- Sky's Beth Rigby assesses Rishi's Sunak's speech after he met with his German counterpart Olaf Scholz.
Beth said this was an opportunity for the Prime Minister to be "back on the world stage" and wanting to focus on the war in Ukraine.

We all know he cant be bothered and this is just tory properganda playing with the uk wallet.
The fact is, if war breaks out and we haven't adjusted our defence spending incrementally, we'll either lose a major European conflict (which would be catastrophic) or we simply won't have ANY money to give toward health and stuff (which would be equally catastrophic). People do not seem to understand just how much defence spending HAS to be ramped up in times of actual war on our borders - 2.5% would be nothing, we'd be talking more like 25%+ if we're lucky. We have to look ahead at the potential worst situation and the more we spend now, both the less we'll be effected by the worst situation if it comes to that but also the less likely it will be that it will come to that.

Sunak's joint presser with Scholz revealed two newbie leaders who've clearly memorised the domestic rhetoric, but still can't find their international sea legs. I really can't imagine anyone walked away thinking: thank God Rishi and Olaf are on the case.

Except that it is the Europeans free riding off the US as usual. The US is thousands of miles away and is one country, yet the military aid the US has given to Ukraine DWARFS all of Europe's combined. Military aid is more important than the economic aid Europe gives because without US military aid, Ukraine would have already collapsed
