- I STILL remember being in theaters the day that Pirates of the Carribean 3 came out. I was in middle school, and JUST getting really into vocal music for the first time in my life. When I saw the opening of the movie, my little mind was blown, and now @Thevoiceplay has come and blown it away even further with this absolutely incredible arrangement. Hot damn Eli showed his true form in this song. I love how his voice has that... EDGE to it when he belts it out that would be perfectly suited in a hard rock song
My favorite move in this is when Geoff plays magician with misdirection. Towards the end, he sings “never shall,” then the others each sing “never shall" in a rising chord. Then as they sing “we,” he moves his hand the way he does to indicate a low note, so you think “Here it comes,” but they go high instead before he hits you with “Never die” and just holds it there.
"I was so stunned I was just going to sit there in silence for a bit..." Yeah. I get it.

I think that this song is a textbook example of bringing the energy of a song up, and up, and up to the absolute highest possible level... and then taking the energy higher.
Geoff has taken us to school with this arrangement.
Those aren’t keys Cesar is holding, they’re shackles. Much more pirate-y and creepy.
And shackles are especially appropriate, since in the movie it's chained prisoners singing.

Always love your reactions! This has to be, by far, Voiceplay's best work to date. Geoff's arrangement was pure brilliance, and everyone was absolutely amazing and on point. I've listened to it probably 100 times since it came out, and I hear something new every time. There are so many layers to this amazing production.

I love Mortimiss. She brings a very nice counterbalance to your hype with her kind of nonchalance. The contrast is super funny and her lack of "visual" enthusiasm is top notch. Loved it. It also reminds me people around me when I want to share those videos with them and they are not into A cappella or singing at all... My meaning : more Mortimiss!
Another reaction video bites the dust. Voiceplay have managed to render almost everyone speechless with this rendition. I have yet to see a reaction video where ther isn't a few moments of deathly silence when it finishes because those reacting to it can't get their heads around it in time to speak.

It's easy to forget that Layne (and Adam from Home Free and Kevin from Pentatonix) are also incredible singers instead of just being vocal percussionists.
Adam can almost get down to Tim's level. It is apparent during his "drum solo" bits during their concerts.
Its crazy how layne and geoff have the same lowest note but geoff used growl and layne used ingressive (he can probably go lower)

Hey Mortimiss, one of my favorites movies as well. This was chillingly delightful. Aside from the set and light works (all of which were on point) the characterizations were perfect. Shout out to Cesar's creepy eye, Layne's serial killer eyes, and last but not least Eli and his insanely accurate portrayal of a life long inhabitant of an asylum. Between you and Miss, you present a very balanced review. She knows what she likes and you explain why we all like it. You guys are perfect together. My husband and I have a similar dynamic, only he is the more anchored and I am the more exuberant. We have been married for 48 yrs. Together we, imperfect as we are, have found a perfect harmony, it looks like y'all have found your own.
This is my first reaction that I’m seeing with Mortimiss, and all I can say is the two of you are so cute! More of the two of you please!
Okay, im really late to this but just found your channel looking for voiceplay reactions. The offset "Thieves and beggars" at the end that you pointed out almost feels like what you might get back if you called over a body of water, and your voice echoed back to you. SUCH a cool choice.

Great review!! This arrangement is just stunning. I’ve listened to it dozens of times and keep finding something new to get excited about. They’re all pretty good actors but Eli and Jose are absolutely superb, and if the vocals didn’t ratchet the tension up to crazy levels, their intensity would take it there. Layne has got to be one of the best beat boxers I’ve ever heard-he does things I can’t believe are just him and a mic. Of course, there’s Geoff and his crazy bass just setting a solid foundation for this and Cesar brings that innocence and sweetness that you heard in the original, when the song was started by that little boy (he’s no slouch as an actor either-can’t wait to see more of him with the group).

I love it. This is a cover that has stuck with me hard since it came out, and I'm so happy to see your take on it. I still remember that the first two reactions that I saw for it had the reactor just get up and walk away from the camera for a minute. It's my working theory that this cover is intended to do in reactors.

Beatbox! The term is beatbox!😄 Layne is the beatboxer. Absolutely NO hate whatsoever on u saying "vocal percussionist" bcuz obvi that is correct, but it's much easier to hear u say beatboxer rather trying to imitate it😁🥰 BTW, Layne is also a violinist & an arranger, along with Geoff, for VoicePlay.

Hey Mortius, just wanted to let you know this is the full song. which is very hard and rare to find. the movie only ever did the first three parts, the kid started off with the king and his men, and then the full pirate started in with yo-ho all hands section, then it shifted to Elizabeth whisper singing the some men have died section before she is found by the Chinese pirates

This is such an epic rendition. Oi. And for clarity on the original, only the first verse and chorus are featured in the beginning of the film, and then Elizabeth is heard singing the latter bits while rowing through Singapore trying to get the local pirates' attention.

IMO I think it helps that Geoff, as the Bass, is the one arranging the songs. He knows his range and can go up or down as needed.

ok what I have noticed is the nod to the movie that voice play does, it's amazing. Shaking the shackles even though just a single set is a nod to the part where they are stomping and shaking their chains, Cesare singing so sweetly/ the little boy singing solo, and a few other things I don't want to ruin for you, check it out. It is very cool.

Geoff held that last F1 like at least 6 seconds. That's a really breathe-y note, in chest. I'd need like an extra lung (assuming I could reach it at all)....
The layers in this arrangement are 🤌 chef’s kiss and one of their best works.

If you like voiceplay and Geoff, then you will really love Tomi P. He is a bass singer who also does his own covers. He is also part of a collaboration with 3 other basses and they are called the bass gang. Tomi P has a 6 or 7 octave range if I remember correctly and came out with a cover of My Mother Told Me recently. Great reaction as always/
