I moved to Miami a month before Wilma. Rode it out. It resembled a war zone afterward. Packed up the car and we all went to Disney World for two weeks while everyone else stayed in Miami in the sweltering heat with no electricity. We had a blast!
I can't help but marvel at these forces of nature. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts. Makes me wonder if it's the Planets way of telling us it's still in charge. After all we do to destroy it it's a wonder we don't get more cataclysmic events.
I was 12 when this hurricane hit, i live in fort Lauderdale just 45 minutes north of Miami. I remember all our windows busting in so we had to hide in the bathroom with a flashlight the remainder of the storm. After the hurricane I remember it looking like a war zone, cars were flipped, trees were uprooted, sewage pipes were broken, power lines were on the ground, and glass was everywhere. We had no power for a month and school wasn't up and running till 6 weeks after. We lived off spam and canned goods since all the lights were out and theifs were looting and breaking into homes. It was a scary time to be living in South Florida but we have been fortunate to not have a major Hurricane hit us 10 years.
Joshua & Jayden There's 3 types of tropical cyclones, (scientific term) they are known as hurricanes, typhoons, and cyclones. A supercell isn't a god damn tropical cyclone. Also, for additional information it is decided what the tropical cyclone is classified as depending on it's location which as I recall Chicago is in North America so what you guys get is still hurricanes.
I rode out the first half of this hurricane sitting on my 5th floor balcony. It was awsome! You can really feel the power of nature. After the eye passed, the winds came from the opposite direction so I had to retreat inside and close the hurricane shutters. I couldn't see out but the noise was tremendous. I will never forget the experience of Hurricane Wilma.
This was probably one of the worst storms I ever witnessed as a child growing up in southwest Florida , I vividly remember our house windows rattling like no other & being terrified! The 2005 hurricane season was horrible for Miami. We got hit on August 26 by Katrina and then in October it was Wilma. So much damage happened to my city. It was such a horrible few months. Some people were so supportive and helped clean and find people mixed with all the debris and then there were people who were stealing anything they could from people. I don't understand how you could do something like that. People would just go inside others houses and rob them. Truly saddening.
Matthew missed us here in South Florida. But, I remember Wilma and losing power for a few weeks and being able to look up at the stars with the neighbors.
I was staying with my mom in Fort Lauderdale when this hit. I remember looking out the windows seeing the trees bend, I was real scared, but then it happened! I looked out the window one more time and seen a man's staring at me in scuba diving gear! He wasn't doing anything just standing there. He was there for about 20 minutes and then left. Freaked out!.
Man you are a G for staying in your vehicle to give us this amazing footage. How is it that your car isn't moving and other large cars like a limo are flipped upside down?
I would say the 2020 Hurricane Season succeeded in breaking a lot of those records but fell short of a lot of others , I remember Wilma, I went through it, really violent wind
I lived in palm beach county for about 6 months out of 2014 (Lake worth & Boynton Beach) and luckily I didn’t experience any hurricanes BUT… just their basic summer time thunderstorms is enough to trip me out. Being born and raised in Ohio my whole life, I wasn’t prepared for the kind of storms y’all get down there. Just a normal thunderstorm causes apartment buildings to vibrate and rattle and at times sound like the windows are gonna bust out or something. Just an eerie feel. I couldn’t imagine a tropical storm or hurricane. Y’all’s day time storms were enough for me!
I lived in Miami Beach. Had moved there the April of that year. Got Katrina as my first hurricane, which did nothing in Miami, so I was unimpressed. When Wilma came along, we were told it was a Cat 2. Based on what I knew about Katrina as a Cat 1, I decided to stay. I lived 2 blocks from the beach, and about half way through, I thought, "Boy, staying may not have been the best decision." Made it through, deciding that if any Cat 3 came along, I was leaving. Later the news told us that Wilma was a 3, but people still argue to this day if it was a 2 or 3. Destruction was pretty wide spread, but the one good thing I remember is that even though we were without power for a week, it was a week of NO HUMIDITY, and was actually kind of nice - except for the people obsessed with blaring their horns at the intersection right outside my building - for that entire week. There were fights at gas stations, people on the radio calling in mere hours after it was over, demanding to know where help was for them, (because people did nothing to help themselves beforehand by preparing), long lines at ice/water pick ups (because people did nothing to help themselves by preparing beforehand) lines at the grocery store, cash only, and only a few people in at a time, etc. Also, our boss really showed he actually cared about each and every single person who worked for him. I'll never forget his generosity to every last one of us.
Yep so true lived in Pompano Beach; reason that storm didn't linger around was cause a Cold Front picked her up and we got our first taste of fall. We went 27 days no power with three kids under 10. That was pure hell.
I remember this hurricane right after Katrina way in November the year we had at least 50 hurricanes come thru but Wilma was the last n the worst right after the temperature dropped n no lights for a month I never felt so savage in my life I couldn't believe Katrina did that Louisiana, it hit us and no lights for a week but boy I felt sorry for new Orleans
yeah, 2005 was a record season. I lived in Mobile, AL at the time right on the Gulf Coast. Everybody was on edge that entire season. The surge from Katrina came within 8 feet of my bedroom window. Yeah, we were without power for 11 days after Katrina...and no generator lol It was surreal listening to the radio about everything going on in New Orleans, which was about 2 hours away.

According to my calculation the wind is coming at 3:00 knots above you so it's gonna make like a tornado win to you hold Miami so just you know just say just a specific according to what I saw and especialist for discussing
Why Hurricane Wilma is so strong: Hurricane Wilma was the most intense tropical cyclone ever recorded in the Atlantic basin, and the second-most intense tropical cyclone recorded in the Western Hemisphere, after Hurricane Patricia in 2015. Part of the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, which included three of the ten most intense Atlantic hurricanes ever (along with #4 Rita and #7 Katrina), Wilma was the twenty-second storm, thirteenth hurricane, sixth major hurricane, fourth Category 5 hurricane, and the second-most destructive hurricane of the 2005 season. A tropical depression formed in the Caribbean Sea near Jamaica on October 15, headed westward, and intensified into a tropical storm two days later, which abruptly turned southward and was named Wilma. Wilma continued to strengthen, and eventually became a hurricane on October 18. Shortly thereafter, explosive intensification occurred, and in only 24 hours, Wilma became a Category 5 hurricane with wind speeds of 185 mph (298 km/h).
I could remember this was my first storm chasing video to watch back in 2014 and was recommended on UA-cam and have been a subscriber since 2014. And I still come back to watch Mike Theiss old storm chasing video even hurricane Igor.

Frances, Jeane, and Wilma. All direct hits over my house in Stuart, FL about 1.5-2 hrs north of hear. Our house took all three like a champ! Cleanup was long and hard work though. I was 8 and 9 for those three and the best part was getting out of school. Every so often we still find roof shingles in the woods behind our house, even today.
Never forgot in West Palm on my 12th birthday, Dad bought me a prepaid flip phone 2 days before. No power for almost a month, but had a great birthday skating and popping ollies over the trees in the road. Thank god it was in October and not August.
I was there in Miami for Wilma after surviving Katrina in New Orleans the two worst hurricanes of my lifetime so far I have to say I’m very impressed with your videos man probably some of the best I’ve seen
Wow! I was in this. I lived in Miami Beach at Abbott and Indian Creek Dr. I was in a 2 story apt building that had a larger building shielding it from the east side, which definitely saved us a lot of damage. We still got damage, but nothing like what you filmed just a block away. My friend in another state had been watching it and was telling me later about all the flipped cars and asking if I knew this color building or that. I never did see it on tv because we had no power for 2 weeks. By the time I got power again, no one was talking about it anymore, no pictures anymore...and it was getting back to work after a week off. (We had a very good boss.) It just never ocurred to me to even look until today when I was looking up another hurricane. I got curious...but I remember Wilma well. I was not there for Andrew, so Wilma was the first one out of all the hurricanes I had been in that scared me and made me ask why tf I decided to stay. Someone in comments said it was a Cat 1....not it wasn't. It was a Cat 2-3 when it hit us in Miami and Miami Beach.
you're not even allowed to be riding on the road while there's a hurricane is supposed to be in the house usually if I cop catches you on the road you can get arrested
+Jordan Phillps I'm talking about if you're out there when everybody supposed to be inside there house before it starts duh or while getting ready to start they Patrol the area to see if anybody still outside while it's getting ready to start and if you are they'll start to yell at you and you can get in trouble
as a kid it was fun and shitty at the same time I lived in apts at this time and it had everyone outside.. in the daytime.. night time we play man hunt it was so dark it was pitch black but fun
Congratulations, congratulations, already vi this video one 20 times, very good work, I have seen others that vc made with much would cry out and without the brightness that this has. Good professionalism and courage, congratulations.
+Saby Medina I also live in Florida but it's a Tropical storm rn but don't get me wrong but since the waters are warm it might get stronger and turn into a hurricane. I never been in one and I'm scared. Good luck to everyone..
I was 5 years old in 2005 when Wilma struck South Florida. The eyewall has reached my neighborhood of opa locka, florida. Wilma was horrendous and monstrous. The winds were catastrophically strong it teared down part of our roof and trees around the houses. We were left without power for weeks. It sure is a wild life living in Miami dade.
Remember being a kid in Ft Pierce when this happened. A cold front hit right after the storm. Such a a destructive storm followed by cool, beautiful fall weather.
I remember being in my living room with the family when this hit. We had a new daycare back patio complete with air conditioning, couches, t.v, you name it.. Since we lived behind a wide canal, my father knew the winds "could" get strong as there was zero protection on that side of the house from the elements. Well, let's just say his wiring down contraption of the roof did not work. Once the pressure and wind lifted an inch of that roof, it was over. Me and my father crawled through the kitchen window into the patio/daycare in a last ditch attempt to close the door and save the roof from being lifted up by the pressure. We closed the door but it was to late. I have never until this day felt so much power from a storm. Here's this roof weighing thousands of pounds, being jocked around like a piece of tin foil. The impacts it made while it bounced up and down were so strong you could feel it in your chest. Scary s***. Up until then I loved storms (grew up through Andrew) but this storm left it's mark on my family. Seeing my mother sob watching her daycare center being COMPLETELY dismantled changed my view on Hurricanes. They are not to be taken lightly. But, we were fortunate enough to get a perfect cold front literally right after the hurricane. Power was off for three days but we didn't need the A\C! remembering camping out in the backyard making bon fires from broken pieces of nieghborhood fence that were thrown ALL OVER THE PLACE Haha. Wilma was the perfect balance of terrible and good memories. Best night sky views I think Miami ever had for at least 3 days. Cheers! Be safe everyone.
See I live in PA, but we still got some taste of Hurricane Sandy. I remember it being around Halloween, my grandma coming over our apartment because we were having some dinner together and her house is just right across the street. Once we finished up (my mom just moved in her apartment and since I was so used to my grams, I stayed there) I was going to head over grams when this huge gust of wind came around. Being me, I cowered in fear and ran back in the apartment building. I'm terrified of trees falling. So I stayed at my mom's.
I remember it like it was yesterday my dad actually had to go out into the storm to help catch my friends trampoline I was so scared for him he was ok but when he came in the next day he was in a lot of pain. Scary my berry first hurricane was horrible. Of coarse 😬😬😬😬

Omg Lmao 😂 very funny good one
Hahahahaha! X-D good question.
Fade2Dark Don't be daft being out in that weather is deadly and you wouldn't even be able to stand up
Am I the only one who thinks of The Flintstones whenever people talk about Hurricane Wilma?
Everyone is talking about the strong winds of Hurricane Wilma, but not the fact about how high definition the camera is for its time.
That fucking classic at 4:56 I’d be pissed 😤
I love this I got a A plus in my hurican project
I love videos about hurricanes and tornados they so educational and good
I am scared just watching this storm!!! I can't even imagine if is was in it!!
It was an interesting storm. It definitely was very strong.
Grace Sullivan I was in it !!!!
Samuel Olarte Where were you?
Grace Sullivan i'd be completely amazed
Samuel Olarte I was to :D
One Question, HOW THE HECK IS SOMEONE RECORDING THIS HURRICANE CAN LITTERLY FLIP YOUR CAR! 😅
you're not even allowed to be riding on the road while there's a hurricane is supposed to be in the house usually if I cop catches you on the road you can get arrested
Ariana Clark So a cop is just going to casually catch you and arrest you during a hurricane?
+Jordan Phillps I'm talking about if you're out there when everybody supposed to be inside there house before it starts duh or while getting ready to start they Patrol the area to see if anybody still outside while it's getting ready to start and if you are they'll start to yell at you and you can get in trouble
+Ariana Clark tbh I don't know a cop that would drive on patrol during a hurricane. However Matt is coming and, well pray for me and I'll pray for you
Nathan Clarke I didn't say it was during the hurricane. I was talking about before it starts but they know it's going to start
Buildings and cars be like - nahh not this time buddy we want more
Mike, we miss you!!
To this day, I still remember the whistling of the wind...*shudders*
Damion Osborne What?? I'm 16 and this happened when I was like 6, 7, or 8. Lol. You were probably thinking of something else.
Damion Osborne This was 11 years ago
Elijah Sorunmu exactly.
ruben g so true
even the funner thing is that
IT STOP MEH STOP SIGN
One shudders to imagine what inhuman thoughts lie behind that mask. What dreams of chronic and sustained cruelty?
as a kid it was fun and shitty at the same time I lived in apts at this time and it had everyone outside.. in the daytime.. night time we play man hunt it was so dark it was pitch black but fun
The 2005 Hurricane Season was the most destructive hurricane season
Actually 2017 is... 2005 is second
That’s exactly what happened in north Miami Dade in oct 2005. I was 5 years old at the time. It was a monster hurricane.
Congratulations, congratulations, already vi this video one 20 times, very good work, I have seen others that vc made with much would cry out and without the brightness that this has. Good professionalism and courage, congratulations.
I do not like hurrincane im from florida
armoni Powell me too
armoni Powell I prefer a hurricane over a tornado.
Ceramic Quill true indeed. A tornado can produce winds in excess of 300mph+ that makes a hurricane looks like a child's play toy.
That's why I never moving to Florida.
+Saby Medina Yeah same! It's gonna stop me from going to school probably that's why im watching these.
+Saby Medina Oh yeah erika im in florida too
+Firework6758 AJ I live in Florida too...Get ready for erika
+Surfbeautygirlahnika 10 I thought it was hurricane Danny?
+Saby Medina I also live in Florida but it's a Tropical storm rn but don't get me wrong but since the waters are warm it might get stronger and turn into a hurricane. I never been in one and I'm scared. Good luck to everyone..
I was 5 years old in 2005 when Wilma struck South Florida. The eyewall has reached my neighborhood of opa locka, florida. Wilma was horrendous and monstrous. The winds were catastrophically strong it teared down part of our roof and trees around the houses. We were left without power for weeks. It sure is a wild life living in Miami dade.
I was born in Miami Florida October 18 th 2005 and now my mom calls me her little hurricane kid
yass my hurricane project is in the bag
I wonder what kind of storm with what power can take out those trees at 0:40 if this one couldnt ??
Hossein Karimi category 5
This is a category 5 !!
Hossein Karimi At the moment it hit florida it was a 120MPH Cat 3.
I was 5 years old living in Boca raton durring Wilma. The roof caved in and a giant radio tower fell onto the place we were staying in.
@ 1:48 looked like you were in a tornado !!!😱

Who's here watching this video in 2017 during hurricane Irma?
Joanne Oxces Me
You in Boca today? ;)
I'm in Boca, and I'm also barricaded LOL
See I live in PA, but we still got some taste of Hurricane Sandy. I remember it being around Halloween, my grandma coming over our apartment because we were having some dinner together and her house is just right across the street. Once we finished up (my mom just moved in her apartment and since I was so used to my grams, I stayed there) I was going to head over grams when this huge gust of wind came around. Being me, I cowered in fear and ran back in the apartment building. I'm terrified of trees falling. So I stayed at my mom's.
I remember it too, I live in nj and still have memories of all those nights when there were no lights and it was dark, frightening and sad :,((
I remember it like it was yesterday my dad actually had to go out into the storm to help catch my friends trampoline I was so scared for him he was ok but when he came in the next day he was in a lot of pain. Scary my berry first hurricane was horrible. Of coarse 😬😬😬😬
