  • Pleased to find this archive recording from April 1980 amongst my old tapes ~ I was a big fan of this show and this is one of my favourite yarns. Jeremy Beadle from Wikipedia: "His presenting style on the phone-in programme Nightline on LBC in London, which he hosted between September 1979 and 22 June 1980 (when he was sacked), led to a cult following. He introduced himself as Jeremy James Anthony Gibson-Beadlebum: "Jeremy James Anthony Gibson-Beadle is my name and a bum is what I am," he explained. He teased his producer as 'Butch' Bavin Cook (b. 12 June)". The Copyright remains with current holder. And by the way, the show was all from the studio ~ another Beadle joke!

I would look forward, to listening to beedle. Each night was an adventure for the mind. He led such an interesting life prior to the later tv stuff, which he became so infamous for. I wish there was a way to listen to all of his old recordings on LBC. That is something I would pay money for.

I loved Beadlebum - used to listen to him without fail. He kept me company at a time that I was very alone.

I feel I've found a long buried secret. I remember listening to this avidly - I was 14. Very amusing stuff which sadly gave way to less impacting TV work which as another person has mentioned is what he'll be remembered for. He would be held in much higher regard if he was remembered for his LBC days, that's for certain.

Such bittersweet memories. Amazing show and such a slap in the face to people who only knew his inferior TV work. Wish there was more uploaded. Particularly the quizzes about gruesome murderers.

This is great. Other people have mentioned this episode on LBC before but this is the first time I've heard it.

So cool to hear this. I remember my brother and I convincing our parents to drive all over London trying to find the location he was broadcasting from one night. It was all a hoax in the studio with sound effects.
Pick up the phone and join in the fun on three five three eight one one juan.

This is absolutely fantastic! Thanks for posting it. I used to listen to Beadlebum every week and I remember listening to the "live outside broadcast" from the "underground" and it was gripping stuff. I also recall going to see him at the Ideal Home Exhibition in March 1980 and he had his studio friend, no, not Butch, but Kurt Knobbler, his robot! Very rare and hard to find any documentary evidence and anecdotes about this but I found this pic from the creator of Kurt, Wilf Lunn: www.wilflunn.com/assets/kurt_knobbler.jpg
    Great memories...
