- This is the Skywheel, one of the most thrilling wheels out on there. It was made by Allan Herschell and Chance Rides, and operated by ride operators of McDonagh's Amusements. This ride was made in 1965, and refurbished by McDonagh's in 2003, and is one of Thrillseeker's favorite wheels to get on. This ride is part of the midway of the St. Patrick's End of Summer Festival, located on Huchins Road and Union Lake Road, in White Lake. This video was taken on September 25, 2009.
I really miss this ride, loved it as a kid
Thanks for putting that on UA-cam. The Skywheel has always been one of my very favorite rides because of it's unique qualities. It combines the feeling of a Farris Wheel into the thrill of a race car (so to speak) in the same ride. I used to ride the Skywheel every year at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson but then after about 1997 I was no longer able to find the ride in any midway or carnival. In Sept. 2012 I toke my 1st ride on a Skywheel in 15 years at the KSF. It was really fun!
Wheel in the sky keeps on turning!!!
That's reminds me of a song I can't not find but 8t a good song
Haven't seen one of these since the early 80s...didn't know they still exist.Used to have one at the Indiana state fair in the early 80s.
Great video love you buddy you are awesome it is a great ride
When I was a kid that ride was called the Rampage.
BS
Not the same ride, same motion but different ride experience and view and look.
I like to SkyWheel but the thing that gets me is this one hitting wires
Those powerlines look lovely and close...
The sky wheel is my favorite Farris wheel in all parks
its a Allen Herschell model basically a trailer mounted ride the drive wheels they used are from a Volkswagen Beetle up to 1968. as at the time the car was cheap and they used the wheels and tires to make the ride's wheel drive systems. these were also made by Chance Rides
I first saw this at the Du Quoin State fair (DuQuoin illinois) in the early 1970's. I thought it was the Boss of the midway. Never knew the name, I always called it the double-decker ferris wheel.
lol i honestly noticed the submarine first... that was my favorite ride when I was five lol...
I've ridden a few Sky Wheels & on one of them, you could clearly hear your seat grinding...praying that thing doesn't just drop you Way down there where the midway's at! LOL Old rides like the Sky Wheel are rickity...although, my favorite ride is the Sky Diver. I trust riding a Sky Diver anyday over a Sky Wheel! Ain't no way of falling out of a Sky Diver car, you're in there pretty good!
The doubles used to scare the hell outa me, but i went on em every year at the NYS Fair.
I thought they only had that a couple times at the NYS fair because one year a part fell off and seriously injured or killed someone.
When I went to the NYS Fair in 2016. I went two days but not in a row, the ride never worked either days. It just stood in the air. But I saw it move for a few minutes the one day but then shut down immediately the next second I looked. I think a few people were on it.
I'm not sure what happened but if it never ran after that then something serious was wrong with it. It's sad though because I wanted to go on it XD.
The Skywheel is becoming a thing of the past. Now it seems like there are more of the large single ferris wheels. That is too bad. Make more skywheels!
Yeah, use to be part of the midway at fairs. Was called a Double Ferris Wheel back in the 60's. A lot of fun to ride!
love the skywheel and the skydiver. lights up the midway. i wonder how many skywheels are left in the u.s.?
only 5 they are very scarce now..
I wish the sky wheel come to montgomery county fair 2014.
They changed it alot in a year
get on it.
I thought that ride did flips over and over again
thumbs up if u here the song i gotta felling
I wish they could make this where I live. They always have the same shit!
Same here. It's always the same rides. I for tired of going to the antelope valley fair. Its also way over priced to see the same stuff every year
how do they get up there!???!!!!!
i just found out how they got up there......
would have been a lot better video. if you tried it. the full effect is when you get stuck on top and are waiting for the other wheel to load.
