    Nice video. How about do-it-yourself concrete stamping in small areas. I want to put an above ground pool in. Then on the side I want to have some concrete surrounding the pool. I can't afford to hire and make this a big production. So I figured I'd pour the concrete is small areas as I worked around the pool. It'd be great if you did a video on something like that

    I was pouring a small slab yesterday when i got into a fight with heat exhaustion, and could not finish. I now have a pretty rough 3/4 of a slab and the last 4'x8' looking decent. Any insider tricks on how i may be able to repair the initial pour?

      Tear it out and start over. Hire someone capable of completing the job next time. It's cheaper in the long run.

    I am wondering why spacers (e.g. broken bits of concrete paver) weren't used under the rebar to centralise it before the concrete pour? Lifting the rebar mesh occasionally during the pour is not ideal.

    • @oceaniaoasis8569
      @oceaniaoasis8569 2 роки тому +3

      In Australia we use things called chairs and they sit under the rebar and lift it so it’s about half way in the concrete I’m not sure why Americans do this though it makes no sense

      It should be in the upper third to resist tension.
      It won't do much in the middle.

    Approximately how many bags of concrete was used for this slab?

    • @BerndtTost
      @BerndtTost 2 роки тому +2

      No Bags. Concrete was supplied by a concrete agitator truck. You can see the chute from the agitator at 2m:25s

    Why didn't you elevate the rebar? And you should have used wire mess. However, it looked like the thickness of you pad was less than five inches. So in that case no rebar is needed.

    • @MarshalltownCompany
      @MarshalltownCompany  4 роки тому +9

      We show the rebar getting pulled up into the concrete at 2:50 in the video.

    • @paulgalbraith7109
      @paulgalbraith7109 4 роки тому +4

      You don't pull up on rebar. Rebar needs to be in a fix position. Try using chairs. Again, your forms were less than 6 inches, reinforcement is not needed.

    • @cheshstyles
      @cheshstyles 4 роки тому +7

      @@paulgalbraith7109 you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. Pulling the steel up as you go works just fine. Putting steel in 4" thick concrete prevents differential movement at the control joint.

      I vote rebar! Not everyone is a bare minimum code kinda guy

    • @ardalla535
      @ardalla535 3 роки тому +3

      I'm pouring four sections of 4x4 slabs in front of my shed. Technically I don't need rebar because it's only four 4" thick sections. But I have a lawn tractor and a motorcycle that are moving in and out of the shed on a regular basis. I figure wire mesh is easy to install so why not. Rebar? I don't have a truck to haul the rebar from Lowes and I don't want to pay them to deliver such a small amount, AND I would need a special, expensive bolt cutter or angle grinder to deal with it.

    • @spelunkerd

      That 345 rule is a classic and it serves well. If you're sure the four board lengths are correct (width of the form equal on both sides, length of the form equal on both sides) then the easy way to check for square is to measure diagonally from both corners and make sure the number is identical. No math. If one length is too long, tap it over with a hammer and measure both lengths again.

    • @aaronkessler7773
      @aaronkessler7773 3 роки тому +2

      A2 + B2 = C2 (squared)
      6' 8' 10' at that distance
      3 4 5 for shorter
