Lovely clip and combination. Featuring one of the long-thought-lost Christmas idents. I heard somewhere that Bob Monkhouse is responsible for its survival from a recording in his vast archive though that may be just an urban legend I suppose.
I think a lot a people had expectations of what might be in his archives. The unfortunate part is if they’re only interested in the recording and start the machine manually people generally miss out the tv companies Id. (I stopped asking other people to record programmes for me after ONE disaster).
@@bdavebaldwin thank you David for putting in the time on that research. Yes I remember Monkhouse used to leave a detailed list of recording requirements with an assistant of his if he ever went away on holiday. In massive detail. Loads of stuff and I wonder how he ever got the time to watch it all must’ve been like trying to paddle upstream. Also I have seen two slightly different versions of the trumpeting heralds. I think they must’ve moved the camera in and out a little bit when they arrived for work at television centre in the morning. Thanks again for a great clip.
@@bdavebaldwin I just had to have the globe and announcer in any of my recordings. Used to bug me if my dad turned it on too late and missed the beginning if I was out. I remember he messed up the beginning of episode 5 of Hitchhikers and I was really miffed for ages. Got our first video recorder in 1981 (Sony Betamax C7) just before the Royal Wedding and have got some good clips.
As time goes on the early stuff became unplayable. The 1976 snowflake was on 8mm film which I got copied onto video in the 80s. But then video starts to degrade. I had transferred some stuff on to dvd which in turn after a while wouldn’t work. To cap it all the state of the art solid state hard drive I bought … packed in. So what’s on the tube is becoming all that is left.
Remember how excited we'd be waiting for the xmas tv and radio times to come out. Often had morecambe and wise in santa costumes on the front if i remember correctly
Maybe that theme is what the trumpeters are playing! Great to see more footage of this ident!

Just had a check and Monkhouse recorded the film Carefree that Christmas - with the ident. A strange version actually showing the turntables

You lost the original file?

Family weren’t very impressed when as kids we spent a day deciding what they would be watching for two weeks.
