As great as this is, the live at Montreal 1981 is absolutely mind blowing. This was Freddie's gospel song a tribute to Aretha Franklin who he absolutely admired. Queen was very involved in the production process of their music, they made all the final decisions and went over every note together. They were a very professional band and very concerned about what they put onto their albums. Thank you for reacting to this song
This song was recorded by the same multilayering technique like the Bohemian Rhapsody. Freddie mentioned in an interview: „For Somebody To Love, we had the same 3 people singing on the big choir section, but I think it had a different kind of technical approach because it was a gospel way of singing - which was different to us. That track was me going a bit mad. I just wanted to write something in the Aretha Franklin kind of mode. I was inspired by the gospel approach she had on her earlier albums. Although it might sound like the same approach on the harmonies, it is very different in the studio because it’s a different range.”
Yes this song was carefully constructed. This came out after Bohemian Rhapsody and Freddie said himself that he thought Somebody to Love was a better song, from a song writing standpoint, than BoRhap. Great reaction!! Looking forward to more Queen. May I suggest Queen - White Queen - Live @ the Hammersmith Odeon 1975. Or the studio version on March of the Black Queen. Both truly amazing songs and musicianship!!
Articulating about music can be really hard, finding the right words , you do a great job of it! A band like Queen, especially, is hard to describe, I think. They don't sound like any other band! Great job.
This is true masterpiece ! I agree, the choir effect in the backround is awesome. IMO, no other band did harmony better than QUEEN. May I suggest "White Queen", live from The Odeon (1974) for your next QUEEN reaction. It's epic! Thanks much for this one.😊☮
great reaction. you know, a lot of the fun of Queen is watching them. It's hard to explain unless you do. On your own, watch the OFFICIAL Video of this one since you're reacting to it's vocal. BUT for another reaction -please consider "Somebody To Love - LIVE AT MONTREAL 1981". impressive
My favorite song in the whole world!! This is also a favorite of Freddie’s ❤️❤️ He wrote it inspired by the great Aretha Franklin! Check out CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE (inspired by Elvis) LIFE IS REAL (inspired by John Lennon) INNUENDO (inspired by Led Zeppelin). Queen is & will always be brilliant! 👑👑
Great reaction, love this track, highly recommend the live version. Queen - Somebody To Love - HD Live - 1981 Montreal

"A Day at the Races" and "A Night at the Opera" are essential albums to have.

Great job.
Many people believe the sound in 4:29 is the sound of Brian May’s guitar wailing, but it is in fact, the voice of drummer roger taylor
His inspiration for the last note at 5:31 was Aretha’s “Amazing Grace.” He was heavily inspired by that song and whole album.
