I agree. It was John's group that the others were invited to join. He was their dominant force, in the early going. Probably my favorite rock singer of all time. There are only two Beatles albums where I actually love every song, this and a Hard Day's Night (the latter gets my vote for best 'pop' album ever) so I'll accept no hatred towards either a Taste of Honey or my beloved Boys (which was on a b-side of one of my Mum's stack of Beatles 45s and I always loved it...you'll find me less gracious towards Ringo-led songs in (some) future instalments tho, ha!!). As for ranking the tracks...erm, no chance, props to anyone who can manage such a feat!
14. Boys 13. Baby It's You 12. Anna 11. Love Me Do 10. Ask Me Why 9. P.S I Love You 8. Chains 7. I Saw Her Standing There 6. Twist And Shout 5. Please Please Me 4. A Taste Of Honey 3. Do You Want To Know A Secret 2. There's A Place 1. Misery Some of this is due to "song burnout" from hearing 7 to 5 too many times.
14 - "A Taste Of Honey" 13 - "Ask Me Why" 12 - "Chains" 11 - "Do You Want To Know A Secret?" 10 - "P.S. I Love You" 9 - "Love Me Do" 8 - "Misery" 7 - "Anna (Go To Him)" 6 - "Baby, It's You" 5 - "Boys" 4 - "There's A Place" 3 - "I Saw Her Standing There" 2 - "Please Please Me" 1 - "TWIST AND SHOUT"
Interesting... We have the same top and bottom: 14. A Taste of Honey 13. Misery 12. P.S. I Love You 11. Chains 10. Anna (Go to Him) 9. Do You Want to Know a Secret 8. There's a Place 7. Love Me Do 6. Boys 5. Ask Me Why 4. Baby It's You 3. Twist and Shout 2. Please Please Me 1. I Saw Her Standing There "I Saw Her Standing There" was my introduction to The Beatles, so it's very fitting that it's opening their first album.
Yes, i agree with your general ratings. I think the top two are between "Twist And Shout" and "I Saw Her Standing There". At a push I would probably put "I Saw Her Standing There" at no 1, too. As well as Paul's vocal, it has a real edge instrumentally, and, of course, was one they'd written themselves. Yes, John was the dominant Beatle in the early days, no doubt.
PS: I don't remember all the marks I gave the Fab tunes on Please Please Me during the aforementioned Twitch listening party, but here's my own Top 5 from the album for what it's worth, in reverse order: v) 'Boys' - I know, I know...but heck, I've always been a Ringo guy at heart, and this is a fun little rocker, yes? iv) 'Please Please Me' - I remember being blown away by this tune when I first heard it on the Red Album, if for no other reason than it was in Stereo for some reason, while the rest of the compilation was in Mono...regardless, it's still Fab stuff, yes? iii) 'Love Me Do' - I rank this tune so highly partly for historical reasons as the Beatles' first hit, and partly because it's just so much simple, refreshing fun to listen to...especially John's harmonica, yes? ii) 'I Saw Her Standing There'- this iconic rocker is one heckuva groovy way to open an album, especially with Paul's legendary '1234' signal - shades of the second greatest band in the world, the Ramones, yes? i) 'Twist and Shout' - total bias on my part, as watching this tune on a documentary about the Royal Variety Performance way back when was what first got me hooked on the Fab Four in the first place; which in turn got me hooked on you guys many moons later thanks to your Beatles reviews, which in turn led me to the sheer overwhelming fun and love of music that is the RTTC community...so, to cut a long story short, let's just say that this one really means a lot to me, yes...?! Hwyl until tomorrow's livestream...should be fun as usual...I've got a K-On! vs Batmetal Song Battle planned that I think you guys will really dig(!)...so until then, here's that Twist and Shout clip I mentioned at ua-cam.com/video/vFUzIP0_rWU/v-deo.html - enjoy, yes?!
My Ranking (from the least to the best, because I love all songs on here) 14. A Taste Of Honey 13. Chains 12. Boys 11. Love Me Do 10. Anna (Go To Him) 09. There’s A Place 08. Baby It’s You 07. Do You Want To A Secret 06. I Saw Her Standing There 05. Misery 04. Twist And Shout 03. Please Please Me 02. P.S. I Love You 01. Ask Me Why
This was Fab and a lot of fun as expected, as was the Twitch listening party...really looking forward to doing the rest of the Beatles discography with you guys like this...a couple of loving suggestions going forward if I may, yes? a) I know you guys weren't sure about whether to cover Yellow Submarine or not, which is fair enough considering how few Beatles songs proper are on the original album...but if you don't, that means we'll be missing out on the glorious 'It's All Too Much', which for me at least is unthinkable(!)...so perhaps you could add the Beatles tunes from the album to your 'Magical Mystery Tour' vid as a sort of joint video or something...that, or listen to the Yellow Submarine Songtrack from 1999, which includes all of the Beatles tunes which show up in the movie - 15 in all - instead, yes...? b) Would it be at all possible to add the 'Live at the Hollywood Bowl' album to these ranking vids in due course, or to at least have it as a bonus Twitch listening party...it'd be almost like being at our own private Fab Four gig for RTTC, yes...?! Keep up the groovy work, and remember...the Fabbest is yet to come...so Hwyl for now...but ONLY for now, yes...?!
Not sure how we will handle Yellow Sub yet. On Live at the Hollywood Bowl we wouldnt rank but maybe a listening party. Or more likely a proper review at some point. Thanks Evan David always appreciate you!
Excellent analysis guys. Much appreciated. Btw, I inherited the ‘twist and shout’ EP in the late 60s (twist an shout, a taste of honey, there’s a place, do you want to know a secret) - and to this day, the latter two tracks are two of my favourite Beatles songs. Just goes to show how subjective taste is. Keep doing what you’re doing, and never forget what they say about subjectivity: ‘I’m right, you’re wrong’ Love and peace, from across the pond. 👍
Great video guys. My personal ranking would be: 14. "A Taste of Honey" - terrible song. Sorry Paul. Hate it. 13. "There's a Place" - I find this song quite boring personally. I always skip it. 12. "Ask Me Why" - eh 11. "Chains" - boring but not as boring as the other three I placed lower. 10. "Boys" - this song is super goofy but Ringo's charm makes up for it. 9. "Love Me Do" - this song is slightly overrated but good song. 8. "Do You Want to Know a Secret" - catchy track. Did not realise it was a #2 hit. That's nuts. 7. "P.S. I Love You" - underrated track. McCartney gives a great vocal performance. 6. "Twist and Shout" - excellent and raw vocal performance. 5. "Baby It's You" - beautiful R&B/pop song. 4. "Please Please Me" - knowing what this song is actually about, I find this song funny. 3. "Misery" - very catchy guitar melody. Only criticism is that I wish this song was longer LOL! 2. "I Saw Her Standing There" - super catchy and the bass work is pretty complicated for the times. 1. "Anna (Go to Him)" - I think this is one of Lennon's best vocal performances across his entire career.
Excellent idea and show. 👍😃 I think both of your lists are very close to mine so can't really add much on that aspect. I also agree that your original ratings for the first few albums were probably a bit too high.
Fun idea! Before I start, let me guess, Taste of Honey is at the bottom... (I really like it, actually, but I know you guys don't - we're going to be disagreeing a lot about Paul's "granny music", I think).. Please Please Me for best, I saw Her Standing There, maybe? Anyway, this album always reminds me of one of the best jokes in The Rutles: "their first album took 22 minutes to record, the second one took even longer!" And... Heh. Got #14 right. Interesting picks for #10, I would rate both quite a bit higher. PPM at #3 for Trey and #2 for Shawn? But hey, I Saw Her Standing There at #1 for both of you so not far off! Nice job, guys, I may quibble here and there but their first two albums are hard to rank: the best stuff really stands out, there are 1 or 2 weak songs and the rest are all pretty much interchangeable. And yeah, I think even Paul would agree about John ruling the early albums. And yes, things got much better but, man, the energy and, yup, sense of pure, innocent joy on their early records are pretty much unmatched. It always makes me laugh when people call the Beatles music "old" because, man, there is probably no more youthful albums on the planet than Please Please Me/ With the Beatles/ A Hard Days Night.
Great job,I have enjoyed it. I know it has nothing to do with this video, but are you guys going to see "The Beatles: Get Back"documentary by Peter Jackson? I guess so,right? 🤣
Can you guys react to a band who everyone at the time thought they were the next BEATLES,the song is I ONLY WANNA BE WITH YOU BY THE BAY CITY ROLLERS,official music video, thank you.
Thank you for your reactions. Two thoughts to share: One, did "There's a Place" (released in March ,1963) have any influence on The Beach Boys "In My Room" (released October, 1963)? Maybe geniuses think alike. Second, you may have underestimated "P.S., I Love You" based upon a video I recently discovered (ua-cam.com/video/LabpmbWfSPQ/v-deo.html). Keep up the good work!
We always say that is the beauty of music, something for everyone but everything is not for everyone. The Beatles are by far our all-time favorite BUT that said we believe it is neither logical or rational to say on our part that every one of their songs is great. This is not the channel for you if you are looking for overhyped reactions and analysis. Thanks John
A taste of Honey is an epic beautiful song .. I don’t get why people don’t see how amazing it is 🤷🏻♂️

I'm looking forward to the rest of these! John really carried the early Beatles but I'm with you guys on your #1
Thanks Shane!
I just came home from school and I was making a video for the lower school and I used like 5 seconds of Please Please Me in it.
Haha great minds think alike Jack!
I guess so.

Nice list thanks for sharing!
This comment is a perfect example that everyone is wrong every once in a while :) and I am NOT talking about us, honey on
A Hard Day’s Night is my favourite album, but I think the first two are the most even. Not one track I would skip on either.

Totally understand the burnout. Thanks for sharing!

1. I Saw Her Standing There
"I Saw Her Standing There" was my introduction to The Beatles, so it's very fitting that it's opening their first album.
Nice list. And great intro to them for sure. Thanks!
Thanks Jedikiah, stay safe!
Shawn me and you have the same top 5. Very difficult in the top 2 since I’m a really big fan of the harmonica in please please me
Agreed this one was tough, heck all of them are!
PS: I don't remember all the marks I gave the Fab tunes on Please Please Me during the aforementioned Twitch listening party, but here's my own Top 5 from the album for what it's worth, in reverse order:
v) 'Boys' - I know, I know...but heck, I've always been a Ringo guy at heart, and this is a fun little rocker, yes?
iv) 'Please Please Me' - I remember being blown away by this tune when I first heard it on the Red Album, if for no other reason than it was in Stereo for some reason, while the rest of the compilation was in Mono...regardless, it's still Fab stuff, yes?
iii) 'Love Me Do' - I rank this tune so highly partly for historical reasons as the Beatles' first hit, and partly because it's just so much simple, refreshing fun to listen to...especially John's harmonica, yes?
ii) 'I Saw Her Standing There'- this iconic rocker is one heckuva groovy way to open an album, especially with Paul's legendary '1234' signal - shades of the second greatest band in the world, the Ramones, yes?
i) 'Twist and Shout' - total bias on my part, as watching this tune on a documentary about the Royal Variety Performance way back when was what first got me hooked on the Fab Four in the first place; which in turn got me hooked on you guys many moons later thanks to your Beatles reviews, which in turn led me to the sheer overwhelming fun and love of music that is the RTTC community...so, to cut a long story short, let's just say that this one really means a lot to me, yes...?!
Great list Evan David! Great reasoning to, love it!
My Ranking (from the least to the best, because I love all songs on here)
14. A Taste Of Honey
13. Chains
12. Boys
11. Love Me Do
10. Anna (Go To Him)
09. There’s A Place
08. Baby It’s You
07. Do You Want To A Secret
06. I Saw Her Standing There
05. Misery
04. Twist And Shout
03. Please Please Me
02. P.S. I Love You
01. Ask Me Why
A lot different then ours which just further illustrates the great quality of their stuff! Thanks Jack!
Keep doing what you’re doing, and never forget what they say about subjectivity: ‘I’m right, you’re wrong’
Love and peace, from across the pond. 👍
haha thanks! So true about subjectivity and especially is applicable with The Beatles were so much stuff is great!
Please do more solo Beatles reviews. Your videos are very enjoyable
Hopefully at some point this year. Thanks!
Great video guys. My personal ranking would be:
14. "A Taste of Honey" - terrible song. Sorry Paul. Hate it.
13. "There's a Place" - I find this song quite boring personally. I always skip it.
12. "Ask Me Why" - eh
Great list and enjoyed your thoughts on each. Thanks!
John led em early Paul led em late...best duo ever
Exactly!
Everything they have done is very great music!!!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent idea and show. 👍😃 I think both of your lists are very close to mine so can't really add much on that aspect. I also agree that your original ratings for the first few albums were probably a bit too high.
Thanks for watching Slayde Said!
More Beatles videos!
Oh don't worry we are back on it, many more to come. Thanks!
Love chains
Beauty of music something for everyone but everyone is not going to love everything haha
@@ReactionsToTheClassics yeah I know what you mean. I’m not a fan of I’m only sleeping and everybody else seems to be
Fun idea! Before I start, let me guess, Taste of Honey is at the bottom... (I really like it, actually, but I know you guys don't - we're going to be disagreeing a lot about Paul's "granny music", I think).. Please Please Me for best, I saw Her Standing There, maybe? Anyway, this album always reminds me of one of the best jokes in The Rutles: "their first album took 22 minutes to record, the second one took even longer!"
And...
That last comment is so well put! Thanks Ilan and hey A Taste of Honey got a lot of love on the livestream.
Are you going to do a ranking of the non album singels later?
When we get to Past Masters since they are on there. Thanks Martin!
@@ReactionsToTheClassics Great!🌟
Great job,I have enjoyed it.
I know it has nothing to do with this video, but are you guys going to see "The Beatles: Get Back"documentary by Peter Jackson?
I guess so,right? 🤣
Been looking forward to it! Hopefully it is released in September as scheduled. Thanks Miguel!
Can you guys react to a band who everyone at the time thought they were the next BEATLES,the song is I ONLY WANNA BE WITH YOU BY THE BAY CITY ROLLERS,official music video, thank you.
Really appreciate the suggestion and thanks for watching Frank!
Thanks guesswho!
Anna is my favorite. Any chance of reviewing the two BBC albums?
At some point we will review them, won't rank them like this because we haven't reviewed them but yes maybe some time this year. Thanks Kevin!
One, two, three, FAWR!!!
Thanks for Watching!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks!
Stinkers? One man's stinker is another man's favorite song. I'd take any one of these "stinkers' over a lot of the "hits" of today.
Thanks John
I hate love me do
lol ok
