RTD of Denver has been operating commuter rail for a while. RTD now has Buses Commuter rail and Light Rail. The train cars are the same type as SEPTA. They're Silverliner V EMUs
They're part of the "piggyback" order between SEPTA and RTD, which is common among transit systems. Denver also "piggyback" order their light rail cars with St. Louis back in 93'.
rockies1258: There are no American companies that make electric commuter rail cars. The last one was the Budd Co. in Philadelphia, which closed its plant in 1987. These cars, however, are assembled at the Hyundai Rotem plant in Philadelphia after the steel shells are fabricated in Korea and shipped to the U.S. for assembly of all the components.
Eagle FasTracks WRONG! Bombardier has a plant in Plattsburgh, NY; Kawasaki has one in Yonkers, NY and Lincoln, Nebraska; Alstom has a plant in Hornell, NY; and Siemens has one near Sacramento, California, all staffed by Americans
waytallwhitey: Not wrong. Those companies are not American companies. Hyundai Rotem has its assembly plant in Philadelphia. All of these foreign-based rail car manufacturers have US installations to help comply with Buy America rules.
The prototype cars are being built in South Korea. This is the same as what happened for the Silverliner V order for SEPTA, a car fleet that is nearly identical to the Denver EMUs. The remainder of the order will be completed in Philadelphia.

The interior is identical to SEPTA's (except for the seating arrangement).

@@805219 Doesn’t St Louis use the SD-400, while RTD uses the SD-100?
Why South Korea and not Here in America?

I'm fully aware of where they are as I have worked in all of them as a transit authority rep; they are still employing Americans
