You're so lovely when talking about Latvia's country. They've really appreciated it and are grateful for what you tell everybody about their customs and culture.
You got some very solid points! I think missing out on (specifically with family) would be the hardest part. Even though I'm excited to move abroad and explore, I'm always looking back and trying to be present for my family. A great follow up video would be finding work in Latvia or alternatives that you may have experimented with! I believe I saw an Uruguayan flag on your thumbnail which makes me bring up this question, have you found opportunities for work perhaps in Spanish? I'd assume it would offer higher wages since there isn't a large Spanish community, but I may be mistaken!
Hi! Thanks for your comment. Actually great video idea! I do want to share a little about my experience trying to find a job in Latvia and yes, actually in my current job I work in both spanish and english which is pretty convenient.
@@GabrielaPineda que bueno! I think it would really be motivating for your audience since I’m sure you attract both Spanish and English speakers 😄 I know Hispanics tend to look a lot into other parts of the globe for opportunity, compared to Americans that are beyond happy in their U.S bubble, which is perfectly okay, but they seem to be very conservative with the videos they watch. At some point it made me question if I should entirely switch to a Spanish channel since everything I want to focus on is mainly abroad. Excited to see your new video once it’s out. 🙌🏼
These are very realistic points. Thank you for sharing. I have wanted to move to another country for so long. Through the years I have come to realize that I do not belong here anymore. It has become so depressing.
in Latvija, if you want to get into a heart of ancient society, you should join folk dance or singing group. if you are accepted in Dziesmu un Deju svētki, then you are accepted as our own. and you probably have no idea how fun it is. not now. because of corona, of course.
You're right and latvians are awesome singers. Actually when I was younger, I used to be part of a choir for long. I might reconsider this hobby in the future :D
Number 3 is so on point... I recently moved to a new town, after living for a long time in a different town on my new country, and after almost 8 months I still barely know any locals. Its so hard to get friends as an adult!
Hi Gaby!! I'm using your videos as a "Guide to be a decent Expat"... I just started a month ago and your comments are really relatable... Went to the supermarket in bike "as a local" a couple of days ago and felt like it was such an achievement!
Hahahaha it is an achievement! Today I had to have a long convo in Latvian at the post office to get a package. Highlight of my day :) Celebrate the small things 😁
Glad you cleared up the immigrant vs expat difference 😂 thank you so much for this video, now I don't feel so alone with my thoughts!! I have been in Latvia for two years now and missing home very much. It's weird how it makes you appreciate your home country much more.
Omg, totally agree! When you move to such a different place, it makes you become such patriot of your home country and you appreciate everything so much more. I'm glad you resonated with my expat feels 💙 Where are you from?
@@thefranjipan Latvian living in the UK here and I feel it. Though I didn't quite move here voluntarily so I'll never feel at ease here despite having lived here for 15 years but a few more years until my kids have grown and I'm going back where I should have stayed in the first place not make rash decisions...
Hey Gaby, you have a lovely way of putting it into perspective. To answer your question about becoming a minimalist...defo😅 and its refreshing. Growing and gaining an open minded perspective on life is definitely a result of doing it the right way🤙🏽🤙🏽. Keep up the great vids.
Perfect 🥰 really on the point. I'm Latvian living in Bulgaria and it is true all of it. All of it I am used to have here being an outsider, home sick, social cut. But since I am here I have grown so much in so different ways. I got really big realty check. And I'm super grateful about my family and my home country 😌
Been an expat for about 5 years now as-well and I related to all of the points. The feeling of always being an outsider, trying to find friends and being homesick are one of the hardest. I agree, people see it as a life full of glamour and travel but many don’t know how much we leave behind. Particularly how much family really means. Loved your video, it was extremely relatable in every way. ♥️
Many great points you have there. make a video in Latvian. My neighbor lives here 50 years and doesn't know Latvian. I am only 33 and i know his language, should i?
I am so happy for you catrachita! I want to see a huge mix of Latvians and Hondurans I even plan to have open political community in Roatan for Latvians to come to. Yass con el tigre de tegus I want to open the door to Honduras for Latvians wanting to live in their own paradise. It’s a lifelong dream of mine, and we are moving there from Miami in 2025/2026 of course we’ll be in Latvia too, our beach home is intended to be of cultural mixing political value where Latvians can come and contribute to the island of Roatan and in return enjoy the best of Honduras 🇭🇳
Many emotions living abroad you are absolutely right. We're all immigrants and in my view expats is a western / Japanese construct. So called expats are less willing to integrate in local society and culture , and may hang with their home country nationals. Unfortunately many British people are like this when living abroad and may not even bother to learn the local language. Living abroad broadens the mind and shows that we're alike as human beings with fascinating differences in outlook & humour. you miss some funny home food products sometimes , though in London and most British cities you can find food products from almost anywhere in the world . What do you miss as a North American ? From France I miss the Suchard chololate Rocher . Not at all like the cheap nasty superwrapped Ferraro imitations full of nut bits and praline. In France I missed Cross & Blackwell Branson pickle with my Emmenthal baguette 😀
By «expat» you mean you go to live there to for a limited period of time or is it rather you move there forever? I really wonder if this term is becoming some sort of euphemism to avoid saying «The real truth about being an 'immigrant»'.
You’ve definitely become more Latvian and I’ve become more Honduran, I’m all roughed up 😂 I was Ādamsone and becoming Torres forget it, people think I’m born latina that’s too arrogant to hablar español. You should see my face when I started getting voicemails 🙄 Spanish is my fourth language and I just have to eat it You at least look like a foreigner and it’s a good thing
There is no difference between an expat and an immigrant. What Is an Expatriate? An expatriate, or expat, is an individual living and/or working in a country other than their country of citizenship. An expatriate can also be an individual who has relinquished citizenship in their home country to become a citizen of another. 😆 I have a genuine question. Why do certain people coming from certain areas avoid the word "immigrant" so much?
Latvija should be grateful to have you there. I am.
This made me smile, thanks ❤ We make Latvia a little bit brighter for sure!
We are grateful for everyone! ( even though I left LV 16 years ago)

100% and sometimes you make friends and they move somewhere else 😭 It's a process!!!
Same applies in some sort, like friends etc. when local divorce after 14 years of marriage and moves to another city within the country
You're right, sad but true.

Can I just send you hugs? I live in Latvia all my life, but some of your points relate to me so much. Especially this year.
This past year has sucked!!! But things will get better ☀️ The sun is already making a huge difference. I send you lots of hugs as well 🤗
