work and if the nozzle was longer you would be able to get into tighter spaces. But if you have a smaller hole, you won't be able to put out as much volume of glue at once. So nozzles with larger holes are going to be better if you glue large surfaces together.
      I had another subscriber share a bunch of information with me about glue gun nozzles so I hope to make a video on the topic soon. (But with all the recording and editing involved soon could meet a couple of months 😅).
      I hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions!
      Have a blessed day,
      - Eli

    Thank you for the tips. I'm using hot glue to make cylinders of cardboard to give my camera lens pouches a rigid structure so they don't collapse when I put my lenses into them in my camera bag (they're floppy otherwise and the slows me down when I need to change lenses). To anyone doing something similar, I recommend making numerous frequent folds in the cardboard before you glue it so it forms a rounder curve when glued together.

    I think maybe a clothing iiron could be used to remelt the hot glue between the 2 piece of cardboard? Maybe somehow using aluminium foil in the process?

    • @MakerBrain
      @MakerBrain  10 місяців тому

      That is a great idea!, T-quare. Especially because when people try to glue to large surfaces of cardboard together, sometimes the hot glue cools down before they can stick the pieces together. If you use a clothing iron on one side, you could possibly get the cardboard hot enough to reconnect the pieces. Hopefully you wouldn't burn the cardboard in the process 😅.
      I have done a similar thing with a heat gun, but never thought to use a clothing iron.

      Hi there,
      If your glue gun has a high setting that will help the glue stay melted longer. You could also try gluing smaller parts at a time and making bugger beads of glue. When you put out more glue in one place it takes longer to cool.

    Put a paper bag over the dried give and run over the bag with a het iron. Will melt the glue and it will stick to the bag. Also, you can use a lighter to re-melt dried glue to smooth and finish the bead or to adjust items you're glueing - a torch lighter works great and of course high & low heat flames will work as they usually would. LMK if you'd be interested in seeing a video for this and I'll send you one❤

    As my glue gun has to settings to low and height temp but I suppose it is high temp it self, there is too much glue dripping from it, sometimes it won’t let me to glue small things with out getting extra glue drips. For my experience I used to lay the hot glue gun to a silicone surface and then the the huge drips dry, I put them in the glue gun passage so no glue gets wasted.
    But I suppose I should consider buying hot temp glue sticks so it would be less fuss.

    • @MakerBrain
      @MakerBrain  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for commenting, Asiya. High temp sticks would probably help you with the dripping problem, but I like how you let them dry on a silicone mat and then are able to put them back into the glue gun... That is genius.

    So to glue foam board, could you use the low temp to create a base on both pieces you want to connect, let it cool, then use the high temp on top of those bases to connect the pieces? Because of the low cost and versatility, I have tried to use hot glue with cardboard and foam board a few times for crafts (mostly diy storage and cat furniture). But, I have trouble getting the pieces to stay together for more than a few hours or days. Low temp glue sticks definitely don't work. High temp sticks surprisingly don't work either (now I understand why - thanks to you). Regular glue takes forever to dry. That's how I found your channel. 🙂 I'm trying to figure out what brand of hot glue works for cardboard and foam board and how to make it work.
    Also, great video! I subscribed to your channel because this was very useful information.

    • @MakerBrain
      @MakerBrain  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much for subscribing! I really appreciate the support!
      I'm not sure if changing the brand of glue stick will make a big difference in whether or not it sticks to the foam board. However, you could try your idea and it might work, or you could try using toothpicks or something that insert into the foam board to help it stick into the cardboard better. What I mean is that you would use toothpicks to poke through the cardboard and into the foam board to create a stronger connection. You might even be able to coat the toothpicks in glue. You could also try changing the surface of the foam board by sanding it or poking holes in it to give the hot glue more grip. You could also attempt to cut the edges of the cardboard and the foam board so that they fit together like puzzle pieces. That way when you glue them together the glue does not have to hold up all of the strain because the two pieces are physically interlocked. These are just some ideas and I hope they help!

      @@MakerBrain You are seriously a genius! I hope you plan on having an engineering career someday. I would never have thought of using something like toothpicks to reinforce the card/foam board. I'll definitely have to try this next time I put something together. It makes sense, too, considering people use dowels to reinforce wood connections.
      I like the idea about lightly sanding the surface as well. Doing that to wood helps paint stick to it better, so doing this with cardboard should, theoretically, make the adhesive stick better as well. The puzzle piece idea is interesting...never would have thought of that either. It sounds like a lot of extra work , though, but I may try this on a small, future project to see how it turns out.

    I have a problem getting a consistent line and not bumps in my line

    • @MakerBrain
      @MakerBrain  2 роки тому

      Thanks for communicating, Kathi. I have a cope suggestions, but nothing is a replacement for practice and experience. Honestly, I struggle with this sometimes as well. I recommend making sure that the glue gun is heated all of the way up so that the glue comes out smoothly. I also like the trigger on the Gorilla hot glue gun because it is nice and big and makes it easy to pull in a smooth motion. You could try resting the tip of the glue gun on the cardboard as you make the line of glue so that it is more stable. If you pull the trigger really hard and get a lot of glue to come out fast it will be harder to make a strength line. Lastly, make sure that you are not running the tip of the glue gun through the glue that you are laying down. That means that you need to pull rather than push the glue gun when doing flat surfaces and if you are doing a corner (like a T joint) you can push the glue gun forward but you can't squeeze out very much glue as you go along.
      I hope this helps!
