It is pointless really. The bleach will eat through it no matter what. Its best to start with a naturally oily scalp to protect your scalp. Bleaching your hair with and without oil on it will still be damaging. You can use bonding agents with bleach in order to protect the hair a bit. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @ooohlaa13

@@mackofalltrades3155 he recommends BlondMe which already has bonding agents in it ... I was using all the Olaplex products and it was so hard to get from dyed mahogany color over grey out of my hair it took 3 sessions and I am 90% grey/white underneath the dye. Ellebangs channel says that the Olaplex product use makes bleaching more difficult. I once had a hairdresser who like you says dirty hair ok the bleach cuts through everything??? So many inconsistencies, since not every one can pay hundreds of dollars (after she did highlights and streaks which came out orange, One hairdresser quoted me $1200!!!!) because of my dye, and fine hair, we have to try to sort this out for ourselves. Thanx to some fine tutorials I now cut and silver/lavender my own hair and get compliments every time I am out in the world for a year now. So here’s what I’ve learned: section the hair into quadrants, take thin subsections and saturate the subsections with product (20 volume developer mixed with bleach low and slow approach), avoid the roots-initially, place product on the roots, once the desired color to the lengths have been achieved. Hair towards the roots processes faster from scalp heat. Conversely, tone the roots first and avoid the lengths until the roots have reached a certain level of toning. Tone lengths last because the hair is more porous and will tone faster than the roots. Use sufficient product to cover all strands. Hope I picked up the information correctly.

    • @2shadowcats2
      @2shadowcats2 2 роки тому +10

Also... it is very important to time the bleaching and check for lightness/signs of damage. When bleaching your own hair in sections with thin slices, be prepared to just do one section at a time. If it takes longer than 20minutes to apply bleach, you will need to rinse that section out first. Othetwise, the section you did first will be overprocessed.
For beginners...do it in 2 or 3 separate processes.(Section and bleach back of hair... let process, rinse and dry. Then do the sides afterwards...)

I have pretty dark hair & would never, ever attempt to bleach it on my own. I have the entire Olaplex line, (including the professional products bc my aunt, was a hair stylist) K18, & a lot of great hair products, but no product can fix the mess I & many others would/have made using bleach. I would much rather pay to get it done correctly rather then having to spend a lot of unnecessary money going to get a color correction! My aunt told me about a color correction she did on a one of her clients, due to her trying to bleach her hair at home. She said the girl had very thick, extremely long, dark hair, & she spent the whole day, & half of the next day (with someone helping her when possible). I know color corrections are expensive no matter what, but WOW, that one was a fortune lol & it was preventable. She also had many people come in right after absolutely destroying their hair with bleach. So yeah absolutely just go to a professional and get it done right the first time!! 💗💕

My hair was brown with gray. I used ION bleaching products with a 30 developer, 1 & 1 ratio. Left it on 40 minutes covered(in small sections) with aluminum foil. Rinse with cool water, hair turned white( like it was supposed to), then (2 days later)toned with ION's Platinum lace & RED OUT packet mixed in and 20 developer (2 parts toner & 1 part 20 -developer). My hair came out the perfect shade of platinum( do not shampoo hair right after the toning process ONLY condition),with no breakage at all. Of course, in the weeks that followed I did a lot of deep conditioning(packets of hair conditioning mask for 30 minutes) and I only shampoo and condition with NYC'S purple shampoo and conditioner. But, it's very important to have someone help you, that has a lot of patience. It's a very long process and a lot to maintain.Also....DO NOT DUE THIS PROCESS ON FRESHLY WASHED HAIR!!!!

It’s not a good idea to never cut “alter” your hair on occasion, because, on any type hair, ends can become split, frayed looking, or unhealthy after so long.
It’s like grooming the grass or shrubs, anything that grows, eventually needs grooming after awhile.
Also, facial hair, eyebrows, body hair, finger and toenails too…all need groomed.

Purple shampoo is great for keeping my colored strawberry Blonde hair from becoming too brassy (especially since I suspect I have hard water), but that's all. It isn't a toner because it doesn't penetrate the hair shaft. It will just deposit a tiny bit of tint to counter the yellowing that can occur in blonde, silver, or white hair.

@@ooohlaa13 thanks, Barbara! Yeah, I do like her but when it comes to bleaching, I guess she's stuck in the 90's 😔

I use the blonde me shampoo, conditioner and mask because of ur recommendations and I’m so happy with it. I have bleached hair(from the salon) and I can really recommend the blonde me treatment series for bleached hair

ellebangs channel also recommends blondme conditioner and mask over olaplex!!! She says olaplex makes the hair resistant to lifting in her experience. I used all the olaplex products for years and my hairdresser had a very hard time lifting my mostly grey/white dyed over with mahogany box dye. So glad to be done with box dye!!! Where do you purchase the mask and conditioner and do you also use the shampoo? I use olaplex purple and it is good shampoo.

@@ooohlaa13 yes I also use the Shampoo. I live in Germany and I get these products from a hairdresser shop here. But I guess u could order these online. Maybe on amazon?
I’ve never used olaplex in my life so I don’t have the comparison. Sometimes I think about, that I should buy and try olaplex but is nice to read about your experience. So I should stay with my blonde me treatments and stay away from olaplex.

I always make enough product for my roots when I do them (every 2 months) and when I do the whole hair (every 6 months and I use toner in between).

I used a coconut oil based hair mask after i bleached for the first time, to rehydrate it. Will the coconut oil fade from the hair? I am going slow so i have to bleach again. Just not sure if i have to use something special to remove it before i bleach again.
I started watching your videos *after* my first attempt, but have thankfully avoided a lot of mishaps because i was going for ombre and stayed the heck away from my roots. I am only now realizing how lucky i have been

So… I’m in the process of bleaching my hair. And after watching alot of Hair Buddha (one would thing I would have been scared straight but nope, I’m still crazy) I heart his voice in my head “don’t touch your roots until you are happy with the ends. Bleach the ends until it’s the colour you want first” so that is what I did, second bleach tomorrow. And honestly, best advise ever. Why rush to bleach the roots. Also using 20 vol and going slow and damn, my hair is holding up and I have controlled over the process. And I have ALOT of bleach. This midlife crisis is working in my favour so far 😂
