  • This 6 v 6 drill, called "I swing, 2 times, 3 chances," is a "rotational chase game" presented by Diane Flick-Williams.
    Here’s how it works:
Two teams - let's call them Team A and Team B - compete to see who can get through all six rotations first. The key to a fast finish is getting first-ball kills (FBK) as quickly as possible.
Team A starts by serving to Team B. If Team B puts the ball down on the first swing, they receive another serve. If they get a second consecutive FBK, they get to rotate and continue receiving. If they don’t get an FBK but they win the rally, they get to receive again. If they get an FBK on that point, they rotate.
Once you lose a rally, the other team receives.
Besides aggressive hitting, success in this drill depends heavily on the receiving team's passers being able to handle serves coming from many angles.
Most of all, "1 swing, 2 times, 3 chances" simulates a match-like urgency. It requires focus and teamwork, and it rewards teams that hang in there and give themselves multiple opportunities to achieve the goal.
