A money tip that I try to do now is to save the savings :) If I, for example, save 50% on a tshirt, I will put the other 50% in my savings account. Or if someone decides to buy me a drink, I'll put the costs for the drink in my savings account. Works great :)
I catch the cold water from my shower in a bucket until the temperature is right (I think it's almost 3liters per bucket). I use that water for: my plants, to boil eggs, heat water for tea,.. The bucket is an eyesore, it takes up space,.. but heck. I save water and thus money. Thanks for sharing your tips! Love this channel
That is great! I'm so glad to hear someone else does this! Water is such a precious and finite resource. If more people tried to remain aware of this, and acted on it accordingly, it could really make a positive difference.
Another favourite of mine is an old WWII saying: “Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.” It helps me to be a lot more mindful of my purchases! We really don’t need as much as sometimes we think we do.
Not really unusual, but whenever I’m debating on buying something in a store that I don’t really need, I like to remind myself that I can save this money for gas money instead. Buying a full tank of gas for $30 will allow me to go see people I love more often, and go on little adventures that’ll create memories. That’s more worth it than buying a $30 shirt that will make me temporarily happy.
9 months later and UK based and a full tank of gas for $30 sounds like a dream. £1.77 a Litre of diesel means it's about £70 to fill the tank of a normal estate car.
Yessss! My husband and I freeze all our meat and just defrost what we need, because it doesn't stay fresh for long, especially chicken and fish. We also put our bread in the fridge. For my skincare products though, I like to buy my next bottle/jar whenever it goes on sale, whether I've finished my current one or not. I find that if I wait until the end, then I have no choice but to pay full price for a replacement if it's not on sale. Great video. I've just subscribed! 💕
My favorite way to save money when it comes to shopping is to opt for grocery order pick-up. This saves me from going into the store to shop and possibly buy something random on the shelf that I don't need. My second favorite is swapping out all of my single-use items for reusable options. It's eco-friendly and saves me a lot of money!
@LivesSimpleWoman I wish I had delivery service where I live, but they don't deliver that far out of the city. Regardless, I do love shopping for groceries from home versus in the store, too!
Pick up orders for grocery have been a game changer I find I am buying a heck of a lot less just from walking around the only thing I have struggle with where I live is finding good fruit
1. Refrigerate or freeze food items 2. Only buy replacements 3. Never pay full price for haircuts 4. Plan your driving 5. Walk out empty handed 6. Buy large meals 7. Buy used when possible 8. Sell rather than donate 9. Gift giving lottery 10. Shop with a time limit
I totally agree with the buy large meals. My friends don't understand it but I always have take home food. I have to disagree with the don't buy until you need idea. The items I use on a regular basis I try to get when they are on sale or I have coupons. Stocking actually saves money for my family.
this can also depend on family size.....I track what I use regularly so I can see how fast I use it up. Those items like my hair conditioner, when on sale I buy 3
Walking out of a store empty handed resonated with me and it's ok to do this. Decorating and crafting with items I already have on hand or from charity and/or $1 stores definitely saves money. Really like your video!🌼
Yes, no guilt in walking out of a store emptyhanded. I also used to feel guilty or think the employees would be looking at me funny, like a criminal lol. I'm trying to be even more diligent about staying out of stores unless there is something I actually need.
I have been focusing on higher quality items that will last me longer if I take care of it properly. That way I dont have to buy, for example, new sheets every 3-4 months. Also purchased metal drinking straws. I'm learning to be more intentional with many of my purchases.
I’m an international student. This is a really new piece of information for me and I’m excited to find out that my local salon school has services like such. I’ll also share with others who would want to spend less on hair. I have to say the cost of hair cut, dye and perm stuff plus tips and taxes turned to be so expensive here in the country and I had to diy for years.
We get like a costco package of bread, set 1 loaf on the counter and freeze the other until it's needed, then just set the 2nd loaf out on the counter and it's defrosted in a couple hours
Oh my gosh, the guilt about going into a shop (especially a smaller, quiet or family run business) and not buying anything used to be a nightmare for me! I'm glad you're weird like this, too! 😉😉😉
No paper towels. Just get those microfiber towels in dollarstores, that you can reused and wipe down surfaces. As an adult, I sometimes still bring my laundry home when I visit the parents.. lol saves 6 bucks for the week. I don't drive, and try to bike everywhere, so that's a huge chunk of money saved on gas, car payments and insurance.
One way I like to save money is by either diluting or using less than the recommended amount with household cleaners. Often times detergents, dish soaps, cleansers, etc are super concentrated already, and I find that my using less or diluting the product, I stretch how much use I can get out of a bottle or container before having to replace it, and the product itself is still just as effective 🙂
We have celiacs disease so I cook everything from scratch in order to save on our grocery bill because individual ingredients come out to be far cheaper than pre-packaged foods.
I loved when you said return on investment meals. I actual do that too, and it saves you time on cooking when you are tired, and don't feel like cooking.
Yesterday I walked to my local highstreet with the intention of going thrifting for the first time this year. At the 1st location I got a call from my husband that I had left my purse at home. I thought ok that's fine I'll just window shop for today, any items I like the look of can wait till I return and I can use that time to really think about whether I want them or need them.
I'm the polar opposite of the 'early adopter.' My mobile phone is finally reaching the end of its life cycle and I'm looking for a new one. The thrill of replacing an old phone is that virtually any low-range new or refurbished phone will represent a huge performance improvement.
Very thoughtful and innovative ways to save money. And I am going to start practicing most of these. I am not really a minimalist but trying to practice minimalism. And the goal is to attain financial freedom ASAP. Off late I have created a lot of organisers around my house using the delivery packages that we receive from amazon and likes. This has saved me huge amount that otherwise I would have spent if buying fancy organisers from stores. I have also started following the 36 hours rule. If I am tempted to buy something, I hold that temptation for 36 hours and evaluate after 36 hours if I am still as eager to buy the stuff. 90% of the time, I don't feel the temptation anymore. For my kids, I exchange story books and toys with like minded people in my apartment complex or borrow from library. Pre planning meals and food prep on one day for the rest of the days of the week has helped me avoid food wastage tremendously.
These are fantastic tips!! We definitely do the freezing tip when it comes to not throwing away bananas! When they start to turn, we either make banana bread or freeze for summer smoothies :)
Very interesting content and ideas. Thanks for sharing. When it comes to replacements, not everything needs to be replaced. If you really don't need to replace the shirt that's beyond wearing, just own one less shirt. And before you throw out the one you can't wear anymore, think about what else you can use it for. Can it be turned into a halter top, or headband, or scarf, handbag, set of napkins, baby clothing, doll clothing, etc. There are those who will go as far as unweaving the threads and re-weaving the good ones to make fabric for something else. (I won't do that though.) There are those who "unknit", or take out the stitches in knitted sweaters and use the yarn to knit something else. These are some extreme ways people continue to make use of what they have instead of buying new...or even buying "new" secondhand things and bringing them into their homes. As I heard you use the words, "...just donate..." a few times, it made me think that you might not realize the financial gain (along with the social, emotional and compassionate gains) that's possible when making donations. At this point, as far as I know, contributions in cash and in kind are still tax deductible. You'd have to keep track of what you donated, to what agency, get their address and make sure an employee signs a receipt you can keep. You have to write down, or itemize, the things you're donating. The organization you donate to won't do that for you. You also have to find out the fair market value of the items you donate. Check with IRS for that. They allow a lot more than you'd think. Disclaimer: I'm not a tax or financial professional of any kind. I've had really great tax advisors and learned from them. Don't use any suggestions I make without consulting your own tax advisor, who know your particular situation and knows the changes each year to new tax laws. I am suggesting you may want to check into it. I enjoyed listening to you and am glad you're on a good financial path.
Love this! Great content! I try to do price comparisons from a few stores on items when buy frequently to see who has the best price. I also sometimes choose delayed shipping on Amazon to earn digital media credit. It helps pay for our movie rentals. We also make our own laundry detergent. Buy movie theater tickets on discount days. Make coffee and favorite coffee drinks at home. Workout for free using apps or UA-cam videos. See if the library has books you want before you buy them (secondhand if possible). Buy used cars with low mileage, maintain them well and drive them for a long time.
I also freeze and refrigerate things! I used to despise bread in the fridge, but now if I make a sandwich by the time I eat it I find it’s already room temp! Also no more mold after only a couple of weeks.
Great ideas. The first car I ever bought was a Toyota Corolla and I loved it. I had well over 200,000 miles on it and only got rid of it because it totally rusted out.
I know this is not considered minimalist to some but I coupon for things my family needs and use cash apps to save tons of money and I'll stock up till the sale comes back around so we actually use every thing we buy I can't see myself spending money on items I can get for free and If I have more than I need I give away to family and friends
Good tips. I only put bread in the freezer as it tends to go stale in the fridge, onions in fridge to reduce tears with chopping but never put potatoes in the fridge cause it makes them sweet.
Yep, I haven't been to a hairdresser in over a year 😀 Cut the ends myself, although it definitely helps that I'm growing my hair out right now. My aunt was a hairdresser as well, so we only paid a few euros as we felt it wouldn't be right to use her skills for free 😊 Sadly, she passed away nine years ago. So the first time I actually have been to a salon, I was 18 😂
Something that I love to do is to use my credit cards for all of my regular purchases, and then turn those points into gift cards for Amazon and Starbucks. I wouldn't normally spend any money at Starbucks unless I have a gift card to use.
I used to always buy green onions over and over again at the grocery store. This time- I bought the green onions and after using half of them, I put them in a cup of water on the window sill in the kitchen and they're growing. I will be doing this with all my greens from now on :)
Wow such a great video with great information on money saving. Also awesome to see ythat your also in Charlotte !! we’ve just moved too Huntersville and now I can walk to work which saved us a lot of gas from that commute weekly.
For your #9-drawing names-I know this won’t work for everyone but on my husbands side of the family, some 13 years ago my husband and I were tighter on money (not from choice per se but still) and Christmas had gotten out of hand buying gifts for so many adults -there were only 2 grandchildren thankfully at the time-so I went to my sister in law then we presented my idea to the family and everyone jumped on it and it had been a blast….each year one set of the family makes a decision of a place to donate money and everyone sends them $50 per person (or whatever they can or want to give). We have a book we write it all down in and on Christmas Eve we present it to the family. Everyone waits so excitedly to see where the donation is to each year. There have been years we have found matching funds through the organization. We have done Ronald McDonald House, Heart Association, St Judes, orphanages, Cleft palette repair organizations, you name it. We do this instead of gifts. It feels so good to know we are helping others, leaving a legacy of doing this for the future generations of our family and all the while not collecting more “stuff”.
Agree with walking out of a store empty-handed; I’ve honestly rarely felt guilt over this! I’m so picky when it comes to things I buy, that it’s common for me to walk out without anything, and I never go shopping just to look anymore. I always go to a store with a specific need in mind. Also, there are now BuyNothing groups where you can ask your local neighbors for something you need, and many people either have an extra one they can give you or that you can borrow, or they just want to get rid of theirs. Great way to extend life of items and save money.
I’ve saved so much money by not celebrating Christmas 🎄 That’s no gift giving, no decorations and no cards and I don’t expect nor want any. 💰 💴 💵 Savings galore!
I just started using that night cream since I saw it a few months ago in your routine video. I LOVE it and just bought my second one because I have two nights left of product in my first one!!
I've read that it's better to store bread in the freezer. "Bread stored in the refrigerator will dry out and become stale much faster than bread stored at room temperature. For longer-term storage, you should freeze bread."
I've never heard this one but it works for me. When I think of something I want I go right to Amazon and shop for it, and take my time to find the right one with the right price. And there it ends. Mostly. I put it in my cart and when I actually need something like dishwasher powder that extra thing will be there and I will think through the pro's and con's of getting it. Usually it stays in the cart but if I decide I want it, its there. I have items in my cart or save for later from 3 years ago-turns out I really could live without it.
I hear a lot of people say that grocery pickup saves them money. For me, it saves time only. I'm convinced grocery pickup costs more. The prices I see in the online cart vs the prices I see at the store are slightly different. I get too many substitutions, damaged products, and "out of stock" products I then go inside and find myself to make grocery pickup worth it.
Potatoes should not be refrigerated especially if you are a diabetic as starch changes to sugar faster. Beauty schools are a way to save. A few things I am unwilling to buy used are shoes and I like to buy new under clothes.
While going to a hair school to get your hair cute is a good idea to save money, be aware this may NOT be a good option if your hair is already damaged or needs additional care. Or even if you want a more complex procedure done then a hair cut. I use to go to one a long time ago and had my hair fried and damaged badly. My mom also had her neck burned badly by chemicals from a perm. The thing is you are getting a different student each time, you can get one that knows what they are doing and one that doesn’t. I remember also getting one that didn’t listen to what I what at all and my hair much shorter then I wanted, she just kept saying I know what will look good. Personally because I have had so many issues with people really messing up my hair (including turning it green, and not a cool green on purpose but a mossy ugly green) I now I only go to one person who I trust and who knows my hair.
Great video! I really loved the first one, freezing fruit and food is actually very smart, thanks for all the tips, I will definitely use some of them, greetings
I can’t wear second hand shoes. Everyone’s fair is a bit different and how you walk in your shoes determines how and where they wear. I did this one time and had excruciating pain in my feet.
I use "brown water" to water all my plants usually from either dishwater or bath as all my products are safe for plants as well. I use the flashfood app (food that is abnormal, close to expiry, smaller size fruit) and clearance food which I freeze and although the water is more of sustainable thing rather then a money thing, it probably saves me a bit
5:00 walking out empty handed is a good one that nobody brings up. Like the sellers don’t give a shit, they are just there to help. Also you aren’t obligated to buy anything.
One thing you should do is when you are going to go grocery shopping/run errands. Check if any items are going to need replacements within a week. Instead of running out just for that one item. As you said. Plan driving and don't go anywhere unnecessarily.
I upload any receipts to fetch rewards for cash back and use points to get gift cards to favorite places. Also, my credit card has a cash back and I put that money in savings.
Thank you for the tips! I have been looking at several high yield savings account and am trying to make a decision. May I ask which one you ended up going with? Thanks for the great video! :)
I will always use a hairdresser. you look around and you see a lot of people who should use one it is well worth the money! I like having my hair cut and forgetting about it until next time. you can't do this unless you have a good hair dresser. They work very hard and earn every cent!
I'm familiar with freezing items like bread and meat, but I did not know it's possible to freeze things like spinach and berries. I shop for one, but the containers of spinach are SO BIG it usually goes bad before I can eat it all. @_@ So thanks for the info! ❤️
It all depends on your income if you got a really good job then it’s a lot easier than if your on minimum wage bills are so high in the uk at the mo when your not on a lot it’s really hard to save when all your money goes on bills x
Hi ! I love your videos, they're useful and relaxing at the same time. Could you add timestamps in your following videos ? I feel like it's the only thing that's missing to make your videos perfect ! Have a great day ! ☀️
I usually out about 1/4 of my income into my savings the day I get paid, then all my bills are accounted for within 5 days of being paid so whatever is left for the month is what I can spend. If I have any left over by the time I get paid the following month, then that money will also go into my savings. Some months I can put another 1/4 of my income away, other times it’s another couple hundred. It works a treat!,
I've been growing my hair out so I save money by just not getting a hair cut. I don't use heat on my hair and I only wash it once a week so I don't get split ends, so I don't really need to get it trimmed. I also give my husband and kids hair cuts at home so that saves money too.
I do the same, my hair is long but it's easy to trim. Check out you tube videos on the unicorn method of ✂️ your own hair. It's sooo easy I do it every 6 months
Bread does better in the freezer, especially fresh baked bread, unthaws tasting just as good as it went in while the fridge can speed up the time until it goes stale
Every so often if I am craving a binge shop I have walked thru a store and filled up a shopping cart with anything and everything I 'want' and then abandoned it just to retrain myself that I should feel NO guilt to walk out of a shop completely emptyhanded. it feels sooooo good. It feels like a free shopping spree hahaha
I save money by minimizing my cash on hand, it really helps me mind my spending habits. The rest of my income goes to bank accounts for necessary payments and investments.
Great ideas...but I don't buy used sneakers or running shoes...possible athletes foot might lurk in them. Years ago I was given sandles...bad move...got athletes foot!
Or you could take it further.... Instead of ordering the large meal, eat at home. In less time than it takes to go to a restaurant and order a meal, you could cook the meal from scratch at a fraction of the price. Instead of discount haircuts, you could stop cutting your hair altogether. I did this and discovered that waist length hair is surprisingly easy to care for. In addition to planning your car trips, you could get rid of the car. Occasionally hiring a car is cheaper than owning one. Offer gas money and hitch a ride with a friend. Instead of selling your stuff, stop buying things you don't need in the first place. You get the idea.
Make homemade toothpaste with Diatomceous Earth , filtered water and a few drops of peppermint oil . Cheaper, healthier and not tested on vulnerable animals 🤗
Thank you for all these tips! Unfortunately, I waste money on food because I have a tiny fridge and an even smaller freezer, but I think I will try to freeze my fruits like bananas ;) And since I'm on my minimalism journey, I've saved so much more money! I didn't think it would be possible :)
A money tip that I try to do now is to save the savings :) If I, for example, save 50% on a tshirt, I will put the other 50% in my savings account. Or if someone decides to buy me a drink, I'll put the costs for the drink in my savings account. Works great :)

i catch my water also but use it to flush the toilet at least 3 times

I also freeze and refrigerate things! I used to despise bread in the fridge, but now if I make a sandwich by the time I eat it I find it’s already room temp! Also no more mold after only a couple of weeks.
I love the way you think and you will go so far - an inspiration to the world for young couples - keep it up
Great ideas.
So relatable! I love buying secondhand and only replacing items! Great video! 😁
Oh that’s awesome!! 🤍

I like the specific things you can freeze like berries. I'd love to see more specifics!
I used to always buy green onions over and over again at the grocery store. This time- I bought the green onions and after using half of them, I put them in a cup of water on the window sill in the kitchen and they're growing. I will be doing this with all my greens from now on :)
I'm going to have to start doing this. Thanks for the tip! I buy green onions all the time and they go bad before I can finish them.
I absolutely love your videos Ashlynne! They are always so calming.
From the UK ❤️
Oh you’re so sweet! Thank you!
Love all of these suggestions,so helpful
oh I love it! Saving is my passion.
Good tips.
I’m stocked up on skincare & shampoo due to hyperinflation.
I enjoy making money online, there is this good feelings it gives me
Yes everyone knows what makes sense to them
How have you been doing with this scam?
Great video! I really loved the first one, freezing fruit and food is actually very smart, thanks for all the tips, I will definitely use some of them, greetings
So like my ways. Split all my meals. Love to buy secondhand. Thanks.
Hey Ashlynne! Just wanted to let you know that a lot of breads actually go had faster in the Fridge!
Wow the thing with gifts is so cool!
Great video Ashlynne! Love all the tips
Go market ask for bacon for fry up as how many need ie 4 slices, 3 slices in supermarket its controlled and cheese cheaper
I cooked a small roast & put the leftovers in the freezer for a future roast beef stroganoff " I do not like food waste so thankful for the freezer
Shop with a time limit is my favorite tip from the list
5:00 walking out empty handed is a good one that nobody brings up. Like the sellers don’t give a shit, they are just there to help. Also you aren’t obligated to buy anything.
THNKS so much......
Mam
Love the way you are
Left handed writing 🥰🥰
Getting the biggest meal, I love it!👍😉
One thing you should do is when you are going to go grocery shopping/run errands.
Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Ashlynne!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Happy Memorial Day!!
You too, Ashlynne!
Happy Memorial Day!!
Thanks Ashlynne for sharing your tips. We do some of the things you mentioned.❤
I'm familiar with freezing items like bread and meat, but I did not know it's possible to freeze things like spinach and berries.
I shop for one, but the containers of spinach are SO BIG it usually goes bad before I can eat it all. @_@
So thanks for the info! ❤️
The environmental savings is huge and not always considered.
It all depends on your income if you got a really good job then it’s a lot easier than if your on minimum wage bills are so high in the uk at the mo when your not on a lot it’s really hard to save when all your money goes on bills x
Yes. I’m all about saving money 🥰
Hi ! I love your videos, they're useful and relaxing at the same time.
Could you add timestamps in your following videos ? I feel like it's the only thing that's missing to make your videos perfect !
Have a great day ! ☀️
I loved how real this advices are
I only cut my hair 2-3 times a year. A pixie cut each time.
I managed to save a decent chunk of change by living a zero-waste lifestyle.
Bread does better in the freezer, especially fresh baked bread, unthaws tasting just as good as it went in while the fridge can speed up the time until it goes stale
Lol I just cut my hair tonight, my mom thinks I’m crazy every time I ask her to check the back and trim it. 💇🏽♀️
Any recommendations on saving/buying a car
Oof, the capitalism guilt. That we can’t walk out of a store empty-handed. I love doing it now. They don’t needs my monies.
Thank you for your suggestions love your videos ❤❤
Lovely video! But I have to say this: the way you wrapped that gift will haunt my dreams 😅😱
I save money by minimizing my cash on hand, it really helps me mind my spending habits. The rest of my income goes to bank accounts for necessary payments and investments.
I hardly ever use cash now but when I do I put all my small bills into my son and daughter's savings accounts!
great video, thanks for the inspo!
Great ideas...but I don't buy used sneakers or running shoes...possible athletes foot might lurk in them. Years ago I was given sandles...bad move...got athletes foot!
Good ideas❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have gone to a Chinese place in town and the amount provided in the meal is enough for two or three meals
❤️Very intresting videos❤️
_ BY THE WAY LOVE YOUR VIDEOS _
LOVE FROM INDI 🇮🇳
Hai!🥝🥝
Good info 👍🏾
Hi! Im from Philippines, may I ask if the NerdWallet also available for us?
Loving your vids as always 🥰❤
I do refrigerate my bread..
And do not like buying anymore stuff I do not need.
Clutter Free.
Thank you for all these tips! Unfortunately, I waste money on food because I have a tiny fridge and an even smaller freezer, but I think I will try to freeze my fruits like bananas ;) And since I'm on my minimalism journey, I've saved so much more money! I didn't think it would be possible :)
