- Designed by John Browning and manufactured by Colt from 1903 to 1945, the 1903 Pocket Hammerless is a pretty little semi-automatic pistol chambered in .32 ACP. This particular weapon was made in 1913. We take a closer look and give it a good cleaning.

Great video. Took my Colt 32 hammerless to the range yesterday and had a nice time shooting it. It performed flawlessly. Your video helped me disassemble, clean, and reassemble it. Mine was manufactured in 1921. Keep making these very helpful videos.
Exceptional pistol at an unbelievable price. 👍An original set of grips and one magazine would cost almost as much as pop paid for the gun. Absolutely beautiful.
Just got my great grandmother’s 1903. It’s in pretty good condition. No rust, almost no pitting, only a few scratches, decently worn barrel but all in all it was a gun that was well loved both on and off the range
Picked one up from a pawn shop today for $475 No rust or pitting but the slide has a heavy brown patina. The frame still has the majority of the bluing with just a few very light scratches. Im sure I will catch hell for it but i'm sending it to Colt to have it refinished. Manufacture date is 1921
Thank you for making this video. It was very helpful with the disassembly and cleaning of my 1903 pistol. I inherited mine from my grandfather and it was made in 1925. I've shot it many times but this was my first cleaning of it. It's fun to shoot and has made a good trainer for teaching my son to shoot.
I was amazed at how close the inside of the slide looks like a 1911 slide. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for watching!
Now all we need is a shooting demo!
Thanks for the Vid - needed the help with cleaning up my Dad's 1903. Interesting point from a review I read, the original manufactured sears and hammers were all hand filed or stoned for trigger touch. It said that when US Armament Corp bought, measured and tested 100+ weapons to start remanufacture, they found that almost 100% of the guns drop fired. I'll try to update with a link to the review if I can find it. I thought that was a good "shooters beware" point. Otherwise, I've fired my Dad's 1903 and it is a sweet firing pistol.
I just stumbled onto your video after looking for a video of anyone with a 32ACP French unique model 17 my grandfather left me one and no clue how to disassemble it for cleaning and replacing the firing pin but now i really want a colt 1903 after watching lol
I inherited one of these the other day from my grandparents. Manuf. 1918. Beautiful gun!
Those "Deals" are out there. I picked a 1903 32acp made in 1905 in about 90% condition for $400.
🇺🇸📬 - One of America's influential U.S. Army Generals. And Ground Comander of the D -day Normady invasion (General Bradley 🇺🇸) Very nice fire arm mechanical identification, and proccess demonstration. - This was a Well done, and Outstanding firearm strip down. -Thank you Bradley. 😎🍺🍺🍺☕☕📬👍
Thanks for watching!
my grandpa has one from 1919, this video will be very helpful when its cleaning time! Thank you
two of my favorite guns the colt series 70 and the 1903 vest pocket hammerless from a collector point of view
As a boy i remember having a poster of a 1911 nickle plated version which included how to strip the gun down. I've always loved John Browning designed guns unfortunately here in the UK you need a licence for a sharpened pencil .
One of the other guns i've alway been interested in is the 'Martini-Henry' rifle used by the British army first entering service in 1871 and used for about 30 years, its one of those (although there are many ) iconic guns.IIt's amazing that it's in that good condition especially the grips which tend to discolour over time and a fairly brittle I doubt its been fired much looking at the cleaning.
Cheers Brad very enjoyable indeed i find these videos very relaxing, probably because i'm weird.
The Martini-Henry is a very cool old rifle. I've seen some for sale locally.
32 ACP Rules!
Great pickup!
I have a type 1 manufactured 1904. Had to restore it because it was rusted and damaged. Now it is my ccw .
Very nice bit of kit.
Nice find!!!
Beautiful pistol!
Hi Bradley,
Thanks so much for the detailed but easy to follow cleaning instructions!
I just picked up a 1903 from a friend who owed me some money.
I just checked out your channels posts and it turns out that we might be "brothers from different mothers"... LOL!
I tend to call myself a "G-MAN" ( God, guns, guitars, & girls.) Ha!
I do love to relax with a good smoke from either a pipe or cigar too!
Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and I love your channel...
God bless and take care...
P.S.: new sub her my friend...
late comment , i also picked up my 1903 at a pawn shop friday for 400 bucks , great video and helpfull thanks
Beautiful classic Gun and way better than 1910 FN 7,65
Great video. My father had 2 of these. I notice one seems to be missing the extractor. Both are slightly different size as well. I have found some of his paperwork, but haven’t determined years yet.
My great grandmother bought one in 1919 and 101 years later it is still in great condition
Welch schönes Exemplar. Und das von 1913!
if that really is the original finish, that's a very good specimen for sure. You don't have to look very hard to see where the Russians got their inspiration for the Tokarev!
They weren't shy about "borrowing" design elements from Browning.
Found one in the pawn shop across from where I work for $450. It’s nickel plated but it’s in bad shape. I looked up the serial # and it was made in 1920. I debated over the weekend and couldn’t get it off my mind. Went in at lunch on Monday and bought it. Now I’m debating about the nickel plate. I know some old nickel plate guns where the finish is in bad shape, you can do more damage trying to clean them. Any ideas would be welcomed.
Thanks for this ! I inherited my Dads 1903, made in 1925, nickel finish. this was always his carry gun when we went on family trips etc. I have not fired it yet, need to buy ammo plus I wanted to watch something like this to familiarize myself with the gun,assembly/disassembly and cleaning etc. also is the ballistol safe for a nickel finish as well? Again thank you for the very informative video brother !... Clay
Man the luck on your dad, he needs to buy a lottery ticket!
32's are FUN to shoot...my fav is the Walther PPK; maybe the coolest 32...
James Bond would agree.
I read an article in which the author did a little research and testing, and basically said it really takes 2 shots to stop a person intending you harm no matter what caliber you use, so "big bore" doesn't get you any added protection in that regard.
Not sure if I entirely buy that, I'm still a fan of larger calibers and consider the 9mm a minimum size and power, but since very few people can guarantee a totally disabling shot with any certainty it does make some sense.
Of course none of that's related to the fun of going to a shooting range or popping tin cans and no doubt this gun would be a pleasure to shoot. :)
The reason for the double tap.
What oil are you using in the needle nose squirt bottle? Is it just more Ballistol?
Great video, thanks for posting. Do you have a link to the colt site that you were able to date your firearm? I have my dads 1903 and would like more information on its DOM. Thanks!
Great video!
Even better if you drink every time he says Ballistol! =P
Need some more gun vids !
Hey Bradley, I missed your Q&A video, but I was wondering if you would ever do a video of tobacco reviews for people who have no idea what to smoke. i don't know if I would rather smoke a mild flavor or a bold, a sweet or a bitter, a flake or a ribbon or anything else. Could you help me out?
It's always tough to recommend tobaccos to people. You need to try a wide variety of blends to see what you like personally.
From 1903-1911 they were all separate barrel bushing, the high polish blue was available from 1903-1912 or 1913, they discontinued it cause the military complained about enemies being able to see the light reflecting off the firearm thus giving away strategic positions
Do you know of a complete disassembly video I have one of these that was my great grand fathers and i need to replace the main spring in the grip safety that is broken but not sure how to get the slide safety out to get the hammer out to change the springs
There's got to be one somewhere on UA-cam.
I completely restored mine. My grip safety spring was broke and you can find them . But beware it is a chore to put back together. I acomplished this , it took me several weeks of trying to put it back together. It's my ccw now and it's priceless to me . And yes there are videos out there and you will need to watch all of them to get it right.
I just fixed one of these where the firing pin snapped off right at the base and when I test fired it is was instantly smitten with the little gun, I wish I could afford to buy it but I'm also working on a ruby that is surprising similar and in the right price range
Question: how do you tell if this gun is cocked and ready to fire? Since it's hammer is concealed and is not visible, how do you determine if the gun is cocked or not? Is there some kind of cocking indicator, like on one it's predecessors, Browning M1900?
If I remember correctly, there is.
First time I've ever notice your thumbs, Brad. Do you have brachydactyly?
Nope. They're actually quite long. They are rather callused though.
Have one that slide lock is worn and sometime slams shut. What can be done.
Ahh... how I love the smell of burnt gunpowder... almost as much as I love the smell of a good pipe tobacco!
Damn that's a beautiful pistol
Probably a lot of these haven't had that many rounds through them. Most Of the ware would be on the outside. Mine is from 1920. The only problem I have with it is it'll sometimes double fire. It's not a true hammerless, it's got an internal Hammer, instead of an external one.I noticed on mine there's an indentation on the face of the hammer, from a hundred years of the hammer hitting the pin. I see no way to avoid that wear pattern happening.
now we're talkin'
That’s a gorgeous gun,I’ve been wanting one for years. It’s also the same gun John Dillinger had on him when the FBI killed him. Pretty cool piece of history right there. Great video man.
I just bought one some guy found it in the ditch and sold it for 20 bucks I came in and paid 70 it’s beat to shit I may have to change out the original slide and barrel as well as the slide release
Also the gun Dillinger was carrying when shot outside the Biograph (well, the .380, close enough). Great find by dad!
Yep. They found one in his pocket.
Actually, the weapon in the FBI Museum that was taken from Dillinger when he was killed, was a Colt 1908 in .380 acp, the sister of the 1903 in .32 acp.
I like I like.
she's a beaut!
your dad is one lucky man Bradley
Where would be a good place to sell my Colt 1903
Email me at payafrank692@gmail.com
Exactly same pistol we have in pakistan same dates are mentioned on it
Mine was stoled thirty something years ago. I still greive
Nice vid, thanks.
Bakelite is a plastic product not rubber based.
Very nice find. When ya going to shoot it!!!!!
That's up to my dad. I'm not sure if he intends to fire it or not.
It is interesting that Washington state is a blue liberal state. And is the home for U.S. Army Ft. Lewis, home of the Striker and 3rd Ranger Batt. Which Probably has no barring on that fact. -nice 🇺🇸👍.
I miss the little one i have on the time...
I miss every day that baby
All the best Macedonia. EU.
COLTS MK IV/SERIES 70
What would cause this
Sorry what would cause 1909 pocket 32 to fire fully auto on occasion, six or seven rounds on the second round fired
A french army officers version never been fired
Well done, thats the pistol I want in my 32acp collection! You have it in top condition too! Gen. Patton kept one, he used to say for use among “polite society“. There is a replica new model you can buy from usarmamentcorp.com for $1000. Its beautiful to behold, ...if its not pointing at you😉
Infomercial for gun cleaner😕
That is definitely not original finish. Not worth the thousand you would hope. Definitely worth under 500 though... probably a good buy
What makes you say so? I'd say it almost certainly is the original finish. Refinished examples almost always have the sharp edges rounded off and the lettering is thin from polishing.
It's original
.380 was the 1908
+Bryan Olson - Yup. Exactly same design but chambered in .380. I think I might have said 38 in the video though. Can't remember.
If you're still looking for one, I know of one for sale.....
Could you email me at payafrank692@gmail.com
Bro arrow which you saw is not the same as mine. Will send you picture on your mail or give your WhatsApp number.
Mines just the same but it's a 380acp an i got it for free, the mother in law didnt want it in her house so she gave it to me.
ill give u tree fiddy for it
