    For a 5 year old I'd also recommend doing tab "upside down", because most beginners get confused by the already-upside down nature of tab, so explaining how to read tab to a really young kid is probably going to be difficult, and they'll frequently forget and play this incorrectly.

    • @KaseysMusicMethod
      @KaseysMusicMethod  10 місяців тому

      For sure. Do what works even if that means reversing the tabs. Although, it’s too late for me since I’ve written several books with the standard backwards notation. 😂

    I have another tip--get a Loog or a ukulele. Guitars are big and have a lot of strings, it takes a lot for a little person to be able to actually play some songs whereas on a uke or especially the Loog they are playing chord changes right away. If they dig it, move up to a small guitar!

    • @KaseysMusicMethod
      @KaseysMusicMethod  Рік тому

      Yes sir! Although the best strings from a guitar are removed on a ukulele and Loog imo. The 6th and 5th strings are usually where I start beginners because you can play many different riffs and bass lines on them.

    Do you have suggestions how to start a 5 year old who desperately wants to learn? Unfortunately in our area none of the teachers will even MEET with a child for guitar until the child is ten and nobody in the house plays. None of us have any idea but the little wants, so badly, to learn how to play. It would be great if there was some good online content that can help us out as it’s impossible to get her lessons for years yet.

    Do you have any tips on how to develop a child's finger strength if they are having a hard time pressing down on the strings.

    • @KaseysMusicMethod
      @KaseysMusicMethod  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Danita,
      Yes! Finger strength should come fairly quickly. I would make sure to have them play single notes and not chords to start. Also make sure that their guitar is properly setup. From time to time, guitars need adjustments and it could be that your child's guitar strings are very high and far away from the fretboard.
      Can you try playing it to see if it's difficult for you as well?

    • @KaseysMusicMethod
      @KaseysMusicMethod  2 роки тому +1

      One other tip, make sure that when they press down the string to press closer to the next highest fret. If they are pressing down on the 5th fret, make sure they are pressing closer to the 6th fret rather than the 4th. That makes a huge difference!

      Tips
      1. Keep Instruction Simple
      2. Use simple or no notation for instruction
      3. Repetition
      4. Teach music that is fun and interesting
      5. Allow students to choose their own songs
      6. Keep things moving
      7. Go with the flow
      Teaching the guitar to children can be challenging! Try to be patient and experiment with different methods for helping them to learn. Sometimes the best way to teach can only be learned through trial and error. Good luck!

      Why teach any scale to a kid. They just wanna jam throw a bunch theory at them and they gonna put that guitar in the closet. Keep it fun for kids. Christmas coming teach them single note Christmas songs. Find the shows they like or games get a theme song out for them. Something they know in their head already when they can ply that on guitar they accomplished something. Kiss. Keep it simple. They will wanna learn more and practise on their own when they start learning songs.

    For kids to play songs they need to learn chords: How long should a 5 to 10 year old practice a day training their fingers so they can learn chords?

    • @KaseysMusicMethod
      @KaseysMusicMethod  Рік тому +1

      Good question! I typically don’t teach chords to children until they have been playing riffs, melodies, and bass lines for a couple months. For practice I recommend 10-20 minutes per day. You can set a timer if that helps. Using play along jam tracks can make practicing more interesting.
      Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
