I just stumbled upon your channel after listening to Tam Lin by Pentangle. You have a pure and honest channel throwing your voice to the wind! I once was performing Barbara Allen to a crowd of around 100 and ...forgot the words after the first three stanzas...and made up the rest to a round of applause. Still makes me laugh after 15 years. I may have to try adding some of my music to some of my history related videos as you've inspired me. Frank Harte used to say that a song is a frozen ghost on a page waiting for a living voice to give it life... until the song ends ...and it becomes a ghost again! I love what you're doing, and you've inspired me! Happy Holidays and good luck with your channel in '24!
Oh that is a BRILLIANT comment. I have done similar myself once before. We were playing at a music festival thing and completley forgot the last verse of a song - made it up on the spot VERY quickly indeed!! Thank you and glad you are inspired
Wow! The only version I know is massively simplified compared to this. In my version, we dont get to know the mans name who dies, or where. Also, the red rose grows on barbaras grave and williams, a briar.... And no lovers knot! (the version I know is sung by frank turner)
Oh that is interesting - I will look up that version. My sis and I have just realised we can do it on the harp so look out for that soon. I love this song
This is one of but a few ballads that I do like, the combination of tune and lyrics (and your dulcet tones) engages my attention, though generally I’m not a ballad person. But regarding the subject matter, I do like and sing Tom Waites’ “The briar and the rose”
Wonderful folk voice.😄😄😄😄👍👍❤❤❤❤❤
I am from the US and I love England. I would love to visit there. I love the accents of English Ladies and your voice&singing is beautiful! ❤😊
Ah thanks. Is indeed a beautiful land
lovely voice...
Hail the folk
A strange beauty lies in sad songs such as this, very touching. What a fantastic repository of cultural wealth we have in these islands.
I almost enjoy singing the sad ones the most
Aye!

Brought a tear to my eye. A lovely song, beautifully sung.
Thank you 🙏
Such a breathtaking beautiful, impromptu performance of one of my favorite traditional songs. Subscribed.
