Won't lie, always had a soft spot for ghouls. The concept just offers so many avenues for character exploration and storytelling and allows for peaks behind the curtain of the Masquerade without giving everything away. For concepts Ghouls can be loyal retainers, brutal enforcers, single minded fanatics, deluded cultists, broken addicts, simpering slaves, elite mooks, middle managers and fronts, boon companions or dangerous predators in any Vampire or Arcanum game. And since most usually only have just enough functional knowledge of the darker powers in the WoD but are often ignorant of the deeper details, histories, and contexts they are great sources of in universe misinformation and misdirection. A curveball you can throw at players who might be a little too overconfident in their abilities or if you need an antagonist that's a cut or two above regular mortals but not necessarily a full fledged creepy crawly in their own right. Like maybe the players might be investigating a rash of grisly murders thinking some rogue neonate is a binge feeder risking the Masquerade. Only it turns out to be an independent ghoul whose got a vampire staked and captive, force feeding them stolen blood and harvesting vitae for their own purposes and ends. Or maybe the players are dealing with some cult or decadent family or shady business whose inner circle is getting a little extra boost from their "patron" who hides the doling out of their blood in some kind of weird but otherwise benign looking ritual. The recipients have no idea exactly WHAT it is they are imbibing. Only that it's liquid dynamite that makes them feel like a million bucks. Or what about hunters and occult investigators who figured out juicing with vampire blood gives them an edge in their arcane studies or fighting the forces of darkness? A dot or two of Celerity or Potence or some random Thaumaturgical path or Vampiric power doesn't sound like much on its own. But it can quickly flip the script and put the players on their back foot if they don't see it coming. And then you've got the Revenant families whose cliquish natures, physical prowess and societal influence rival even some of the Clans, with branches and alcoves that can pop up in the strangest places and bring with them their own squicky set of secretive agendas, bizarre abilities, and unsavory habits. Thus in a way ghouls are kind of the in universe bridge in the WoD. Though still technically mortal they have just enough exposure and knowledge of what's really going on to be a threat to others but also a potential danger to themselves as their mucking about in "that which mortals were not meant to know" can set them up to take a fall. This makes them a fungible resource and tool that can be a sign that the story is indeed moving one step beyond or the threat has escalated without it being immediately clear as to the exact nature of what the players might really be up against.
