have soften the car and Schwarz began doing good times. And what he said about it?"I always said, that hardening the setup is the roght way".That confirms what i wrote. And when Colin came here and stamped his autority and didnt let Schwarz giving him problems, the german leaders of the team were furious and maybe because of this, they decided to change Colins clutch in Australia too late for the mechanics to do it
It isn't only the Skoda that had the rings behind the wheel for shifting. Peugeot had the same thing since the 206 in 2003 I believe, until the factory team pulled out of the WRC in 2005 with the 307cc. Privateer teams continued to use it though I suspect. :)
The current Skoda team in the IRC and the S-WRC, is one of the most passionate teams in rallying today, and it's being run by the Czech's and not VW which would ruin their chances of winning. Skoda hopes to have the Fabia WRC 1.6T out by 2012.
The current S2000 cars will still have a 2.0L NA engine. NA is naturally aspirated. You're correct for that statement. Ford is still planning a 1.6T Fiesta for the 2011 season. All WRCars will be 1.6T for 2011. The FIA wanted cheaper WRCars and Ford and Citroen both wanted the 1.6T. That didn't stop M-Sport from making a Fiesta S2000.
VW might use the current Polo not the previous gen model. The S2000 is built on the previous gen Polo. It also has to be 1.6T though it can use a S2000 chassis. VW is planning on developing one from scratch not use an existing design. Thats what Kris Nissen says. VW would like to have the Monte back in the WRC though. All new S2000 homologations after 2011 must be 1.6T, according to the FIA. Hope this helps.
love the change in engine note when colin enables the the ant-lag before launch :-) "He's fast but the car seems to not have the power." due to using a 5-speed box?? maybe sound better with a 6 (not as laboured) doubt it would've been any quicker..
Skoda is going to build a new Fabia WRC based on the Fabia S2000 for 2011. It will have a 1.6T engine and mr. Hrabanek said that it can be used in all FIA championships.
I´m gonna compare Colin´s way of driving and Jan Kopecký´s way of driving now... Whilst Colin McRae preferes drifty driving, Jan Kopecký prefers cutty driving... The final result is that Colin´s way of drifty driving is better for rally fans and slower in final result, Jan Kopecký´s cutty driving is not that attractive for the fans but faster... Petr from the Škoda city, Mladá Boleslav, Czech, Europe...
The new 1.6T cars will have a 33 mm restrictor and the boost will be limited to 2.5bar. The new engine will have a FIA control box to make sure teams aren't cheating. Another reason why they'll be S2000 based is that they don't have to make a special vehicle just for that engine.
Yeah...Skoda is from my country so...they in fact used the nearly same engine as they had in Octavia....too old...but the German duo Schwarz - Metrich(chiefmechanic or what he was doing...)were stedily putting the team dovn..
The Fabia S2000 could be a WRCar if Skoda decides to put in a 1.6T. However it's up to them to do it. Maybe VW wont do the WRC. In 2011, no further development of the current S2000 cars will be allowed. So it's not just no new homologations. No new cars period with the 2.0 NA engine. The new WRcars will have an aero and spoiler kit to differentiate them from the S2000 cars. The 2011 engine regulations have already been finalized according to Ford and Malcolm Wilson.
is it just me or does colin have an odd pace note system? sometimes i hear 6 and it he takes it like a 4/5. Granted it does so minus but it'd be better to use 5+ or 4+ rather than 6- looking at some of those corners.
oDJOldskull u participate in local or state level rally events u keep racing there until u make a name for yourself and hopefully big teams find you and take you as a driver
he use the system of pace notes basicly known as "Degrees notes" that means that a 6 curve is the fastest and 1 curve is the slowest curve. I use the same in my notes and is very easy to pass from any car to any other, cause you are not speaking about the speed of the car, or the intense of the breaking, you are just telling the grade of the curve. you have many combinatios, like 1+, 4-, 5+ etc.. so you have like this -1 1 +1, -2 2 +2, etc..
Skoda isn't likely coming back to the WRC but their parent company VW is thinking about joining the WRC. VW wants more manufacturers, Monte Carlo, maybe Safari, and 12 events.
Rhet0rik It’s manual. Think this car had the shifter paddles behind the steering wheel so you can’t see it on this video, unfortunately. I realise you asked this question 8 years ago, hopefully you can now sleep at night 😉
VW will likely join in 2012 and they would like to see the Monte come back. It will take VW at least 18 months to develop a rally car. It will likely be the Polo.
I think from octavia was a big step into Fabia, but the car was developed wrongly.Just before Auriol could do something,he was dropped out(despite another year contract)and who came in to replace?Fucking Armin Schwarz, who really had no idea how to set this car up.he was known as a "Mr. Hard Setup",his setups were always hard. That is also why Paasonen and Tuohino(who did well several times drivig for Ford)suddenly dropped their performances - they had no chance to setup the car.Once the mechanics
No. I have never seen anyone drive a Fabia like that. Not even Paasonen in Finland 2004. Not even Hirvonen in Japan 2005 or not even Ekström in Sweden in 2006.
I love the calm before the storm, thanks for leaving in the first 20 seconds
two years on from when i first saw this and it remains possibly one of the finest 10 minutes you'll ever watch on youtube!
Imagine a full season for Colin in the Skoda with proper backing, one of the great motorsport 'what ifs' in my humble opinion...
Nearly happened in 2006
He refused them at the start of 05 in the hopes of a better ride, sad, he could've done SO MANY underdog drives that year
don't think iv'e ever seen someonedrive a Fabia in that way. Colin is a true legend!
two legends in that car...
we forget nicky grist, but he is one of the best co-drivers...

The last full stage of that rally

You can’t use not homologated parts in your car which were not hmlogated in your cars specyfication.
@TimothyParadox1 Grist always said "well done" when Colin survived such a situation as this was
That car sounds like a mad hornet!!
There are two rings behind the steering wheel which he uses to shift. I once read about it in a magazine, but I can't find it on the interwebs.
00:17 - 00:19 What is that buzz sound thingy of the Skoda Fabia and why it is sounds like that?🤨
this is MADNESS!!!!!!
Colin,the greatest driver ever!
if you put attention there are notes like "6+ breaking and 4 right long" so, it not means that he can accelerate, it only mean the grade of the curve.
Well, maybe Paasonen in Finland 2004...but Colin was a class of his own...
@MrBowlofFruit there is a countdown, called by the navigator.
4 years gone.
best rally driver ever.

legend...please post the halfway stage, colin was the main draw for spectators on this rally, the skoda service area was packed.
Colin era il miglior pilota di rally di sempre!!!
I cried when mc Rae passed and left motor sports
legend
How did he catch that? Amazing driver

Impressive!!!!
cant we trade colin for ken block?we need this guy back!!!
love the change in engine note when colin enables the the ant-lag before launch :-)
"He's fast but the car seems to not have the power."
due to using a 5-speed box?? maybe sound better with a 6 (not as laboured) doubt it would've been any quicker..
6
Legendary man
great video... thanks
It is his ols system, cause this was i think the first time he drove 5speed WRC car

Yea your right, it's based on the Octavia WRC engine and the whole car is barely a step up from an Octavia Evo3
Colin didn't die, he is now The Stig from Top Gear.
how can you drift without using the manual break ?
Mcrae the best!!!!!!
so who took over from colin>? loeb? ken block?
Yeah...Skoda is from my country so...they in fact used the nearly same engine as they had in Octavia....too old...but the German duo Schwarz - Metrich(chiefmechanic or what he was doing...)were stedily putting the team dovn..
Colin makes that little skoda sound like a 6r4

The worst thing about this is that it was the stage after this one that killed Michael Park.
Such a shame that the car let him down would have been great to see we’re he would have finished
Where is it???
Great Britain
Who is the Co. Driver? He sounds like Robert Reid...
is it just me or does colin have an odd pace note system? sometimes i hear 6 and it he takes it like a 4/5. Granted it does so minus but it'd be better to use 5+ or 4+ rather than 6- looking at some of those corners.
Great vid. I have a question that bugs me since longer time. How do rally drivers practice? Like let's say they are novice and begin their career.
oDJOldskull u participate in local or state level rally events u keep racing there until u make a name for yourself and hopefully big teams find you and take you as a driver
Skoda has been working on their 1.6T fabia S2000, but VW is planning to join the WRC.
MTS Route 20 Fanner now vw is leaving :(
what kind of steering is he using?
standard - stock steering wheel in Skoda Fabia WRC
he use the system of pace notes basicly known as "Degrees notes" that means that a 6 curve is the fastest and 1 curve is the slowest curve. want more mcrae from wales 2005!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bet Nicky Grist always wore dark underwear.
I don't think so.. With Colin behind steering wheel he was and is one calm cold blood guy.
Skoda isn't likely coming back to the WRC but their parent company VW is thinking about joining the WRC. VW wants more manufacturers, Monte Carlo, maybe Safari, and 12 events.
11 years later, and they did pretty well.
Where does it say Resolfen in the title?knobcheese
Škoda is the BEST !!!
well done :)
i think it is changing from green to orange to red
Is this Resolfen?
madness
Loose is fast not like those tame NASCAR guys.
2:25 god....that so dangerous...............................
Daniele Pirola it’s ironic the way he died, really..
Is this automatic or can you not see him shift???
Rhet0rik It’s manual. Think this car had the shifter paddles behind the steering wheel so you can’t see it on this video, unfortunately.
I realise you asked this question 8 years ago, hopefully you can now sleep at night 😉
GOD

Driver from god...
@psalmsninetyone semi automatic i think ..
give block a couple years and he gonna do some...but never get better than mcrae
yes, yes it is (read the fucking title)
Es increible la diferencia de copilotaje entre McRae y Sainz, una va sobreinformado al detalle y al otro solo le dicen 'six left'
No. I have never seen anyone drive a Fabia like that. Not even Paasonen in Finland 2004. Not even Hirvonen in Japan 2005 or not even Ekström in Sweden in 2006.
