This is such a cool bike. I started riding in 1998 and when I went to my first comp I saw Chris Pascucci riding a Heavy Tools mod. This is very rare to see. I love the size of it and to me part of what made trials so cool in the first place was seeing guys ride things on a full stock like this. It just changes the whole appeal and aesthetic.
Oh man, seeing you cut away to setup those old Magura brakes brought back many memories! I have a love/hate relationship with those, so good when they're dialed in but such a nightmare to get them there. I still have my old Megamo Mod Trials bike from 1996 and the brakes work fine, just a little lag on the retracting side after all these years....
I think that I've mentioned it before, but I forgive the Cute Thief for taking A nap. Naps are nice and all. But I have a one of thirty ever made Namaiki DSY (Dual Slalom Yakuza.) frame. It's essentially A hard core street frame similar to a 24 bikes or OG Evil frame. They were made by some friends from NZ who were living in Tokyo and started their own bike company on the side. They contracted an aquaintance of mine to work with the manufacturer in CA who was commonly known as Poser Brad because he had a small BMX mag and used to use posed shots of himself for his covers. I was sort of sponsored, (I got one free frame and a trip to Vegas for Interbike.) before he decided that he deserved more money and just kept most of the first batch for ransom. I did race it a couple of times in the duel slalom, the most memorable time being at the Mammoth National in the nineties. I had it set up with low BMX bars and the shifter mounted to the seat clamp so I could only really shift in the air. I've told my good friend from those 180 days that his son can have it once he's big enough, but but if the Cute Thief would agree to only borrow it, I'd love to see you give it a go. I'd ship it with a headset and matching fork installed so I don't have to see that horrible piece of wood involved in the build. It's a 24" frame and kind of short, but I'm 2m and have enjoyed it for what it is. An over built MTB BMX for the streets. My favorite trials build was with the matching lowers on a Rock Shox DHO with the upper crown inverted. I'm a cat person and the Cute Thief is after all cute and the frame is dear to me so I may require him as collateral. He'd be in safe, huge hands. All the better to rub with.
That reminds me of some of the generic Alu frames that used to be around in that era. The under bb gusset could actually be a mount for a kick stand in another guise 😁
I love the blue! I have an old set of hs22 blues. I used to have a baby blue Cannondale with gipiemme ultra light 16 spoke wheels, I think its a road brand and pronounced Jipiemme. I'm also running a Mavic 721 on the front of my hardtail and that rim is exceptional! I think the bike could use some blue pedals, maybe even blue grips
Wow another stunning bike build Nice to see the piece of wood still is able to deliver a good old pounding after all these years I wish it was the same for us CT in front of The fire story of an old man’s life 😂😂
Ha! So that's why you asked for a Pashley fork on Facebook - I almost offered mine but really should sell the whole Pashley together. The Heavy Tools is cool. Particularly like the inclusive seat clamp "so brave" hahaha.
That’s definitely my era of ride! It’s just missing some Easton Monkey bars, and I’d change the forks to Fatty Rs just to match the “chunky” aesthetic.
I’ve seen these built with Fatty Rs, gotta say I really think this frame suites curved forks way more! Plus Fatty forks are getting pretty hard to find 😢
@@Ali_Clarkson I’m amazed you found an intact set of HS33s in blue with the evo mounts! Unfortunately I still have a phobia of Pashley forks after snapping a set and eating a face full of tarmac and spending a weekend in hospital
I love it!!! Only thing I would change is the back Tire, another Blue one would be awesome! For colour choices, i suggest a littlebit of red or yellow, could look nice...
i had one of these in black, was a dream build for me. It got stolen, i left my friend outside a shop holding onto it and some chives bet him up and stole it never to be seen again.
As far as I know, Gipiemme is a boutique Italian brand of road bike components. Never seen one of their saddles before, but I have one of their wheelsets secondhand.
I’m getting my ish together to go ride and an Ali video pops up. Doesn’t get better than that. A little inspiration for the day. Not sure how good I’m going to do, I don’t have Power Stays. 😂😂
@ you’ve made this so funny to me. I’m out riding. It absolutely gorgeous here in so cal. Thank you for engaging with your audience. True professional.
I am still riding the hope pro 2! It has 48 points all ya need 😅. Its on my loaner bikes for beginners, ftw bombproof machine. Arcade steel fork! Love that hub.
@ I remember the feeling of breaking a shimano freehweel .... pop!! . man the old chains used to snap every other ride!! Kids today got it alllll ahhahahahahaa 😜 18p of early acs claws... fuuuuuuu... Got my pants caught in ruined another pair...
Lovely build. I believe Heavy Tools distributed and perhaps later became Identity. I had an early Identity Dr Jekyll trails / jump frame in exactly the same blue, exactly the same dropouts and it had some Heavy Tools branding on it.
Back in the early 2000's my mate had one of these but he snapped it on a drop. I had a DDG Shooter but that that got knicked after 3 months of owning it.
EEEEEYYYYYYY Black Shark Tyres!!! I had ZERO idea they were THAT rare!? Kinda funny you have the Blue Pashley Fork too. I had a Blue 26mhz, with those Blue Forks, the Black Shark Blue Walls (Thank you Neil & Ricky @AW Cycles!) Polished Middleburn RS7's with a Blue Middleburn Bashguard & Blue DMR V8's! Blue ODI Grips too. Looking at the thumbnail I clicked immediately! Being antisocial sat in the corner 😄
Really like this, love the colour too think it looks bang on! Like that you can sit down to ride it to a spot. Talking of v-brakes at the end do you have any tips for setups and tricks, trying to set some up on a wider rim and even with the slim spacers the arms seem really wide?
Great build, Ali! I feel duty bound to warn you about those pedals, though, based on personal experience. They leak grease worse than a McDonald's skip and their threads are more or less made of cheese, which cost me a crank arm.
If I had this bike twenty years ago, I would have been the happiest person in the world. Yes, there is too much blue. This is what happens when someone doesn't have enough sense for aesthetics and wants to match everything in one color. And that's a mistake. For example, yellow Magura brakes with yellow levers would go perfectly with the blue. Add a yellow stem and pedals and it would be great.
@stinkyfinn6977 yeah! Sorry it was the DDG shooter in was thinking of. I think the frame was called other things as well. Handsome dog had one. I just confused the two brand names.
@lonoreturns yes for sure the Handsome dog rock hound (got a rock hound an hansome dog arrow also) has exactly the same geometry as the jumping jack flash from planet X and im sure your right about the other brands useing the same frame too, I actually got the rock hound frame instead of a DDG shooter
I bought a new bike in 2016 which came with a square taper BB. And it was a real bike, not a bike-shaped object. You don't have to be that old to have ridden the square taper or grip shift.
Isnt that colour the „sid blue“? But I guess the sid forks were a bit flimsy for your style of riding I remember been using green magura brake pads for the rainy season back then. Maybe ask the CT for these…? I‘d have put the hose holder thingies the other way around…so that the hose is stuck between the frame and the „c profile“ of the holder Nice build though, i love the heavy tools frames back then 😍
if the only difference between a backwards manual and a backwards wheelie is the equipment used (whether or not you have a freecoaster), than people are gatekeeping a trick behind a paywall and it can be either you decide on.
You built a pair of wheels for mine when I got back into trials years back, Echo TR rims, silver rear and blue front as I had polished forks on mine. Ran my old blue maguras on it but had to frankenstein a mount for the rear out of a new style HS33 adapter and a pair of offset Tensile mounts due to the size of the rear rim. EDIT: Found a clip I uploaded on it ua-cam.com/video/puicyW5md80/v-deo.htmlsi=9A4C1H5mXEma9yF7
Nice build Ali, I do like a full size trial frame. The last one of mine being my azonics DS3. Ran it 7 speed so I could just about ride from home to Shipley glen! I usually enjoy your build videos, but this one stood out; thank you for half an hour of wholesomeness.
I approve of CT's aesthetic choices. Well done.
The blue on the tire is just a protective coating for the white wall during shipping. Keeps them from getting dirty until the owner installs them.

Cute thief looking a bit plump, preparing for the winter hibernation?
so funny but sitting in front of The fire does have its advantages 😂😂
The plumber said he was looking chunky too! To be fair he would much rather lie in front of the fire than go run about outside! Same with CT
