- A "how to" guide showing how to make your own battery powered balsa wood airplane. I used my 24" plane shown in a prior tutorial in this video. You can find everything you need to make it at RadioShack. Thanks for watching and feel free to comment below!

Nice!! I liked it.
Thanks for the info!
Great Idea!
Take the autofocus off when you record. It eliminates the in and out of focus when you are moving objects in front of the camera. Very cool project. Mine works very well. Flew for nearly 45 minutes before a gust of wind caused it to crash. Very nicely explained.
Thanks for the idea.
Rich this is sweet thanks man !!! Thumbs up !!!
Thanks! Have a good New Year!
Good idea! I'll keep that one handy for my next video.
Nice. Good idea.
very cool bro.
thanks i loved it
That's a good idea!
Yes, thanks for the idea.
Thanks! Yes, it needs some revisions, but it worked so I was happy.
Thanks man!
great method......helped me a lot thanks
superb!!
Thanks!
Wow, thanks a lot. This is exactly how I feel.
Whoa, pretty high tech! Thanks for the comment.
Yes...hit the wall airplane...nice job bro....
Thanks for the idea. Yes, I believe I could have found a better motor. The motor I used started to "burn out" after a couple days.
Thank you so much! I needed a this for my science session and this will surely get me a pass!
you are the best
hey mate thanx for this tutorial my little sister and my little cousin were really happy you've got a new subscriber
Keep the good nice job.
You're welcome! It's a lot of fun.
great.. man.. thx.. my kids... ayush and mahi.. are very happy...
By the way this video helped me make a battery powered plane and it helped me make a rc boat go faster because i used the motor in an rc boat.
i like this video and it works well
That's awesome!
Sounds cool haven't tried it yet though
so nice video. i like it
Thanks!
That's a good idea. Thanks for watching!
Ha, that'd be awesome. I might try to do some more work with it.
awesome
Yes definitely. You might want to try placing the battery pack a little further back than I did to make it fly better.
ur awwsome man, its really good hobby. greaitng from tukey...
I got mine at a local toy store. It was part of a $1 toy. However, it did break pretty easily. A hobby store may have better ones. I tried making mine out of a soda can, but I was worried it would be too sharp and become a "killer electric plane" ha. Good luck and have fun!
Very good point. I agree, however, when I filmed the video I was in the mind set of "bigger is better". Thanks for the comment.
wow is very good, thannnnnnks
woah!!...nice fan for summers.. (Y)
Ha, thanks for the idea.
Thanks for the awesome comment!
Nice house :P
This is a crazy idea but you should try putting propellers of both wings. I don't know how it would effect the weight and the aerodynamics of the plane but it would be cool. Plz try
thanks
Ok, so we've figured out the the weight of the batteries and the motor itself are too much for that motor and prop. I've made a similar balsa plane with a battery-powered motor that does fly. I used a 3V flat battery - the size of a quarter, that came from my car alarm fob. Much lighter and provides ample juice for the motor. You can also find a much smaller switch. I was able to hold the plane, turn the motor on, and have the plane fly under its own power. Additionally, I used a prop that's smaller than yours - about 5", that came from a balsa model. It's shaped more efficiently than the one you're using. Lastly, cut a few inches off the front of the fuselage and mount the motor closer to the wing. The center of gravity will be improved.
best!
Ya I might try placing it under the wings. At first I thought placing them up front would be a good idea because of the size of the plane. However, it may have dragged the plane down a little too much.
I was thinking of placing motors on each side of the plane (on the wings) and see what happens.
Yes, it is a work in progress.
I want to use it for other things too. I just don't know what to make yet.
great idea . can you use a high speed brushed motors or motors found in hairdryers and a cheap battery from those emergengy lights to power that motor. can you try that and make a video of it.thankx
Yes.
Answer to both questions, yes. I was having an issue with the weight being unbalanced. I was thinking of mounting two motors next time and placing them on the wings.
Yes, and next time I might place two motors (one on each wing).
Yes to connect the wires to the motor.
yes, those are what we use in most rc planes. much, much better power to weight ratio.
I make that its working nice
That's awesome. Congrats!!!
Cool
I mean horrible
a smal tip, make a sort of airfoil on the wings,so will stay longer in the air!
nice
Thanks!
i watched it full , u r a hardworker , i have to admit it , can you use a brushless motor just like in old cd drives then it will fly and weightless
Yes, I might upload another video with an updated design.
It,s nice
cool
ha very true.
Another thing, RichsMethods, you remind me a little of Sheldon Copper (from TV's Big Bang Theory), but not quite as high TECH as him YET!! :)
how did you counter the weight in the back
I have to make a balsa wood glider for a science competition i have to use the wood, glue, and tissues also the plane has to be under 40 grams heavy, do you have any recommendations?
with wings that big itll certainly fly
Can you do a video on putting 2 propellers on each wing??
Woow
Thanks! I think he's pretty funny.
your channel is very interesting goo d job on your videos and you have a new sub
when you throw the airplane would the prepelor would brake right
can i use battery holders that hold 4 aa bwtterys?
If you put some down draft stabilizers on the wings you will get more lift. However with a motor on it, it will just fly away so I suggest you either figure out how to wire a servo to the plane so you can setup a remote control to it, and or use this in a really big field.
Nice thanks for the input. Servos are little beyond my expertise.
RichsMethods But definitely worth the try.
RichsMethods You can get them at any hobby shop that deals with remote control vehicles. This would give you the ability to steer the plan.
where did you get the propeller ? please help me
Yo bro, don't listen or even read what some of these assholes write. You did an awesome job and if you like it the way it is then leave it. You made it so don't let people tell you to adjust it.
Thanks Bryan! I had fun making it and using it. I would like to eventually make a better one, but we'll see.
Hey thanks! I like your youtube profile pic (gangnam style!)
can i use a soldering iron
Wow....oh my god. I remember building a helicopter(that had wires running to the ground, semi stationary flying vehicle) 8 or 9 years ago. I have a video of it somewhere, and I used the EXACT same propeller, I remember it because it came with a toy. What are the chances....
You could build the motor first if you want. It's up to you.
How does it fly??
I am 12 years old, but I've been able to make the RC car, plane esc
with circuit board on rc car
genius all right
Will 4aa s work?
can i make a rc plane with this motor which you are using in this video
Can you make this plane with Balsa body and foam wings?
I tried using the 1.5 V battery pack on a 3v motor. With a tinier plane, didn't work out too well lol.
Bummer:/
You can purchase the battery pack at RadioShack or most likely any hobby store.
+RichsMethods whats the specs of the motor you used? like the rpm/V.. or can you please send me the link of the item?
If one propeller helps the plane get further even though it weights more with a battery, 2 wing propellers should do better (if placed well). 3 propellers is also possible then.
U should make helicopters too!
Ha I'll try.
does it fly?
to give it extra move use a 9 volt battery and battery clip
Where else could u buy those parts
Where do you get the planes
can you use card board
where to buy the battery pack
The larger the propeller (to a certain point). Will actually decrease the performance. The larger prop will have more drag then the smaller prop. If it has more drag then the motor will not spin as fast. For that motor and plane I would recommend a propeller an inch or two smaller than the current one.
Hey, great idea! Try using a 180 dc motor (it's the name/model - search AliExpress for it) and a 2s battery pack. ;) But you probably are going to loose it. Like, forever. LOL
