  • Hello friends! Welcome to my channel One Blessed Mess! In this video, I'm sitting down and talking all about perfectionism and what role it plays in our homeschool; sometimes it shows up in sneaky ways that we never recognized before!
    If you are new here, hi and welcome! I'm Christie, and I am on my 5th year of homeschooling 5 kids (ages 13, 12, 9, 5, and 3!) My husband and I pulled our kids out of public school, moved to our house in the country, and haven't looked back! I love sharing my (authentic + honest) journey with you all, and hope you will join me as we navigate our footing in the world of homeschooling!

    Good morning, Mamas! Thank you for being here! I hope today's video encourages and blesses you - I know perfectionism is something a lot of us struggle with, especially when it comes to homeschooling our children! ❤

      💯 That was my first three to four years: looking to make my perfect homeschool.
      Now that I’ve graduated three of our four kids, I am wayyyy past trying to be perfect.
      I see that we’re growing right alongside our kids. We don’t make or produce kids, we mother them, imperfectly, every single one of us.
      And the story can be beautiful imperfectly. ❤

    My biggest homeschool struggle is thinking I’m not “doing enough” and then 8 weeks later thinking I’m doing “too much”… this basically is our story, going back and forth multiple times a year 😂 Now im just trying to keep the curriculum consistent since I am not always…

      I feel the same, I live in the UK, and when taking the kids to Dr's appointments etc, they always question why I homeschool, am I qualified? Will they get the education they deserve? It brings you low sometimes, but God's word and conviction keeps me going. X

    I have definitely been here before, perfectionism was most prevalent my first two years homeschooling. I've really been practicing letting go and recognizing when to take a step back, it can be So hard sometimes! This is an awesome video, the raw reality of our own expectations that can be unrealistic! Thank you for all the honesty, this is why I love your channel!

    Good morning from Oregon. I just pulled my son out of public school again and I am so glad I did. He was only in for 2.5 months but that was even to much. It was so stressful for him and he was not even doing the work. His teacher did not communicate with me about it either. I have lost so much faith in public school. Today is our first day .....AGAIN.... with 4th grade. He is sitting down and doing his work with no stress.

    This video gave me goosebumps! You are literally speaking to me. I struggle with perfectionism in motherhood in general. Homeschooling is especially something I tend to want to perfect all the time! I do often try to remind myself to embrace the struggles as well. Thank u for sharing this.

    Mine are 7, 5, and 2 and most days I feel like me and the 7 year old aren’t doing enough…for the 5 year old I feel we need more one on one but hard with toddler.

    I feel like i needed to hear this 😊, i’ve been struggling with my oledest (7yrs), he just dont like math, he is taking Kumon classes 2 per week and he hate it. And we just paid 6 months in advance. The thing is i see a lot improvment , that’swhy we want he continue. But it’s getting harder for him every time. Counting , sustraction cwith no fingers is a challenge for him.

    • @momoflittleladies
      @momoflittleladies 11 місяців тому +2

      If he is learning with it and you have paid for it then I would make him do it. Not everything in life is fun, there are plenty of things he will be forced to do as an adult that are not enjoyable so spending 30 minutes a day doing math is not going to hurt him 😅 Just some encouragement from a long time homeschooling mom!

    • @OneBlessedMess
      @OneBlessedMess  11 місяців тому +2

      Can you possibly set up some sort of incentive system for him to help motivate him through the classes? I totally agree that sometimes our kiddos just need to stick out some not-so-fun things for their betterment, but I'd also be concerned about it putting a bad taste in his mouth about school in general! Perhaps some sort of rewards system would help "sweeten" the deal? ☺️

      I’d say just let him use his fingers. If that’s what he needs. I’m 41 and still use them. It really doesn’t matter in life. As long as he understands the concept, who cares if he needs assistance with his fingers? It’s the same thing as using an abacus or a number line (or a calculator like we do lol). It’s just another strategy to solve the problem. He won’t need them eventually. I don’t think the stress is worth it for either of you just bc a curriculum doesn’t want you to use fingers. You aren’t married to that curriculum. It’s just a guide. Let him enjoy math…with his fingers. Just my opinion.

      Thanks a lot mommas!! Today definetely he did not go to kumon classes, i didnt force him either, but we did practice at home (with fingers lol), i use my fingers too, and we let him rest cause he did our TGATB curriculum plus almost 2 kumon activities. He Was happy!😊 we hug him, cheers him up 🎉even my toddler gave him a hug. He almost cry but for good. He appreciated it, then we watched a movie.

    Did you figure out what your going to use for English? We are starting BJU next week with my middle daughter and if it goes well my oldest will do it next year (it’s cheaper than Abeka Academy which she is currently using).

    • @OneBlessedMess
      @OneBlessedMess  11 місяців тому

      I have looked into BJU as well! I think we are going to just keep "picking and choosing" TGTB grammar portions alongside Fix-It and IEW the rest of the year. A part of me wants to add in some sort of book study for my oldest, though, and if we do that I'm just going to drop TGTB for her altogether!
