This was excellent, however I was told to vacuum the dirt/debri only and not use a blower to prevent dust from getting blown deeper inside the areas you want to keep clean. Thank you for saving me a fortune
I was told for $180 they take it out and clean it, but I find that very hard to believe they do anything more than what was shown here. They charge $50 labor to change the cabin air filter which takes 5 minutes. I would like to see a video that shows removing the whole fan so you can clean behind it. I would never blow air into the fan cage... at least not until I see what is on the other side of it.
1. Use a vacuum, don´´t use pressuriced air. 2. When using a vacuum hold the fan still, otherwise if he fan spins it enduces electricity and damages it. 3. Use something like a Q-tip, paint brush, soft cloth etc. with the vacuum cleaner.
Love the way you showed us how to clean the fan blades with a small vacuum and brush to prevent pushing dust into the inverter vents. I cleaned my fan filter today and the blades were only slightly dusty, but I didn’t know what to do if they were dirty. Toyota wants several hundred dollars for this minor maintenance!
1:42 I don't know about the car you used for the demonstration, but the manual for my Yaris *specifically* warns against using compressed air on the fan. probably to avoid dust being blown into the battery assembly.
@@JohnCap523 - My 2012 Prius plug-in has the intake in a different position, along the right side of the rear seats, right next to the door frame. According to other videos I've watched, there is no factory filter. But there is an aftermarket filter that clips right over the vent.
Straightforward, but goes against Toyota's recommendations. NEVER use compressed air on the fan assembly!!! You risk damaging the fan and dust getting into the battery assembly itself!
1. Don´t use pressurized air, use a brush and a vacuum cleaner instead. Make sure the fan does NOT spin or you can potentially damage it. 2. Don´t take off the filter or clean it INSIDE your car, take it out and replace it outside, the whole point of this filer is to not let that dust come inside the battery. 3. Replace the filter don´t just clean it off as well. It´s cheap.
Fan won't be damaged even if vacuum turn it as it has ball bearing inside. This is just regular fan like in every other we found for cooling. The only thing to watch for is not blowing dust in it. That's it.
@@The_Touring_Jedi No, the vacuum can damage it if you are not careful. It´s the same with PC components. It can also damage it because it creates a charge.

I have a 2024 non-plug in Tucson hybrid and there is a vent in the center of the back seat that doesn’t seem to be removable. Is there a filter behind this that needs to be cleaned? The manual doesn’t seem to mention this as any maintenance
Hello, after cleaning and changing the filter of my 2016 Prius hybrid, I started to hear the fan spinning when the battery is charged. Before, I never heard it turn. Is this normal or should I be worried??
Any spare parts dealer can provide you this filter , if you tell them the VIN nr. of your car. Price is around 10-12 US Dollars in my coiuntry . i don't know the price abroad , but you can check with spare parts sellers from your country.Good luck.
Filter maintenance appears to be the reason why people recommend that you not buy a used hybrid - as a second owner, you have no clue whether the first owner maintained the battery properly to ensure its long life.
It's best to assume the worst when buying a 2nd hand car. Current Toyota hybrids are hardy though, usually if the car's hybrid system starts to underperform it's because the internal battery contacts are not clean + the cells are unbalanced + HV fan dirty. Thankfully, the actual cells can last a long time.
Hi I think they screw on my car is stripped, keeps turning but doesn't pop out. Can you advise if I can just pry it open by force? I tried to see the thread area but it is blue there. Thank you.
Good video, but the video goes downhill when you sprayed the fan .You should have taken out the fan and cleaned it separately, although you used the vacuum afterwards........
Thanks for sharing your video very nice advice i have to learn alot to take care of the hybrid car because i just bought 2022 toyota venza hybrid limited in Asia call harrier in North America call venza thanks very much and take care bye from milton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Depends on your usage and whether your driving environment is dirty (eg ferrying pets or you always wind down your windows). I would open and check every 2 oil changes.
Have you thought about improving cooling to the hybrid battery pack in our hot tropical weather? Perhaps something like a liquid cooling like in some PC cooling systems. Heat kills the hybrid battery lifespan and performance imho.
Yes I have actually. It has been a project that has lingered within my mind for a while. Was thinking of having a cooling fan to pull air and heat out of the hybrid battery. (Currently there is only a fan pushing air into the system, which was the one I cleaned). However, I haven't found the time to poke around / analyse how the cooling system works. I did notice the heat from the hybrid batteries radiates into the rear seat quite a bit though.
Dear Brother, I have a Prius PHV for my personal use. Could you give a electrical drawing and manual for Prius PHV Model 2015 , ZVW35? then i shall be very grateful to you dear. Best wishes for you bright future ahead. Best Regards Shamim
Yes there is actually. Use a thin flathead screwdriver and gently pry the screw towards you while unscrewing that screw. Sometimes the threads don't grip properly and this will help.
Ha, My Toyota no longer gives out part numbers. As if that would stop me! Still, I would probably buy this one from Toyota because it is so specialized and it is only $24.24 and always in stock. Some things you have to buy local...
I bought it from a nearby auto parts store for approx US$10. It's a simple piece of filter that's used in most of the current gen Toyota hybrids, so I would imagine it should readily be available in most major auto parts stores.

I had the same problem, try to pry without too much force on the back of the big plastic plug with your one hand as as you unscrew the screw with other hand, that should work. For me it worked. Good luck.
So,wrap your brains around this. The Toyota maintenance schedule recommends this service only if you vehicle is used in special operation. Such as taxi, police or door to door delivery in other words sustained low speed driving. Don’t believe me look it up in the maintenance schedule/log book. Every time you take your vehicle in for service they try to sell you as much maintenance as they can. Whether they lie to you or not. Things like brake fluid flushing, engine induction system cleaning, transmission/power splitting device fluid changing etc. If it’s not on the Toyota maintenance schedule they’re just wanting to flush your wallet.

Do not use the duster, use a vacuum only or a microfibre towel. This is the same procedure on Lexus UX 200 and UX 250H models just an FYI.

My thoughts, exactly, Henrik ! The first thot, came to mind, was a vacuum. i would even use, the hose, and poke it in there, as far as it would go.
Notice, those first generation Toyota Hybrides ( pre 2013 ) have often no real filter that you can clean, but vacuum cleaning can be done also.
