Hey, I know you! I love YOUR phrasing. hehehe I just thought that I'd reply to your 10-year-old comment, since nobody else has. I'm a long-time fan of yours, in fact. Hope that all as been well with you!
Several years ago I saw David Russell and Pepe Romero in the same weekend - Pepe's fiery playing is unrivaled as is Russell's peerless musicianship/interpretations. That was an inspiring experience!
Music from homeland!!! Brazil is a big country but this kind of music is typically from my little village called Conservatória Valença Rio de Janeiro, the serenade’s land. Where I was born 🇧🇷💚💛
This song shows so little, yet so much. It shows understanding of music, experience of interpretations, and love for music. I can play this piece with ease, but I believe I still have a while before I can get it to not only this standard, but this level of musicianship. I hope I get there one day...
The score looks relatively simple on paper and is deceptively easy to learn. But to turn this melody into poetry, with the dynamics, the sensitive ritardandos, the variety of tone produced with the right hand and so on...: all this is very difficult indeed. It asks for technical prowess and 'feeling', and Rusell has both. This is a masterful rendering of this beautiful piece.
Russell Davis did a masterclass for my school one time and he said himself that this was one of the most difficult pieces to play when asked why he said "it is not a virtuosic piece when it comes to technique however when it comes to the delivery of the piece one needs to be a virtuoso to truly display it's feeling and that is a difficulty many people don't understand or try to show"
Interpretation is almost everything and on transcribed music from other era's can be elusive. Never enough time to learn everything on Classical Guitar.
David you play dilermando very well that you shoud record one cd only with songs of dilermando. a song that is the your stile is canção para Ana de andré popp with arregement of Henrique Pinto. Thank you very much.
+Arthur sabbatini buoro thanks so much, although the intro is still missing. My best guess is David himself created this part. Since all other versions do not contain it.
@AndanteLargo Per, who doesn't? I would say something nice such as "David is one of the best players... etc." but I really think I don't need to. Everybody who listens to him simply knows it. Nothing else needs to be said.
A really beautiful rendition! What a pity you play an E instead of a G at 2:09 and again at 4:00. Not that I am the nitpicking kind, only that I consider that double G the most beautiful phrase finish in this piece. I wonder what your reasons were...
@@GuitarReader Good point. I don't know. Mine is א ALi Ω 20 oktober 2008. (why mix Hebrew, Greek and Latin in a name?) In this one, the equivalent to the "offending" note would be the last G in bar 29. It even has a fermata, so that would not be a note to mess with. But I was not comparing editions, just that I can't help but find it strange, after hearing the piece so often played the other way. By the way, there is a recording with the author in UA-cam. He plays a G, with a big fat fermata. Thank you for the interest.
Terrific rendition, but it would sound better on Mr. Russell's Ramirez guitar. The high E and F Sharp on this Matthias Damman guitar have especially cloying sounds.
I've heard recordings of Reis himself play this and it sounds quite a bit less classicaly romantic than Mr Russell's interpretation. Pluss Reis played Steel strings which of course makes a big difference. I love Mr Russell's take on it and I dare say he has contributed a great deal to Reis's music still be widely played and listened to today. He composed some great pieces for guitar and he deserves to be well remembered like this.
Dilermando Reis - Guaratinguetá - São Paulo - Brasil 1916 - 1977
I just love your phrasing.
A humble fan.

And now I'm replying to an 11-year old comment! I agree, this is a great version. I might even play it at my next concert! S
Muy buen comentario!!
Love it! Us from Brazil get very happy with a master like you playing our composers! Big hug
Love it... I played this for my 7th Grade trinity Exams..
Is this piece included in the Trinity series? If yes, do you know who was the arranger/transcriber?
Congratulations, dear David Russell ! Nice performance !
Best Regards,
Arthur, SAO-SP, Brazil
Just learned this and now I'm watching how others phrase the piece and I definitely learned a lot on this piece alone! Great performance
Did you use sheet music? If yes, which edition did you use?
Interpretação magnífica, própria de um grande violonista!
One of the best guitarists in the world.
Exceptionally beautiful playting... Tears roll down.
This is the example we all guitar students should follow: dedication and enthusiams.
Several years ago I saw David Russell and Pepe Romero in the same weekend - Pepe's fiery playing is unrivaled as is Russell's peerless musicianship/interpretations. That was an inspiring experience!
That sounds like the best weekend.
WONDERFUL! IT IS A GREAT BRAZILIAN MUSIC!
CONGRATULATION, DAVID!
Music from homeland!!! Brazil is a big country but this kind of music is typically from my little village called Conservatória Valença Rio de Janeiro, the serenade’s land. Where I was born 🇧🇷💚💛

Fabulous presentation. I'm proud to be Dilermando by one of the greatest violinists and Brazilian composers.

I can play this piece with ease, but I believe I still have a while before I can get it to not only this standard, but this level of musicianship. I hope I get there one day...

I agree!
Wow, I find it very challenging. Difficult positions to hold (I have a small hand).
If you liked it, I advise you to listen to this song played by Dilermando Reis. Is so beautiful! ua-cam.com/video/SxKLtmLFStY/v-deo.html
true, very easy to "play" but I find it really hard to convey the same feeling as he does...
Russell Davis did a masterclass for my school one time and he said himself that this was one of the most difficult pieces to play when asked why he said "it is not a virtuosic piece when it comes to technique however when it comes to the delivery of the piece one needs to be a virtuoso to truly display it's feeling and that is a difficulty many people don't understand or try to show"
Now who could dislike this ! Perfection.
David is a truly great guitarist.
Interpretation is almost everything and on transcribed music from other era's can be elusive. Never enough time to learn everything on Classical Guitar.
Beautiful, bravo
Amazing!
Blessed with a gift WOUNDERFUL
Gracies David Russell!

Molto bello!
1916-1977
Sem COMENTÁRIOS pra essa execução !!!!

Pregunta ela: Russell is the best
Lovely.
What guitar do you use and what strings to
1916 1977
is he the best player a live now ?
@AndanteLargo
Hey Per-Olav old chum you're not bad yourself!!!
Mr. Reis died in 1977, not 1958.
+Arthur sabbatini buoro thanks so much, although the intro is still missing. My best guess is David himself created this part. Since all other versions do not contain it.
es lo mismo que cuando termina.
@AndanteLargo Per, who doesn't? I would say something nice such as "David is one of the best players... etc." but I really think I don't need to. Everybody who listens to him simply knows it. Nothing else needs to be said.

don't cut the mustard

All my friends think that this is gay music and they make fin of me :(
find new friends and play guitar at a level so high, they'll be jealous of you
Probably you are gay. Have you thought about that?
Tchaikovsky was too.
"Se ela perguntar" means "If she asks" in Portuguese.
Gabriel Campos. Of course friend
beautiful
awsome indeed
Percebemos quão grande violonista e compositor foi o Dilermando. Execução primorosa.

David Russell gives this piece to us in all its soul, poignancy, beauty and tenderness. Bravo to Dilermando and David for enriching this earth.
exactly right ❤
Fabulo of a genius and that I like playing very well this part of Dilermando! Congratulations Russell!
increible intepretacion groso felicitaciones
Mükemmel bir parça,insanları dinlerken her şeyi unutturup hayallere daldırıyor..
This is just... perfect.

you are, and will always be, the best classical guitarist and one of the best guitarists who has ever lived on this planet.....no question about it!!!

This is ... Oh I just have to close my eyes and feel myself in this wonderful music. Love your Tarrega's and Barrios's.
You are magnificant!
Mr. Russell always has a Regal sound
Beautiful..
