    If you’re anxious before work, say it out loud to your coworkers. They’re nurses, they know anxiety is real. It will help them remember to keep an eye out for you, and usually their comforting reactions help ease that anxiety anyway. Worst case scenario, they barely respond and you still got it off your chest

    I'm very excited. I'm 26 now in college. I get to meet the doctors that were part of my care in the NICU. I was born at 1 pound preemie. I fought for the first four months of life in the NICU. It will be a tearful reunion.

I’m so happy for you and good luck with your reunion!!!I reunited with my doctors and nurses who took care of me when I was a teen! It was definitely an experience then! Dear, Jessica thank you. I wish you well too. I have been having a lot of shortness of breath for a long period of time. I've made trips to the ER & Doctors office. Chest x-ray and blood work come back normal. I've lost a lot of weight unexplained I went from a healthy 140 down to 107 pounds. Over the course of months. I have no answers to it other than hypertension. But your blood pressure can raise when you're uncomfortable or out of breath. I do have a thyroid condition. But blood work from that shows normal. My dr told me to stop taking the thyroid meds just to see how it works. She is also ordering a pulmonary function test and possibly a ct scan of lungs if necessary. I would really like some answers. This short of breath a long time leaves me feeling starved of air.

Sometimes I’m so busy that I forget and when I finally do pee I say to myself damn I haven’t went in the past 6 hours. If you are in clinical rotations I wouldn’t worry about it cause your still a student. You will get lunch and pee breaks as a student so take advantage cause as an RN it wont come by so easy.

      @@PATRYAN84 Thanks for the quick response! If I have low blood sugar issues, and I need to eat every couple of hours, is that going to be an issue? like, are there really times when you can't eat all day? I get extremely light-headed, nauseous, and feel like I'm going to pass out if I go longer than 4-5 hours without anything in my system. Even a couple bites of granola or something would hold me over. Is that something that you think is possible as a nurse to work with?

    I used to be sooo anxious before shifts both as a student and a nurse.. it was so unbelievably painful. It was ghastly, truly I never thought I'd make it to be an RN because it absolutely ruined my life. I've now been working in the NICU for a year, I hadn't realised how confident I had become, until I was floated to the children's unit, that same anxiety was brewing and I ended up in tears in the medication room followed by a full on panic in the bathroom. I cant believe I used to feel like this every day. I cant believe how i am now able to go to work and not worry. I look forward to work because i know i can deal with everything that will be thrown at me (including asking someone else to help me). I cant explain the anxiety or how I got over it, but somehow slowly it went, and it's so lovely ☺☺ edit: I lied I still get really nervous when on morning shifts having to present our babies to the registrars (residents) 😂😂

    Holy shit, Im a norwegian ICU nurse. I cant image the stress a shift like this must be like. I usually do 8 hour shifts where its 1:1 care in the ICU, having several ICU patients and doing a shift as long as this with so few breaks must be exhausting. We usualluy get a 30 minute lunch break, but if the patient is stable and you dont have to do something you can sit at the computer and chill.

    Hi Ashley ❤️ thank you so much for your videos! I’m Im about to graduate and as a result of the pandemic, heaps of opportunities have popped up in Australia for grad nurses to work in critical care areas (which normally would require multiple years of post registration experience).
    I’ve worked hard to achieve a HD average in my course and am currently in the process of applying to an ICU grad job in my state’s largest hospital and major trauma hospital. It’s looking like I might get the job - and I’m starting to feel a bit like an imposter! Would love a video about dealing with this and the anxiety associated with working in critical care areas when you’re relatively inexperienced.

    It's still so funny to see, how different (in general vids) nurses/docs in the US seem to have no hygiene precautions like no jewellery, no nail polish, your scrubs stay in the hospital and get washed there and so on. Is very different here at least in the Netherlands. I would be very interested in ratio of infection and hygiene in the ICU like example a test with how clean are everyone's hands. :) No bad things meant, it just is so interesting, how things can be so different.

    Hi ashley! i've been a nurse for just over a year now. I work in a progressive care unit. Your description of your day made me wonder, do ICU nurses have nursing assistants?

    • @iMariyellerz
      @iMariyellerz 5 років тому

      Faina M. I think it depends on the hospital. I had clinicals where there are a few CNAs, but most of them that I’ve been to do not.

    • @michella23498
      @michella23498 5 років тому

      Usually, no. But ICU nurses have 1-2 patients

    • @ramosjeanette51
      @ramosjeanette51 5 років тому

      Not typically. 1-2 patients makes it much easier to stay on top of cleaning, emptying foleys, taking vitals (which are on automatically recorded every hour, or depending what you set your monitor to), etc.

      Viri Stark that is generally the norm, at least in the hospital setting. Most jobs are 3 12’s unless you work in an outpatient setting.

    • @bettysmith7045
      @bettysmith7045 4 роки тому

      Roxanne most ICUs have a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on how critical the patient is. You could also have up to 3:1 if your patients are all more stable.

      Adriana Toledo I been a medical assistant for almost 8 years and in my 2nd semester of nursing school. It’s completely different. As a MA you’re not thinking about why you’re doing all of the skills you do. For example, taking a blood pressure and getting 145/90. We just document that number. We don’t think why it’s high as a MA. Nursing is more critical thinking and asking yourself why is it that high and what are some interventions to lower it. Sorry so long 🙂But you can do it 💪🏾

      Lets stop attacking each other and be happy that there is a female that works in a place that allows her to pump and keep her baby healthy. We would rule the world if we would stop fighting. It is not a competition.

    • @ZiMakeUp
      @ZiMakeUp 5 років тому +1

      TheMabes69 Nothing new in the world of nursing lol. Which is sad to say. It’s been textbook turn real life problem since I’ve been a nurse for the last 4 years. The only state who has safe patient ratios is in Cali which is again, sad. Did you know some hospitals make it mandatory to pick up because of how short they are? And that these are hospitals from outside the state I live in. Sounds dangerous? Absolutely! Is this new? NOPE.

    • @ZiMakeUp
      @ZiMakeUp 5 років тому +3

      Lori Bonicelli I’m definitely not trying to fight and create competition. We need more laws to allow women to have time with their baby and care for their baby. I’m beyond half and relief she had time to do all this stuff! I wasn’t writing to be rude, but I guess my slightly jaded nursing humor got out of hand for some people 🧐

    Hi! I am a nurse myself, but in The Netherlands, and I immediately noticed your (beautiful) black nail polish. The reason I noticed is because wearing fake nails or nail polish, rings, bracelets or necklaces which you can't tuck under your uniform is strictly forbidden when on duty here. I was wondering if similar rules for personal hygene apply for nurses who have more open wound / tissue contact? It just seems very unhygenic to be wearing jewelry and go from patient to patient including all their bacteria / virusses / dirt.
