Blind Date Book Club has become my favorite (non-Christmas) Hallmark movie in a while; I can't tell you how many times I've (re)watched it. It's refreshing to see a couple actually liking, and being nice to each other. Sarcastic bickering isn't for me, but their sweet banter was so lovely. 🥰
They did have nice chemistry together
I don't think Blind Date Book Club was negative about the book club feedback at all. In fact, Robert Buckley's character APPRECIATED THE HONEST FEEDBACK. He mentioned how lately people were just giving him "it's good" or "it's terrible" and that wasn't helpful. There were a couple scenes in the movie where he said about the book club's feedback and Erin's character's feedback, "That's the best feedback I've gotten in a long time." Erin's character helped him reevaluate his purpose as an author and remember why he got started. And in fact, in the end he chose to write more in his series instead of doing the historical epic romance. He thought his YA series wasn't "important enough" before. In the moment, the feedback of his new book was hard to hear, but he definitely said he appreciated it.
The true conflict (which could have been written better) had to do with Erin's character blurting out that she was going to sell, plus the radio person figuring out Robert Buckley's character's real identity. Erin's character and her friend knew who he was from the beginning but no one else in town did. For some reason Erin's character felt a lot of pressure at that last gathering and suddenly told everybody she was going to sell the bookstore. And she and Robert Buckley already had feelings for each other but she pushed him away after the "announcement" so he thought she was going back to Boston. Until she cleared the air after the commercial break, that is.
I liked Erin and Robert's chemistry and banter together, and I enjoyed Erin's friend and seeing Johannah. But I can see where you are coming from, and how all the elements could have worked better, especially the conflict, which kind of felt "tacked on." I personally enjoyed the movie though.
Thanks for your comment. I admit it had been a couple weeks since I saw it. I guess the conflict was just Will she sell or not and does he want to reveal who he is. He seemed upset at the book club but maybe that was more the reality of it rather than being offended. It's just frustrating when something has so many good ingredients but it can't come together. The challenges of making a movie. Thanks for listening
Of course they released the Tipline summary yesterday lol
Easter Bloom had all sorts of execution issues but the story was good overall.
Blind Date Book Club's had promise but felt only 80% complete or something.
Lost Locket was a pretty typical searching movie, and Viv was channeling Fincher Garland but it was pretty middling.
... Niagara was pretty annoying all the way around, and all the GoPro activity footage felt like a production shortcut.
Branching Out was pretty great. My favorite on both channels in 2024 (OK, that's not a high bar this year). Much better than My Christmas Family Tree.
I am sick of immature conflict just to have conflict. I loved it. Not every movie has to have conflict.
I mean you need some plot. Something to happen to the characters. Doesn't mean it has to be immature
Easter Bloom and Blind Date Bookclub ftw in this Spring outing, which was underwhelming to say the least.
It really was! Glad you appreciated Easter Blooms too!
I agree with your assessments of all of the movies.
As for branching out, my first thought when it started with the DNA research and looking for him was no, just no. This is supposed to be anonymous, and no personal connection.
Also, as much as I like Juan Pablo, he was too old for the part. He is 45 years old and he’s playing a struggling musician. And, when he was explaining why he donated, he said he was young and I think he said he needed the money. When you take that with the struggling musician part I really think he was just too old. I am thinking maybe someone around mid 30s would’ve been a better fit for the narrative.
I love Juan Pablo‘s voice. On Fuller house he saying sunrise Sunset with just a guitar and singing about his daughter growing up. It was really beautiful.
That's a good point about the age. I hadn't thought of it that way but agree
Unfortunately, I think this has been one of the weakest Spring Into Love programming seasons we've seen. Couldn't agree more about the Niagara movie...ufff...that was a hard watch. Also can confirm, the Canadian side of the Falls is the nicer side (we're obviously biased!) :)
It's such a bummer because usually one of the best seasons
