Your #4 complaint has me puzzled: the "3 Second Rule" is why that indicator exists. If you're less than 3 seconds behind a car you risk not being able to react to sudden braking. Without it you need to count/calculate on a constant basis. I appreciate not having to 1-Missisipi my way down the freeway.
Agree about the interior. I'm really enjoying my EUV but the hard, cheap plastic is MEH. My package includes the adjustable driver's seat and heating, but the passenger is stuck with the old levers.

Great video. Concerning the heated seats and power seats, in Ontario, Canada, I'm showing standard heated front seats + heated steering wheel, and standard 8-way power driver seat with 2-way power lumbar, 6-way manual passenger seat. Maybe Canada only, or they updated their standard offering?

I forgot she had mentioned her dislike of the lane assist and it was actually helpful when I was driving back home from hanging out with a friend late one night. Kind of disappointed my 2022 bolt EuV lt2 we just purchased doesn't have that feature

Great set of Bolt EUV videos, and you've really help me make my decision to buy one if I can find a dealership that doesn't want to play a bunch of games, otherwise I'll look at the EV6 that will sell it at MSRP, no games. I'd like to have seen an auto lift gate available, in at least the premier. Thanks again for the time you take to produce great content.

I actually like it being a bit smaller here in LA so I can fit in tighter compact spots at Dodger Stadium and SoFi (I mean the Getty Museum) size compared to the Mach-e (wife choice) & EV6 (my choice) However I NEED the Premier for the Super Cruise coming from the Tucson...

I don't remember what it's actually called, but the sensors in the rear bumpers (that indicate when objects are approaching from a lateral direction) is totally underestimated, and very helpful when backing out of parking spaces. Especially when parking next to large vehicles. It can spot an oncoming vehicle much quicker than you can see it. But, I also think it helps that I have a rear view mirror camera. It can see almost 90 degrees from the rear bumper, so it's like a parascope when backing up! excellent safety feature on the premier trim level. on my Premier trim 2017 Bolt

I am planning to get the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV 2LT car this coming spring 2023. Being retired, I am the only person driving this car and will be for mainly around town, so all the things you talk about are mood points for me. All my charging will be at home since most of my traveling will make it on one charge - and maybe for several days before next charge is needed. Adaptive cruise is an option on this Bolt but still planning on getting that option - the EV versions never did have super cruise and I do not do highway driving to need it. I did test drive the Bolt at the dealership and I really like the 2023 version car. Sure the car has some quick accelerations, but I don't drive the cars like that.
    take care.

I have put 3000 kms on my Bolt EV and I love the thing. I find the seats comfortable but they are certainly not a premium seat. I always try and pay attention while driving so don't care about the drivers assists. Frankly it scares the bleep out of me that people are not paying attention and relying on this stuff with their lives and lives of others at stake. Please everyone pay attention while driving!

I'm not huge, 6'0 200;bs, but I'm basically sitting on the side bolsters instead of the middle of the seat, and my back doesn't touch the seat back because my shoulder blades hit the bolsters there. I cannot imagine doing a drive more than about 90 minutes. Luckily, due to the world's slowest DC charging, that's probably not going to happen very often. 😆

  • @DR0CK

Not sure how useful it is, but standard is to be 4 seconds behind the vehicle in front of you, so for ease of use they put it in seconds so you dont have to think.

    • @trevorlambert4226
      @trevorlambert4226 5 днів тому

It used to be 2 seconds. I've never heard anyone suggest 4 seconds before. Even at two seconds, you'll have a bigger gap than 80% of the vehicles around you, and sometimes have people filling in that gap in front of you. At 4 seconds and 70mph, that's a 20 car length gap. Cars will be constantly cutting in front of you, forcing you to continually slow down to maintain that 4 second gap.

    I agree with you 100%.
specially with the tag price for bolt ev.
the LT trim level could come at least with the rear view mirror like the premier or in the infotainment to have the option for rear view camera although you can't see 360 view like premier.
the power energy management in the infotainment is mediocre in terms of information, doesn't show battery percentage anywhere just only mileage.
we need or want to know more how the vehicle is performing.
charger cable, just only for level one.
now the 2022 has level 1 and 2 but I think that this is an option.

You bring up the price point a lot which I believe is valid. However, having just purchased a 2022 Bolt EUV, I will say we primarily went with it because it is so economical. The charging and maintenance costs are incredibly low compared to competing economy ICE cars. The battery longevity is far more promising than the Nissan Leaf which lacks active cooling. I'm confident that our Bolt can hit 250K+ miles with 70-80% of the original battery capacity. If you're a bargain shopper like we are and want to drive this thing into the ground, you'll find that when break it down to cost per mile over the life of the car, this is one of the cheapest cars you can buy.

I don't require elite handling, super-fancy software and displays, or tons of gadgets and features. I just want a good, reliable daily driver to go shopping, maybe throw the golf clubs in the back for a round, perhaps pop out to the cabin for a weekend, an hour and a half round trip.
I do appreciate the cost savings in fuel and maintenance an EV gives and I've been looking around for one pretty seriously.

I finally got to sit in the EUV last night and I’ve got a few quick ones: excessive piano black on the dash. I already struggle with the chrome trim on the interior of my Cruze. Next is the lack of a standard rear armrest. 3rd is the ugly blue badging on the trunk. 4th is the USB ports on the rear of the center console. That sticks way out into the middle passenger space and is sure to be a knee knocker.
As for the lack of some features, my 2017 Cruze stickered for $24k and still lacked any lumbar adjustment for the drivers seat, lacked a sliding sun visor, lacked tint across the top of the wind shield. It’s a GM thing to skimp pennies on the littlest things

we have a 2017 Bolt premier and love it. about your #4 hate: The 'seconds behind the car in front' is not meant for you to do math. In driver's ed and in defensive driving courses, they teach that a safe following 'distance' is 2 seconds. variable distance by speed makes sense to me.
now if I could suggest a replacement for your #4, I would say the radio controls. to get to the equalizer takes about 4clicks through the menu. I hate that.

I think the "seconds" display (for how far away you are from the car in front of you) is because today's "Driver Knowledge" test asks questions about distances to vehicles in seconds. When I was a kid, the questions were in feet. So maybe the "seconds" display is for new drivers. Just a thought.

I love mine so far. The biggest issue I forsee is the fast charging speed. The Mach-E, ID.4, Tesla, etc all can receive up to 175-250 kw/h for DC Fast charging and our EUVs can only take 55 or so. That needs to be improved. It'll really only be an issue during road trips (which I RARELY take) but for others it'll keep them from buying an EV or EUV over competitors....Overall I am LOVING my EUV though.

the reason for the distance being shown in seconds is because most drivers ed classes, even for Commercial Drivers, teaches following distance in seconds. namely, the rule being taught is to keep between at minimum 4-6 seconds of distance. by the car showing it in terms of that time, people taught following distance in time will be able to easily tell proper following distance.

For everyone! He made a huge mistake. The distance between you, and the car in front, have to be measured in seconds 2 sec as minimum. The reason why? is because that is the time to take between you activated the breaks and the the car star have a significant slowdown to avoid an accident.
Imagine if you go at 65 m/h your car travels more distance than if you go at 30m/h, ergo it's more es measure the distance in seconds rather than feets !

Interesting viewpoints and thanks for the reference! I'd love to see if any owners are actually getting closer to 60kW of DCFCing, as in my EUV review, I only saw 53kW. However, my starting SoC was about 26% so I bet one needs to be below 20%, closer to 10%, maybe to see the top spec charging speed, event for a minute or so.
I would generally agree with your viewpoints here, however they are almost all subjective and to you the seats are uncomfortable, to others they are not. I drove an older Bolt for a bit a couple of years ago, and had no issues with those seats and comfort for me.
Sure, the tech could be better and I did not test out the LKA solely on the EUV, only SuperCruise, which worked pretty well like Tesla's AP (which is the benchmark I test other OEM systems on as I own a Model 3 and use AP a lot on the highways). If those systems are important to a prospective buyer, then I would recommend just going with the Premier Trim and adding on SC. It is worth it overall, especially in the U.S. where more roadways are mapped in.
I think we are in agreement that the Bolts overall are GM's value offerings to get those thinking of an all-electric, especially as a secondary vehicle, to look at them since they are "affordable" - in the grand scheme of EV pricing. For sure we need EV pricing to come down to cost-parity with ICEV, however it is what it is today and one should not wait to buy an EV. Next to the ID.4 here in Canada anyway, the Bolts are excellent BEVs that compete pretty ok on pricing and features, against other comparable ICEVs. For a larger vehicle, the ID.4 is the best BEV value today, IMO overall.
Glad you like your EUV and thanks for joining the "EV Revolution" and getting rid of a tailpipe, since after all that is one of the most important points!

I just got to the point where you talk about the rear view mirror. If you are a rear view mirror snob, you HAVE to try the premier trim level LCD camera rear mirror. I wouldn't get another vehicle without it. It's that good. Heavy tinted windows?? No problem...Your vision is through a camera OUTSIDE THE TINT. This is especially valuable a night where looking thru dark tint makes seeing things more difficult and dangerous. Boxes or people normally blocking rear view mirror?? No Problem. The camera is outside the vehicle. PLUS, you can see such a wide angle of view, using side mirrors are almost optional. Such a great safety feature. If Elon Musk drove cars with rear view mirror cameras, every Tesla would have them...They are that good! (Ok, I see you mention the rear view mirror camera later in the video, but I think it you lived with one, you would be shouting out it's benefits even more)

I have the Bolt EV. I like the shifter infinitely better than the push buttons on the EUV. It allows one petal driving without having to be on the petal all the time. In the EV, in drive you can coast with minimal regen drag while going to low or hitting the regen paddle, or both, lets you throw out the anchor and engage one petal driving for sure. Plus I don't have to look down at a button to toggle. Significantly greater human factors engineering in the original Bolt and a big step down on the EUV. GM must have copied the greatly inferior Tesla and Hyundai systems here. This is a big disappointment for city driving because I like the idea of super cruise on highways. I would have bought one were it not for this deal breaker! Also, the environmental controls are a step backward on the EUV if you ask me. Too many engineers changing a good system into a bad one. Biggest complaint - too much software and the most useful software is behind a paywall.
    - I am perfectly okay with basic button controls for everything, ditching the infotainment system altogether. This would require the dash display to also contain battery/charging information.
    - The most useful software for me (past the battery info) is the remote start through the app......that requires a subscription to onstar.
I already had an issue with the software on the car (~200 miles). I forgot to put it in park, the next morning when I was driving it, the infotainment system refused to acknowledge that the vehicle was on...while I was driving it. So, I couldn't adjust the airflow to defrost the front windshield. Because of software. Just stupid.
    - Never had this fail with manual controls (I am sure people have).

Sounds like some features are lackluster but buying my first car and starting to drive, do you think it'll be that much of a deal breaker for me? Your complaint with the Bolt's too lenient parameters before the system tugs it back into the center of the lane, hasn't allowed for a spectacular potential benefit..that being the ability to steer/dodge a pothole that you can see but the car does not. Or any other road debris. In my (old tech) car, I'm constantly scanning the path in front of me and frost heaved roads are the norm. I've save tire and rim and suspension component damage countless times. Or if that sounds like an exaggeration and somebody wants a # put it.. let's say over 2000 times in the last 20 years. And that's not counting the miles I've dodged on just 2 wheels..often saving my hide numerous times in a day.
So... I understand your point but my opinion is the loose parameter is more of a benefit than a detriment. I'd also be curious to hear from others who agree with this..or their reasoning if they don't agree.
I really liked that you scrutinized the blazes outta the seats. Good to know. I'd anti up to get the leather if the support is night and day. Hopefully could do that and not have a sunroof forced upon me.

I'm currently comparing the 2023 model of this vehicle with the 2022 Kia Niro. One of my biggest questions about them both is - do you have to use the paddle for regenerative breaking? I know you can't really answer about the Kia, but if I have to actively use the paddle it seems like a bit of a con as opposed to just letting off the pedal like in a Tesla. Maybe I'm misunderstanding but I was hoping for some clarification.

    • @MetzTech
      @MetzTech  2 місяці тому

I have not driven a Niro. But in the Bolt, if you have one pedal mode enabled you just lift off the accelerator pedal and it automatically starts slowing down. Then you can also use the regen paddle for extra regen!

I also thought if Bolt could tell me time between me and car in front, it could probably do adaptive cruise control, too. Finally, don’t know if it has changed or not, but the overhyped OTA updates happened only one time on my 2017 for an infotainment update. Had a couple other updates, but they always required me to bring car to dealership. That all being said, I thought Bolt was a great car for the money. When I post polite critical comments on other Chevy EV videos, they are typically deleted, so hopefully you are not on their payroll. Bought a 2018 new, was denied a buy-back, so we paid Chevy more $ for 2021 to get out of the scary 2017-2019 battery issues. Within WEEKS learned ALL Bolts would need battery replacement. Both the 18 and 21 make the jet engine fan noise whenever charging in hot weather, which is very disconcerting. Have waited 1.5 yrs for new battery and dealer that took our 2018 has, too. Can't do the 90% range cap and not go below 70 mls due to long commute in winter temps. After a bunch of critical posts I recently made, Chevy miraculously has a battery for me now so will get that in 10 days. Today is cold and hearing popcorn/percolator sounds if plugged in - dealer can't say by phone if it's safe to charge, would have to drive an hour there. So, surfing for answers brought me here. Also just learned of a new fire-related recall on Bolts related to seatbelt pretensioner in wrecks igniting the carpet, but dealer doesn't know when part will be avail. We're stuck with the car since resale has tanked. The early adopter tax has not been enjoyable. I believe their Ultium is LG, too, so...

Sounds like you should have got the higher trim level, or a Tesla. I think Chevys plan is to sell a electric car with good range at a low price. $34k is about as low as it gets for a car with about a 250 mile range. So yes that means no heated seats and cheep plastic interior, because people know that most of the money goes towards the batteries. So if Chevy is listening then sell us a car that doesn't have a bunch of options on the base model making the price higher.
The one thing I don't like about this car is the gear selector on the center console. Could have put that on the dashboard and better utilized the space for storage.

I hate that grill. Looks like it’s been shrink wrapped with gray plastic. I think you need to blacken it on your cool bolt.

We picked up a 19 Bolt LT last weekend, my one major gripe about it is DC Fast charging speed. Any EV these days needs to charge higher than the Bolts 55KW limit (and thats only up to around 50%. With mine, once it passes the 60% mark, getting it over 25KW isnt happening) and thats the case with the 2023 model too, GM shouldnt have cheaped out on this.
