I'm a Whitley Bay lad born in 1966, left home at 17 and have been out in the USA for the last 18 years, I could write an essay about what this song means to me but three words say it best "Why Aye Man".
Brilliant song-and I agree possibly the best live version ever with Jimmy Nail the perfect link between the series and the song. I shall never forget that bit where this music is playing as we see the American Indian gentleman appearing on the dockside. Magic!!
I’m Irish worked in Germany with loads of English and Scot’s lads on site back in the late 80’s early 90’s🍺great laugh with great lads🙏🏽everyone was sending money home to family💚
This is a good live performance. I just think the flashing spotlights are ridiculous overkill with a lighting effect that's distracting and headache inducing.
‘Tonight we’ll drink the old town dry, keep wore spirit levels high!’ So bloody accurate. Love it.
a geordie lass of 1952, Whitley Bay, left 1979 for foreign land, this song makes me proud..great stuff...

Is that John Illsey playing bass?
Yup. And Chris White on sax by the looks of things. Nice little Straits throwback 💪🏻
Scotswood born and a proud Geordie & Northumbrian but how does Jimmy Nail contribute to this, just curious 🤨
The song wouldn't have existed if Nail hadn't asked for it for Series 3 of Auf Pet.
jimmys a Geordie and played a brickie in auf wiedersehen like the lyrics state plus it was theme tune for auf wied 3
Geordie then
