***** 1651997 I prefer this demo version over the Myth demos and the Empire version from '90. This one has Geoff in his prime, and that epic E5 at 2:08

First: Queensrÿche doesn't sound like Rush that much
Second: What's the problem with sounding like Rush? They rule

Geoff Tate was a vocal demigod back then.

This version recorded 85/86 is better then the one they did for the empire import which they re recorded in 88/89.. Meaning GT vocals were a tad weaker on the 88/89 version when his voice was starting to show the smoking and partying effect.. Still great regardless

The human voice changes through life. Yes, smoking, partying, dairy products, un-proper care, etc can do damage on many levels. But... Classical training would also teach that the human voice does not reach its absolute prime until an average age of 45. Geoff Tate going for 18 months singing Operation MindCrime in its entirety almost every night and then it carrying into the Empire tour, that is a massive under taking. They didn't use under- studies to fill in for nights he was sick or if he had issues. It was "The Show Must Go On"....
Geoff Tate is an Amazing singer no matter how you look at him. Wether it was age, physical, misc. damage incidents, change in style or direction. His voice is amazing.
Geoff Tate absolutely has natural ability but his discipline, drive, lessons, focus, practice and warm up regiment, etc are huge factors. But one of the biggest parts is his understanding of the human voice, body, balance, breathing, involuntary muscle control, technique, etc. Then there is his SOUL... His Pallet... His communication skills, his ability to put himself into another's shoes preemptively , to become the song, to become whoever or whatever he is singing about, to bare his Soul and Pour it out with no distraction of worrying what others will think or how he will be judged, etc.. Then we have his style and his incredible artistic forms of expression. Through his demeanor and attitude. Every part of every word of every syllable tied to every sentence and so on. He gives it all meaning, life, feeling, intent, emotion, staying in absolute control by letting go completely.
Then other massive key points. The Band, Chris DeGarmo and Geoff Tate were one of the Greatest duo's of all time, tasteful and complimentary of each other in writing and Eddie Jackson , Scott Rockenfield, and Michael Wilton.. A perfect storm of talent and shared vision that can't be topped. Truly one of the Number 1 bands of all time.
People can try to copy and sound like them but they can NEVER be them. I don't want to see people try to mimic someone else unless it's a tribute band in which case, have at it. I want to see people "Be Themselves". If I like it great, if I don't, it doesn't matter and don't take it personal, if you do your part then someone will like you.
It's sad to see Queensryche go the way they did. It is sad to see people compare the new singer to Geoff Tate because their is No Comparison, he can NEVER be Geoff Tate and never write or create as Geoff Tate. So it is good to see him start trying to find himself and his voice. Now he can begin creating music and see if he can let go of attempting to be Geoff and just be himself. Personally I think a better fit for Him would have been Crimson Glory but this is where we are at and I wish all parties the best.
I've seen first hand , Amazing bands come apart from the inside and the reasons are generally absolutely bullshit that evolves into a long drawn out building of animosity between friends over jealousy , false pride, outside influences, insincere whispers from others to insight division, bad choices or accidents, insecurities and reading into things that are read wrong. Most of which could have been ended day 1 of people would just communicate and say or ask what's on their mind. Just being straight about things and not taking everything personal could have saved so many bands and relationships.
Another thing is, in a band you get paid for what you put in. Best scenario is everyone getting an equal share so long as nobody just sits on their ass. Generally though the band is driving corvettes and gets jealous that the guy who writes the majority of the songs and instrumental parts is driving a Ferarri... But you can't get jealous if that was the understanding from day one. What you can do is do the best you can and start writing as much as possible and just have the band's best interests be your own as well.
In anycase, I will stop rambling.. If you read all of this, Thank You.
If you have input, I would love to hear it .. good or bad... but don't just sink to aggression and throw out some wasteful insult.. Personally I like honest input.

@@sparkynm156 Personal opinions aside, when Tate stopped being able to sing the old songs THE WAY THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO SOUND, it was time to go. Between age and Cabaret shows it was time to go. Todd LaTorre is finding his own niche with Queensryche, singing the old songs THE WAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO SOUND, and the new material that the band has created with him has infused new life and youth into the once AGING band. Tate and DeGarmo are not the be all end all of Queensryche or else they wouldn't have continued. DeGarmo left for a reason(saw the writing on the wall), and Tate was let go for a reason.

There's a 1981/1982 demo version of this song from when Geoff was in Myth which is even stronger than this 1985/1986 version. Btw, Empire was recorded in Spring 1990, not 1988/1989.

It’s sad that by 1988 he couldn’t sing Queen of the reich anymore for whatever reason….i don’t know if many fans know but TODD is also a smoler
