its not developers that are 'lazy'....its that CEOs want the most profit for least amount of work and overhead possible and they're actually making a separate industry using AI (like the mobile game industry) but trying to sell us ACTUAL gamers the same low quality low effort low fun d0gsht. AI cannot create anything from scratch of value that is quality...its all piece meal and/or just straight out stolen. Its a tool at best and a crutch at worst. Guess which direction AI users are typically going to go....the crutch.
This is was a lot of developers were warning about in regards to A.I. not being a true replacement for human work, if anything its a crutch to do exactly as you have said
the problem is imo not the quality of games grafics, but the lack of professionalism dedication and serious from devs and company also not understanding what most gamers are expecting. most AAA companies nowdays think they know better, than the customer, + only life service focused products, is also mostly the reason why games are unfinished and bugy. Instead keep focusing on most traditional solo or online but complete games, perfect example is recently B.M.Wukong About grafics and FPS issues, imo i would rater play this next 10 years games having enough decent quality but good FPS on a PS5 or good gaming PC , example like PS3 PS4 quality games like GTA5, Dead or alive 5, Tekken 6, Street Fighter 5, Ninja Gaiden 3, God of Wars 4,this quality was already good enough to look realistic but also keeping a good FPS performance, but nowdays grafics are involving faster than performance mostly on consoles, and in order to have a very decent performance on PC you need to buy an +/-1200 dollar gaming PC. Look at Sony PS5 pro console situation 900 dollars for all accessories included, can't even run his few available games at 60 fps, mostly only 30 for the price of an slightly better performance PC at 900 dollars. AT THE END, why botering wasting millions on very high grafic products if the game can't be run decently ? this last 5 and next 5 years of gaming generation is an total mess + most companies running by feminists devs destroying even more the beautyful world of gaming
Definitely a valid point, but another thing to keep in mind is the majority of games are being made with a Switch version in mind right now, and I don't think that will be changing for a good while even after the Switch 2 comes out. And even then most developers will be making their games with a Switch 2 version in mind, so as long as Nintendo's consoles remain the most popular on the market most developers will be making it possible for their games to run on it if they want to get the most profits from their games. I'm also not talking much about the big AAA games which are becoming a much smaller portion of the market because of diminishing returns in pursuing more powerful graphics I'm talking about indie to AA games. Falcom won't be making a Trails game that can only be played with a 50 series card. Heck I don't even think they're making their games with DLSS in mind so they aren't going to fall into that pitfall of relying on that to make their games run better. Not to mention a lot of indie games are going for more pixel art, PS1/N64, or PS2 like graphics instead so most of those games won't have any issue running on the Switch or even older hardware. Aesthetics are more important than power to gamers, and while DLSS is nice for shoring up the framerate issues that come with AAA games pushing graphics to their limit it isn't really necessary with 99% of games that are coming out right now. Heck I'm still using my 2080, which is about on par with the PS5's power, from 5 years ago and haven't run into any new games that don't run fine at 1440p and quite a lot of PS4 level games run great at 4K max settings with that card. I honestly haven't had a reason to upgrade to a 40 series card and if the price of the 50 series shoots up further I might consider just getting a 40 series when the prices inevitably start coming down after that series comes out. If a developer makes it impossible to play their game on anything but a 50 series card I guess I'm SOL on being able to play that, but I've got a Steam library of 1,500 games that run just fine on my current 2080, so oh well I guess I won't play that one game if it's got a ridiculous requirement like that.
AI is perfect for voices of NPC and "meaningless" voices in games , thats insanely cheaper and it works great to have text to speech with many different voices for basically no cost.
one idea i have about the DLSS technology is, imagine Sony or Xbox working on an DLSS BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE console version, imagine if AI able to upscale a bit more all those PS2 and PS3 games to an polished grafic quality as an PS4, this way some old games could comeback without devs needing to completely polish the remaster or remake version, in other words AI polishing old games in real time using DLSS tech or an type of 3D object analizing technology able to redrawing hires layers on top of the old lowres 3D models in the old games. Metal gear solid loking like metal gear 3, or metal gear 3 lokking like metal gear 5, making a previous title gen game looking like the next title gen game.
Well most Playstation users are used to not playing the majority of their games due to the amount of cutscenes and QTE they have.. at least they are fully prepared for AI to play thes games for you !!! lol Actually come to think of it... havent Sony got patents for this very thing to happen in their future games...
Ai will NEVER replace human creativity. Dlss doesn't work the same way as generative ai. Besides for these companies too make money they need tight control over the ip, something that won't be possible with generative ai as you can not copy right ai generated materials.
Nothing is stopping anyone from making a game though, sure, if all you do is play games that require a high end graphics card, then yeah... but it's not like people need disk pressing machines to distribute software anymore, anyone can publish a game and anyone with an internet connection can download it, so there will always be new games that don't require high end machines. what I think is going to happen is that we went from big mainframe multi-user systems in the 1950's to 1970's, and everyone connected to them using dumb terminals, because hardware was too expensive for everyone to have their own computer, to hardware getting cheap enough for everyone to have their own machine, and now we're moving to somewhere in-between, where most people can't afford super high end hardware, but can afford a basic computer that can do tasks like running youtube or photoshop, but not the most graphically intense games. I think cloud gaming, where the grunt work is done elsewhere is the future, though i hope some other company like intel or amd, or a new company figures out a product to compete with nvidia, monopolies are depressing, literally.
the unaffordability is manufactured its not a reality...they could make it affordable if the industry actually depended on it but most consumers are stupid pay pigs and don't know when to vote with their wallets
funny how devs get tools that in theory should make creating games easier and faster and yet +5/8years of dev time is common. Not worried about dlss, remember when DX12 games came out? and suddenly your dx11 win7 monster had to be upgraded if ya wanted to play. Unfortunetly, at some point we have to move on. Otherwise we're gonna be stuck like consoles :D (joke joke)
The industry is filled with people that just want to "make games" , but they dont love it, they dont even like to play their own games, they dont even like the genre they make, they are just a worker in a big company and get a paycheck. If your company is full of such people that have their own agenda and goals, you dont make good games, you just waste money on all these agendas. We still get good games, as there are still people that LOVE their games and strife to make the best they can, which is almost always driven by a CEO of a company that outright loves the games they make and push their own financial risk to produce it. For indie games there are a tiny amount that are actually good, and the vast majority is absolute trash, but the ones that are great self-advertise by word of mouth, they sell over a long time as they are simply good games.
I don't see what the issue is. This sounds a bit like complaining that in order to play new playstation games you have to buy a PS5 instead of playing the game on a PS4.
This is a 100% valid argument, DLSS as technology is awesome but it is leading to a point where developers have become lazy.

ROFL, We have graphic people who will not make a pretty woman, and now we are pissed at AI who would.

I am not worried about Outlaws needing DLSS 3 to play,
that is what

FSR from AMD is also good.

Isn`t it just like the pixel shaders 3.0 at thhhe time ? In other words - it`s nothing new.
