Norden and Ducati are my top picks but in reality the safe choice for me is the Africa Twin. My dealer is across town, the AT is a proven platform, parts and accessories are priced reasonably relative to the competition. Many of these bikes are fantastic but they fall short when considering they lack strong dealer support networks or parts are just way over priced.
I dig the retro paint scheme. Wow that HD Adventure bike looks better then i thought. Interested to hear the price point. The Indian challenger's front wing/ fender IMO looks way to big and hideous. I really like the extra fuel tanks on the Ducti scrambler, very cool
Beautiful bikes, great time to be alive to see these bikes but no word on costs £££? That and a poor dealer network here in the UK for those bikes means people will continue to look elsewhere. What we need is a 400-500cc rally style bike that is still under 170kg and a bit more longevity in the service intervals with a decent tank range, think the gap between CRF250L rally (£5k) and Yamaha Tenere 700 (£9k) What we need to be realistic. £7k new price, 450cc rally styled bike,
Really like the norden hoping they bring that bike past concept...the one I'd like to take home is the Yamaha tracer 700, but sadly it's not coming to the states.
Frank Malone why I won’t buy a Yamaha, they didn’t bring the MT-10-SP either, so I bought a 1290-SuperDuke R!! F -Yamaha!!!! The KTM has been Flawless at 11,000 miles, only problem is my arms have stretched 6” !!!!
I bought an FZ-07 for the low priced.. then I spent a ton of money trying to make it like a Tracer.. Yamaha does sell the Tracer 900 and the Tracer 900 GT in the USA.. I would like to have a little more power anyway .. I like the Indian FTR-1200 .. but the T-700 or Triumph Tiger 900 suit my needs much better.. Have heard rumors of an Indian Adventure bike ..
Wow, I've just spent 16'11'' in motorcycle heaven. Great to see HD finally decided to make "real world" 21st century bikes. The 2 concepts are absolutely awesome. Back to the real world, I'm about to upgrade from a Tiger 1050 Triumph and I must choose between a 2013 Multistrada 1200 or a 2014 KTM 1190 adventure. What would you guys choose?
Hey there. KTM with no doubt. That is a bike that has both looks, and power, but also has SOUL. If you have some real adventure spirit, you will choose the 1190. In my opinion Ducati's are beautiful and innovative, but they are built for people who like to show off and never actually do anything. One way i think of it, is like this: Imagine you are driving on a mountain road(asphalt), and you and your mates see a back road, dirt, green, mud, rocks etc. Which one fits better as your bike in that image? I imagine the KTM and im feeling very playful, im having fun. Right now im still with my first bike, a Honda Transalp 650, and until i can afford the KTM, i wouldn't want to change it, for this very reason.... Cheers
Exactly, I don't like the way these new ADV bikes are going, why is a 373cc ADV bike heavier than a 24 year old DR650? all these bikes are really really heavy for what they are, its like manufacturers these days don't care about weight and only care about horse power numbers and features like LCD screens, smart phone connectivity, ABS, traction control, blah blah blah, I don't care about any of that crap. I love my DR650, its light compared to these bikes, it goes well once you do the performance and suspension mods, its cheap and reliable, its completely analog meaning I am the traction control and ABS system, its basically like a very heavy mountain bike with an engine, and mountain bikes are a blast to ride because they're so pure, its just you and the bike, no electronic aids or safety nets in between, and judging by the way motorcycles are going I think the DR650 will be the last motorcycle I ever buy.
@@benjy288 They are basically heavier because, they are liquid cooled and maybe have 2 cylinders etc etc. Understandable since thumpers like the dr650 and klr do contaminate etc etc. Manufactures have definately lost it. I understand there is a market for these bikes but come on. what about the regular public. I think the only modern adv bike that is certainly very capable and cheap is the versys x300, but still It lacks ground clearance and suspension for the type of riding I like, I do like it actually has a seat for a pillion. I guess we will have to wait and see what the new KLR will be.
I don't know about that. I owned a DR650 completely ADV upgraded. It was a fun AND awesome bike to ride. Took it on a ride through Mexico for a month. No problems at all. The thing was a tank. Gas and oil..That's all it needed. But the KTM 390 looks pretty sweet. About the same weight and superior in every other way. I just wished the DR had an extra 10HP which would help on mountain roads at altitude. Modded, the suspension was 'good' but be gentle. WP on the 390? Fantastic! All the electronics and modern drivetrain tech. And the price is fantastic! I LOVE the 790 Adventure R. For me, it's pretty much perfect. But it's also 2x the price as the 390. If I can get a tank with a couple of extra gallons on that 390, I'm sold.
The vast majority of these bikes aren't adventure bikes in the true sense-they are simply able to do gravel road a light off road work. The reason I say that is that A/ they're too heavy (anything over 189 kg and certainly over 200 kg is too heavy. Have you ever tryed to lift one of these from Horizontal? Good luck-it won't happen. So you're on your own on a supposed "adventure bike", in the middle of nowhere and you've fallen off and can't pick it up because it's too heavy. You're riding on your own! Bit tricky isn't it. B/ Seat height if it's over 800 mm will cut quite a few people out so I guess that's probably quite a few more crossed off the list. C/ Reliability-these bikes you mention are full of electronics-in the middle of nowhere on your own you want reliability and simplicity (most of these aren't). Good luck if they break down with a complex issue you can't fix on your own. Also too many electronic parts to probably carry with you not to mention diagnostic equipment. You failed to mention the best set up and best value for money true adventure bike the Royal Enfield Himalayan. (simple and effective-with extra fuel carrying capacity and a good fuel range. Standard Equipment (carrier/ bash plate/ touring screen/ centre stand/fuel gauge/ compass/ 2 X trip counters/fork gator's/ superb handling/ good suspension and very comfortable on long journey's. 803 mm seat height. 189 kgs. The other one not mentioned on your list the Ducati Scrambler Icon/ Classic/ Desert Sled. Less than 189 kgs wet/ twin cylinder/ 75 hp/ 790 mm seat height/ very comfortable on long journey's. Handles very well on road as well as on difficult 4WD trails. Comes std with very little, you have to add everything as an accessory. I've just added C bow pannier system to mine and a Dart screen. I also removed the non standard bars and replaced for factory ones. I need to add a bash plate also. KTM have a 490 adventure twin coming out next year which should be interesting.
Give me one of the Japanese bikes any day over the others. As the Consumer Reports owner survey showed, the top three reliable manufactures are the Japanese. With Yamaha leading the pack in reliability. Followed my Suzuki, Honda, and Kawasaki (in that order). Some of the least reliable being BMW. Just proof that more expensive and fancier doe not equals better. Harley Divisions are also known for spending a lot of time at the shop. But interestingly enough, in CR's survey, HD rated better than BMW when it comes to reliability. But was beaten by Indian motorcycles. One bike I did not see on this list was the Honda 500. It seems that most of the bike he showcased were large displacement bikes. He also forgot to mention the new Kawasaki Versys 300-X. To me how reliable a bike is considered is a huge part of my purchasing decision. Specially for an adventure bike, and to a bit lesser extend for touring bikes. I don't know about you, but if I am going to be traveling through long lonely dirt roads in the middle of no where, I want the piece of mind of knowing that I have a bike that many consider a reliable bike. But I suppose that is just me.
The beak on the Suzuki must go ! Before the first get off ! Whatever happened to simple air cooled, lightweight, reliable, cheap, single cylinder thumpers? I think they have all gone mad. So am sticking to the proven ole thumpers till the end. They can see how much fun those electronic overweight overpowered expensive techno brutes are stuck in a mud hole. Just cleaning the mud out of the things must be a nightmare. What kind of adventure are they talking about? A trip to starbucks? Bring back the two stroke 500's as well as the Xr 600's please. Anyone who rides any real dirt knows!
Fat over weight barges.... crf450l is selling well here in oz for a reason...these are ludicrous for any real rider who wishes to go a bit more offroad. I see my XR650R being in the garage for a long time as there little choice available. Swiss army knife bike. Light, powerful, heaps of accessories and easily handled....no way I want over 150kg off road. Drop these behemoths and its broken bones everywhere which is crazy when off the beaten path...get back to basics and sell a proper dually...
The Harley looks like they just slapped the nose portion from a full fairing road bike on there and called it good. No thanks, it's just ugly in my opinion. With the exception of 1 or 2 of these bikes I can't imagine the owner actually doing any dualsport type riding on them, way too expensive to ding and scratch with rocks and branches. They are beautiful bikes though.
guzzi and ducati. And that big harley. Shame on BMW making japanized bikes, buried under an ocean of cheap looking plastic, with a CHINESE engine and german price. Trash bin.
What a load of complicated shit. I'd like to see anyone do some decent mileage on any of those without a shit load of problems. All designed to be obsolete by the time you have read this. Can you imagine trying to buy parts for them in a few short years? give me a 1980's XT600E
KTM completely dominates the Adventure motorcycle market world wide and yet not one model shown here. Looks like Motobob is a motosnob and has it all wrong. The 901 Norden model was only leaked to the motorcycle world in September (not available for puchase) and Motobob has it listed as one of the top 13 best.
if you want to ride without any issue, take the Honda Africa Twin, to the yamaha Tenere' ... but for me , I'll go for the Desert X, maybe with suspensions upgrade ... why? Well, I like I like the look ...
They are over designed. There are too many lines- lines for the sake of lines as opposed to lines for the sake of function. They are too busy, too messy, too many crevices to accumulate crud n mud- they are zombie knives of motorcycles. Engine, frame, wheels, bars, lights, electrics, somewhere to carry stuff, nuff said.... make pretty by what’s not there.
Sounds mad but I do not like th look of any of them. I think I would need to sell the house to buy one of them and I would hate to pick one up if they fell. Futuristic yes, but who the hell needs to watch a smart screen when your driving? You drive to enjoy, not just roar along watching vids and messages. The police would love you if they caught you doing this in the UK Forgive me, all you who like new toys, but I am old fashioned.
the adventure starts when the weight of the bike goes to more than 200 kg...... also when you are far away from the next computer-equipped workshop to find out electronic problems resulting of this overloaded handlebars with hundreds of buttons....
The Harley would look nice parked next to the upcoming Tesla pickup .... proves to me that sometimes the badge is more important to some than aesthetically pleasing design. Ugh. I like the Husky actually :|
Why the girls on the bikes? Seriously this pisses me off so much at shows. If manufacturers want a model on their stand then so be it, but please keep her off the bloody bike. When I go to a bike show to look at new bikes, I want to be able to stand and look at all the little styling details of the new model. That is after all WHY I'm there - to look at bikes. If there's a sexy girl on it, wearing form-fitting clothes and pushing her ass out as she strokes the handlebars, I'm acutely aware of the fact that to other people, I don't look like I'm admiring the bike - I look and feel like a perv gawping at the girl.
Dude...the Cagiva Elefant had a ducati engine but definately did NOT have ducati in its name! I thought i was gona see 13 adventure bikes...you have no clue...
Can someone explain to me why Adventure bikes are so damn heavy bulky? Seem like adventure bikes would be more like Dual sports because you have to ride slow over rocks, uneven surfaces and big branches
When you do your analysis can you do standard conversion too? Kilometers kilo liters doesn’t translate. Appreciate the review of the up coming bikes. I’d love to give the Ducati scrambler a shot- but never buy a first production anything.
The first two bmws look so ugly and probably over engineered just like everything else they make. The harley i seen one today at daytona speedway and it looks good but the rear wheel is very small for the bike , didn't see price for it but as always is probably very over priced like the rest of the bikes they have on display
I like the Indian for looks but don't care much for any of the other bikes and wouldn't consider buying any of them new since I liked the older cruisers much better than what I see today.

Where's the PanAmerica.. simple, Harley can't build that engine. They realized 145 hp is beyond their ability and they're now looking for help.
The Pana by Harley I like, but I think they should also introduce a middle weight namely 800-900cc bike.
Your voice can be implemented in MotoGP commentary❤️❤️
I dig the retro paint scheme.
Wow that HD Adventure bike looks better then i thought. Interested to hear the price point.
The Indian challenger's front wing/ fender IMO looks way to big and hideous.
I really like the extra fuel tanks on the Ducti scrambler, very cool
Yamaha has the best blonde accessories .
The hair drier and espresso machine are nice.
I'd take the Husqvarna Norden 901!
Beautiful bikes, great time to be alive to see these bikes but no word on costs £££? That and a poor dealer network here in the UK for those bikes means people will continue to look elsewhere.
What we need is a 400-500cc rally style bike that is still under 170kg and a bit more longevity in the service intervals with a decent tank range, think the gap between CRF250L rally (£5k) and Yamaha Tenere 700 (£9k)
What we need to be realistic.
@@michaeljkasnter lol...Cool, glad your enjoying the ktm...that's what motorcycles are supposed to do.
Cheers
Big boys Toys. Loving
Carn't beat the old DR 650 ,still a legend
That video gave me cancer...
LOL
Really like the Harley and Norden. I love the look of the Tracer too, i'm too big though, bet chicks would look hot on it.
You totally missed out on the best looking, best value, best performing Royal Enfield Himalayan.
Not sure about "best performance"...
Why husqvarnas look good and Ktm looks shit. They the same conpany lol
Agreed!
Is it possible to have an adventure on a standard Motorcycle ?..........asking for a friend
Love the "gps map" style graphic on Norden 901. Now they just need to release information about when it will be released. Hopefully in 2020
Give me one of the Japanese bikes any day over the others.
Husq Norden & Ducati Desert x awesome design are more suitable on mars terrain expedition than earth road 👨🚀
The beak on the Suzuki must go ! Before the first get off ! All have too much clamp or bolt on plastic....bulky fat looking too....Triumph not too bad on that gripe, could not get a good look.....The Harley headlight cowling.....yuk ! Moto Gutsy....maybe.........Indian....yesh, a resurrected Victory..... There you have my opine....Thank You !
3 fuel tanks! I wonder what the capacity and range will be. Actual real world distance travel capabilities, i would like to know more.
Outside of the scout maybe I’ve never understood the appeal of Indian. Big and ugly looking bikes. Now that Guzzi and Husqvarna......❤️❤️❤️
I am a long-time BMW fan, but the Husqvarna, Ducati and Triumph have the best looks. Honda is holding up okay, though!
The police would love you if they caught you doing this in the UK
Forgive me, all you who like new toys, but I am old fashioned.
the adventure starts when the weight of the bike goes to more than 200 kg...... also when you are far away from the next computer-equipped workshop to find out electronic problems resulting of this overloaded handlebars with hundreds of buttons....

@@kalbit007 well...almost
@@kalbit007 yeah but no
Tracer still has foot pegs on rear sets. Who wants an adventure-tourer with feet tucked up under your butt. GET IT RIGHT YAMAHA
Suzuki V Strom ❤️💪❤️💪
Dude...the Cagiva Elefant had a ducati engine but definately did NOT have ducati in its name! I thought i was gona see 13 adventure bikes...you have no clue...
African Twin!
It is Africa Twin, not African Twin.
Can someone explain to me why Adventure bikes are so damn heavy bulky? Seem like adventure bikes would be more like Dual sports because you have to ride slow over rocks, uneven surfaces and big branches
What about bmw gs 1250 adventure.?
Not new for 2020
When you do your analysis can you do standard conversion too? Kilometers kilo liters doesn’t translate. Appreciate the review of the up coming bikes. I’d love to give the Ducati scrambler a shot- but never buy a first production anything.
The first two bmws look so ugly and probably over engineered just like everything else they make. The harley i seen one today at daytona speedway and it looks good but the rear wheel is very small for the bike , didn't see price for it but as always is probably very over priced like the rest of the bikes they have on display
My favorites are the Moto Guzzi and the Suzuki V-Strom. Thank you.
That Husqvarna looks nice for sure.
I will say this about the Harley, I am biased towards the Ducati as ive owned Ducati but I do like the Harley over the Ducati in the looks department.
I like the Indian for looks but don't care much for any of the other bikes and wouldn't consider buying any of them new since I liked the older cruisers much better than what I see today.
