Swapped my bonnie for an 05 tiger last year. This series of vids is a great help in bringing it up to speed. Thanks for making the effort and taking the time!
Anthony Hulse Hi mate, that's good to hear, hope you are enjoying the bike, they are a great mile muching monster.... will take you anywhere and back! Glad the videos can help, I don't intend to sell mine, so will be plenty of vids coming up!
It's always something wearing out or breaking isn't it. Another great vid. Melly has been getting the confidence to work on her own bike because of your vids Del. Hence, the Rebel was purchased for her to not only get up her riding skills, but also to learn hands on mechanics. Cheers!
Thanks brother....its a privilege to know we've been an inspiration...Melly is a wonderful lady and we'd expect nothing less than for her to take charge and gid'er done..!.. ride safe you two... x
Weldimg a spring to threaded stems with a rubber sleeve over the spring is another solution, provided there is enough room. You could make the hole bigger to accommodate the spring convered by a rubber sleeve.
Even better upgrade: Get LED lights (might have to search for some with good amount of light!) and you won't have to worry about ANY rubber dampening mounts any more. ;)
On the topic of trusty ol' fuel hose. My Aprilia Peg's got a Brembo rear calliper, and the rubber slide pin boot bush jobbie's gone awol, so the calliper knocks around, but I can't seem to get hold of one the right size anywhere! The only option, when I spoke to Aprilia, was to spend £240+ on a whole new one! Do you reckon a piece of fuel hose popped in there would do the same job? I can show you a picture on Thursday (in hospital, non-bike related) if that'll make more sense?
Anything has to be better than paying that much money out aye...and most things can be 'fixed' if you apply some lateral thought.....send me some pictures when you get home and ill see how we can best work it out for you buddy....let me know..
Common sense was lacking at triumph when they designed that but that mod will work a lot better now than it ever did. I also see you have a tank cover on you bike what make is it and are they worth the money don't like the idea of putting a magnetic tank bag on my bare painted tank. Keep up the good work del
Hi Ashley, Thanks mate, common sence often doesnt make profit aye..lol The tank cover is a "Bagster" and it was about £100... i have the tank bag to go with it which was another £100... so a hefty investment..but its instant storage space, looks cool, and my tank is protected from any damage...they are such good quality i would have no issue spending the money again on any bike i buy...(plus the bag itself is universal, if you change yout bike, you jjst buy the relvant cover for your new bike and carry on using the bag.....and the bag itself is excellent quality. totally secure, pretty much waterproof and you get a storm cover for the really heavy rain, check them on the net...good luck.. Del.
Moonfleet41 Another repair I had to make was to the ignition switch, The wires that lead into it are constantly being push and pulled as you turn the handle bars. I first noticed it when my dipped beams would stay on after I took the key out. I opened the ignition switch and found it had been repaired (badly) before, some wires were bare and solder joints had broken. I replaced the wires (I also extended the wires to give more free play) and re-soldered then zip tided the cable so it wasn't pulling directly on the switch. Just thought I would mention it as a new ignition switch on a Tiger is around 130 quid!
I was thinking "he will put two new mounts at the top" i was wrong again ha ha :-)) Im supprised they didnt used modern led bulbs, no elements to fracture.
Nice mod man! How do you like the tiger? A opportunity to purchase one for a good deal arose and I was strongly debating on upgrading into that bike, and turning my current commuter into a project bike.
Hey buddy, I LOVE the Tiger....its like a bike that was designed for road eating...so comfortable for two and loads of luggage... also when its not been washed for three weeks and looks like a swamp donkey...I just power wash it off and spray it up with some WD40....looks like new.. very robust and a total dream to ride..(even if there are some idiot design faults here and there..lol) And as for performance...I get 220 miles from a full tank.. gives me at least 45MPG no matter how hard I ride it or how much we load it up....and best of all, before you think its a touring slouch...It gave me consistent 12.1 second quarter miles times on the drag strip at the Bulldog Bash..!!!! so its kicks arse too...! go get it mate, you wont be disappointed.. !
darkmummy9 Two very different bikes my friend, one is half the power of the other, and I wouldn't bother with the 650 myself... as for parts availability, the Tiger uses the same engine as the Speed Triple and Daytona 955, making it pretty universal, and there is a great network of Triumph dealers over there... maybe test ride them first and see how you feel...
Moonfleet41 Hey Del. That's your bike, too? I simply lost track of how many bikes you and Pen ride and own. Maybe a good idea for another video would be to present all those bikes, talking about them, their ups and downs, economics, etc.?
GeneralOffensive Been through a lot of bikes over 33 years buddy....and yes, we have a few bikes these days...but its a bit goash talking about what you have, dont you think.?.. thanks for your kind support buddy...take care.. Del.
Del, I have found these LED replacements to be as bright if not brighter than stock 1157 brake bulbs but with a much lower current draw, the led ones are getting better all the time. The quality varies with these things as they are not branded but they last a lot longer than standard filament bulbs. The link is the cheapest I have found, more expensive ones are available. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400786155118?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
RetroCable.com You're right buddy, LED's are the future, i cant think of a modern new bike that doesnt have them as standard...in the future, blown bulbs will be a thing of the past... thanks for the link..

Great vid. Delboy's open university of biking
Ha ha, hardly, just a simple little upgrade..
Nice tee, mate! Cheers from Portugal and thanks for the great videos!
Thanks for watching João , glad you enjoy!

It's what's happened to my Tiger.
Thanks for the advice.
Glad it helped
Nice one Del, that was a great little mod.
Great Sweat Shirt! Faro, Portugal!!
I would have not thought about the fuel hose. I was thinking the same repair but with a spring.
Thanks for this video! I just picked up a used Tiger with this issue. 👍🏽👍🏽
Oh man, that was a good fix. There was me thinking 'cable tie'.
Cheers Jake, that was a long time ago now.. but still relevant aye. All the best mate.
Just about to do a similar mod on my 885i tiger, cheers for the idea's.

You’re rubbing off on me... I thought of something similar for this bolt/nut/fuel hose arrangement before I saw your solution. LOL
now then, cool vid - amazing what common sense and a bit a thought can achieve - cool fix - love it - have fun keep safe - cheers Nige...
Cheers Nige, good to hear form you mate..
Nice trick Del ;-)
I have used self imalginate (think that's how it's spelled) tape a few times for vibration protection. But that fuel hose suggestion is genius. 👍
How correct, remove 50 things to 1 thing. Nice thoughts for the repair, 100% better than factory. Great Job,,,
Ride Safe,,,,
Thanks Brother.. always good to hear from you, makes you realise why the garage labour charges are so high aye..?
Enjoyed the video. Thank you!
Thaks mate, glad you enjoyed it..
If it didn't break, we'd have no fun fixing it ;) Nice alternative to the Triumph mount :)
"Nice alternative to the Triumph mount" ....yeah, you mean an alternative that works...lol
Triumph obviously didn't load test it with several kilos of cake balanced on the rear 😜
Boycie Swindon
Idiots..!

That's the way to improve, by bad design. I have done it, with all my bikes, so far. Be dedicated, do it yourself!!!

A great mod . Good thinking .
Hola me podrías mostrar como bajar la suspensión trasera porfavor. Un saludo 👋
Hi there!
What material did you use?
Dimensions,and so?
Now I have Renthels fitted to my Yamaha YBR 125 and to my supersize Oxford bar end Mirrors fit no problem
Just fixed this the other week on my Tiger, so like you said it is a common fault
Didn't even know it was a common Tiger fault....but looking at the design, it was always gonna be aye..!

Modern LED pish tosh....nowt wrong with real bulbs mate...just got to buy them in bulk...lol

Right now its either the tiger or a early 2000's Vstrom 650. Kind of worried about part availability in the US for the tiger. Such a hard choice!

Cheers mate, aint hard is it...makes you wonder who they task with designing these things aye...lol
Proper mendage
Cheers buddy.... and you just know the bottom ones will break now....DOH,
