She And the cutter "Hamilton" on the east coast were the only cutters fitted with the Harpoon missile, test firings off the Mellon was also conducted in January 1990. both the Mellon and Hamilton also received an anti-submarine warfare suite including the AN/ SQS-17 and AN/SQS-38 SONAR and Mark 46 torpedoes. After Del Pilar class modernization, these suggestions for cost effective next upgrades:
To reclassify as a Light Frigate:
    1. Anti-air/sea missiles with MBDA Simbad Mistrial/ Sadral LMS rooftop.
    2. Anti-sub with Saab ASW601 in stern.
    To return as a Frigate:
    3. Anti-ship intermediate range with Konsberg Penguin MLS angled behind the Ota Melaro.
    4. OTH Anti-ship KDA Penguin missiles for AW 109/159’s.
    GO GO PN!!

It should be BRP Nuval. The real hero of the off shore patrol ww2. Alcaraz was with nuval too. They choose Alcaraz because he was againts the Tyrant in the 70's. And to keep the Crew's morale high..... is the Food.

Philippines is surrounded by Chinese battleships, coastguards, research ships and all vessels that you can think of sailing as they please at Philippines waters and eez as you're reading this comment. Why patrol a territory if Duterte will just instruct you to just leave the Chinese alone. You might as well go home and just spend quality time with your family.Tambay at makipaginoman na lang kayo mas mabuti pa.

The Philippine is on track to procure several more newer and more advanced warships. 3 more were delivered to the Philippines including BRP Conrado Yap and the two missile frigates that’s on its way here now. Also, the Philippine Coast Guard had acquired newer OPV’s from a french company and is undergoing sea trials now! 💪🏼
There are at least four from the last time we visited her.

How about harpoon or exocet missiles systems updates? Todays warfare is over the horizon and beyond visual range, although you see the enemy on radar but doesnt have the capability to reach him, it will be a disadvantage, you can be killed without knowing what happen or who shoot your vessel. Anti missile defense capability and electronic counter measures is also a must for this ship against SSMs launched by either aerial or surface ships launch pads. Anti submarine acoustics is also a must to detect enemy submarines running silently below the waves, like a kilo class submarine, the arrival of ASW helicopters AW 159 wildcats is a boost in ASW capabilities of the navy. Any updates of this ship in beyond the horizon warfare, ECM, ASW, will boost our countrys' maritime and territorial defense capabilities.

Agree, we have the shipyards already and abundant in raw materials. Even we can't match the foreign-made, little by little we can develop it by the features we got from the new ones we acquired abroad, and multiply our inventory. Indonesia are making their own, why can't we.
