this is like a mixture of a peaceful quiet bliss and nolstagic sadness that you get on random days, and all you do is zone off into your own little world
Saw her open up for First Aid Kit last week. Wow. What a performer. And just, yes, gives you faith in music and I challenge you not to want to be her friend after seeing her. A lovely presence.
I love u so much Julia. I meant it. Thanks for all you have done and your gift. It's not wasted. You songs and voice gave me peace. Everything u put out is the best. I appreciate your hard work and thoughts you've been putting in it all. Please never stop sharing your gift 💖
Lyrics: It might make for good TV The grieving process for all to see But I don't want my fathers ashes Scattered over strangers couches And it might make for a fun night in if I Wore a dress and slept with him But I really hate showing my legs Even when the Sydney summer begs me Come on now your roots are showing Unlike hands your hair keeps growing Oh now love you could keep on dyeing I think the truth is more age defying And in the day when it turned dark We were just two shelves apart When we realised, it's not right You are not in a garden, you are in a store A single stemmed rose reaching out for more Did it come as a great shock When your third love said hey you're not Gonna get his heart to beat by Laying offerings at his feet And in the day when it turned dark We were two cages apart When we realised, it's not right You are not in the wild, you are in a pen A forgotten sow wondering when you can run
it might make for good tv the grieving process, for all to see but i don't want my fathers ashes scattered over strangers couches and it might make for a fun night in if i wore a dress and slept with him but i really hate showing my legs even when the sydney summer begs me come on now, your roots are showing unlike hands, your hair keeps growing oh now love, you could keep on dying i think the truth is more age defying and in the day, when it turned dark we were just two shelves apart when we realized it's not right you are not in a garden you are in a store a single stemmed rose reaching out for more did it come as a great shock when your third love said hey you're not going to get his heart to beat by laying offerings at his feet and in the day when it turned dark we were two cages apart when we realized it's not right you are not in the wild you are in a pen a forgotten sow wondering when you can run
To me it’s about someone close to you dying and the fact that although Hollywood romanticizes death it’s not something you want just anyone to know about. It’s something you’re vulnerable about, “it might make for good tv the grieving process for all to see but I don’t want my fathers ashes scattered over strangers couches” resonates with me because I don’t let many know about my loss. It’s not something I want people to use as a means of entertainment..... when she says “you are not in a garden you are in a store, a single stemmed rose reaching out for more”, I personally take it as though many want to tell us our loved ones have moved to something better there’s no way to truly know if there even is “another side” ...., “you are not in the wild you are in a pen , a forgotten sow wondering when you can run” to me is the same situation.... we don’t know what happens to them...we don’t even know if they still exist in anyway shape or form or if they even remember those still living. “Did it come as a great shock as your third love said hey you’re not going to get his heart to beat by laying offerings at his feet” , to me is an example of how letting someone into your world of pain can prove detrimental as many are insensitive to grief. Opening up about something life changing such as death can be overwhelming as you’re giving someone absolute power to completely disrespect your unique take on the situation. We all experience death eventually..... how we handle it is special to us in a way. Using the symbolism of “ two shelves apart.” Then progressing into “two cages apart” to me means that as time progresses without them your thoughts still feel the same except you begin to feel even more disconnected with the individual whose gone... as time goes on you forget the certain features on their face, or the sound of their voice making you feel further and further detached from someone who once held so much importance to you. Art is open for interpretation though. There are no right or wrong answers. You take from it what YOU want to take from it and that is the best thing about it. :)
just julia voice without the music or the lyrics would be enough,so how about you add the three at their most perfect levels...i don't know what to say, just thanks🔥⚡❤
The video, to me, is about disconnection. When he talks she doesn't listen. He hugs her with eyes closed while she sips on her drink with eyes open. Travelling is a distraction. They're on a vacation that feels dull, the colors are dull, the room is dull and full of old people watching TV and numbing themselves. She hugs a fan at 1:16. It says "Island breeze". She wants real breeze, real affection but she cannot connect: "you are not in a garden you are in a store a single stemmed rose reaching out for more" At 2:12 it's just heartbreaking how they're "two cages appart" and so out of touch. She breaks the fourth wall at 2:49 for the first and only time in the video while she says the word "run". She looks at the camera. It's like she wakes up and realizes her situation and that's when she "runs". The next scene at 2:52 we see her playing guitar while he talks to her, and it's also the loudest part of the song. It's like she's trying to drown out reality once she had that moment of connection at 2:49. She runs away from it. At 3:07 she sips on that drink in front of a gas station: anywhere she goes or runs to will taste the same, it looks the same. She's looking once again away from the camera. She's numbing herself again. She could also just be thinking about getting away while she's in this claustrophobic place: "you are not in the wild you are in a pen , a forgotten sow wondering when you can
run" What stands out to me the most is the contrast of the scenery with her bright hawaiian dress and drink and how it all feels like watching the sad reality behind an amazingly fake travelling comercial. Its one of my favorite music videos for sure. Depending on the day I can cry or laugh to it.

"But I really hate showing my legs
Even when the Sydney summer begs me..."
I just really like this line
In my book, one of the best intros of all time. So powerful, so concise. Spot on Julia.
I'm not crying at work. That would be weird.
You makes me feels sad, happy, calm all sort of emotions in one. You the real one Julia 💞

Adorable voice, I love you Julia from Argentina!
Lyrics:
It might make for good TV
The grieving process for all to see
But I don't want my fathers ashes
Scattered over strangers couches
And it might make for a fun night in if I
Wore a dress and slept with him
But I really hate showing my legs
Even when the Sydney summer begs me
Come on now your roots are showing
Unlike hands your hair keeps growing
Oh now love you could keep on dyeing
I think the truth is more age defying
And in the day when it turned dark
We were just two shelves apart
When we realised, it's not right
You are not in a garden, you are in a store
A single stemmed rose reaching out for more
Did it come as a great shock
When your third love said hey you're not
Gonna get his heart to beat by
Laying offerings at his feet
And in the day when it turned dark
We were two cages apart
When we realised, it's not right
You are not in the wild, you are in a pen
A forgotten sow wondering when you can run

Where can I watch it?
Pictured: Julia Jacklin with her biggest fan (2017)
That blue thing looks delicious.
I'm sure it's Gatorade tho
I wonder if there's a deeper meaning behind her wearing the same pair of socks and shoes all the time.
yeah mate, the nearest Target is a suburb away

Inés Adam reading your comment gave me clarity. Spot on. Thanks.

Inés Adam That’s a hell of an analysis. Are you the director?
