As the years go by I keep coming back to this poem. Its legendary in my mind
Same
No lies told
6 years I’ve been listening to this piece. “Maybe love is a club, that we both got in for free”
I'm here again after 10 years
Found this poem when I was 15, fell in love and here I am at 25 still loving it. My favorite poem ever ❤❤
Your 27 now, welcome back 🎉
I remember hearing this in 2012. Went to bed listening to it and pretty much know it by heart. whew.
This poem changed my life and I swear after hearing this - I decided to stop doing myself a disservice with settling for something because it was convenient or because it was the only option. This poem was a part of my journey in waiting for God's best for me.
Two years later and it is still touching life and reminding me of the beauty of love
Tonyette White That is an amazing gift
Or ask God, If I could borrow the breeze for just a moment, and blow the shoreline of every beach into a giant hourglass made just for us, and say THIS, is how long I will adore the things about you that no one else even notices.
one of the best parts. love that line
Roe Mthunzi ok kkkkkkkkkk
Came back after all these years, so glad I saved it.
Listening to this again 9 years later feels amazing on my spirit.
This is still such a wildly important piece to me. I've never been able to get it out of my head. Maybe it's stuck swirling in my soul, I don't know. But thank you.
I’ll always come back here
Not one thing is sad in this poem, yet I cry. It's the utter beauty and honesty that clothes each and every word and the deep down desire to find someone one day that will be as willing to love all of me, as the man in this poem...
2024 and this poem still legendary. 🔥
"And maybe love is a club, that we both got into for free. And we just haven't stop dancing for all these decades cause we really like the music in here"
Stopped by to listen to my favorite poem in the whole world. I anticipate each line like I never heard it before. Still get chills multiple times as he speaks. Still reach for the replay button.
Years later and still one of my favorite poems
I've watched this video so many times. This is my absolute favorite video. This is the love I can't wait to have. ♥
“i dreamt of you nightly; hunted for your smile in every audience that i broke for. hoping that i could literally steal a glance; download it onto my retinas; and replay the moment our eyes first played freeze tag. and neither one of us wanted to stop being it; so we just kept on touching; hoping that father time would just give a hall pass. and allow us to orbit one another forever..”
the images in my head. thanks joshua.
Joshua Bennett is my all time favorite. I remember seeing this a little over a year ago. I really wish these poets from the Strivers Row were put into our English books. Every word he speaks is pure beauty and sounds like a symphony
This always makes me cry.
2020... this video randomly popped in my head.
Amazing ♥️
As beautiful as it was in 2012
This made my very little, fist-sized heart skip several beats... One day I will be that girl for someone too :). Joshua my man you are blessed with a gift that makes total strangers feel like they've known each other for an eternity...
He was born with a gift forged by circumstance and refined by creative presence. He has the ability to make poets dream again, and continue to inspire artists to keep writing. If no one else, he has inspired me..
Each year I come back to watch this. #Legendary
I alwayz wished I was talented enough to write beautiful poems like this. I will just have to settle for this bc this is one of the most amazing poets I have ever heard. So blessed.
Balaenoptera is the genus of rorqual whale species, including the largest animals of all time: the Blue whale, the Fin whale, Sei Whale, Brydes whale and others. Inspiring animals, so much so that this poem takes their name as its title
i just binged the title to find out what it meant and it made me love this poem all the more....
Balaenoptera is a genus of Balaenopteridae, the Rorqual whales, and contains eight species. The species Balaenoptera omurai was published in 2003. Balaenoptera is the most diverse genus of its family, the only other member being the Humpback Whale, Megaptera novaeangliae.
10 years later still reminiscing about the first time i heard these piece on twitter when i was doing my 12th grade
I still love this. 7 years later. I’m still in love
he makes me fall in love when I listen to his poetry
Yeeeesss Josh, you are simply amazing!! I've been following you and Alysia and Britney Wilson, since seeing all of you on Brave New Voices. I like everyone else I'm sure was just overwhelmed with talent, soulfullness, deep feelings and the love you all have for the Spoken Word. I stopped writing years ago and needless to say you all have inspired me to stop wasting my God-given gift and start again. Bless yall.
It ended too quickly. I wasn't ready.
I've been watching this video since 8 years ago. One of my all time favorites⚘
every time I watch this I burst out in tears & and my heart breaks why does this have to be so beautiful and why don't more guys think like this
A friend recommended this to me after hearing my poetry. I remembered, and this is amazing.
Thank you Spordy for sending me here. I probably would've never found this guy, thank God I did.
Since like 2013, this poem lives rent free in my mind.
I learned it off by heart for the first girl I actually fell in love with. A girl I haven't spoken to in years but a moment in history I wouldn't trade for a single thing.
And it's crazy cause now I am actually writing this comment being an ocean away from my family, yet the first time I heard this, I was in high-school
This is quite beautiful. First time I heard this I got goosebumps...If the world would share this kind of true love... WE'd have far less sadness. Truthfully beautiful!
I can damn near recite this word for word, I've listened to it so much.
the perfect amalgamation of words.
Still one of the most beautiful poems I've ever heard
Still one of my favorite poems of all time! When he says the last line... I get chills every single time!
Always a pleasure, Josh.
Wow..... totally speechless. ..!!!
goodness me. I just had an eargasm(if that's even a word) for the first time, this is what being a wordsmith is about. *shivers*
This is so beautiful. I don't understand why anyone would give a thumbs down
I listened to this when you first posted it. This is my definition of love,m. I recite it by heart. I share it often. I listen to it often. Thank you. Even 7 years later. Thank you.
Every year for the last 8 years I’ve come to watch this video 😭❤️
I have watched this 5 times and still can't get enough of it, such deeply beautiful words *single tear*
My favorite poem… I’ve listened to this over 100 times
Still my favorite poem of all time. Been watching this for years ❤❤😭 Joshua = Daddy
Breath taking
This is poetic justice
this is my favourite thing in the world 💖
That just melted me into joyful pieces..
ive watched this over 20x replayed it in my hear double that & attempted to write with such conviction more than I can account for & all I can say is must be nice to have found your balaenoptera
First time i listened to this poem, i believed in pure love. Unfortunately, there is very few of us who would experience this no matter how much we wished or worked for it. It takes just one terrible choice or judgement of character to fall into the hands of broken people who rip the innocence away from you. Goodluck to those who find it. There are far tol many people with horrible childhood to have this beauty spread around.
ypur voice is so smooth.. i love it.. ive listen to this poem multiple times..
My favorite poem of all time.
And then there were tears in my eyes. I love this so much!
I can't get enough of it !
everything about this is perfect.
Wow. You really took me on journey with that piece. Everything stopped in the room while that piece was going!
Lost count of how many times I have listened to this poem. Love it

So beautiful...
Your words allow me to keep my own hope strong that maybe there is a man who will appreciate me for all of my imperfections instead of tallying my faults. Thank you.
This is the most beautiful poem I have ever heard.
so beautiful
Crazy how when you're trying to find your style and voice you've been trying to achieve then you actually see it in action from someone
else is breathtaking and motivating. Can't wait to see him at Colorado College this week.

"If there were a gorgeous Olympics, you would be a lock."

this poem examplifies each section of a man's heart, that of one that shares such feelings of someone special...#SaluteTheStriversRow
When we are old
Hair the color of tombstones.
Bones,
That sound like wet windshield wipers whenever we slow dance through the living room.
I imagine,
That I will look you in the eye as if there is something small and precious imprisoned there.
And say to you
Darling...Did you know? that a blue whale has a heart the size of a car?
When you reply correctly as you always seem to do when I ask you difficult questions about oceanography,
I'll probably just laugh, rejoicing over the fact that every time you smile it makes the wrinkles at the corner of your eyes look like six willow branches all lifting their heads from prayer in unison
Wind, humming a somber hymn beneath it's breath.
Just as our anthem jogs to a close,
And I whisper in your ear,
"How did you know that I was the one?"
When all those well-dressed jackals came galloping to your door, begging for the rights to your ring finger.
What made you lock the deadbolt on your ribs?
Looking them squarely in the face, and saying with joy
"I am saving all of this beauty for a man I've never even met."
Did you ever doubt?
Ever sit in your dorm room and think that, maybe, your soul mate,
had chosen someone a lot more boring, but a lot less picky than you, and opted for the easy way out of a life filled with love.
When I was Twenty-two years old.
Beard freshly grown, An ocean away from my family with the kind of pain that drives men to do selfish barely forgivable things.
I dreamt of you nightly, hunted for your smile in every audience that I broke for.
Hoping that I could literally steal a glance,
Download it onto my retinas and replay the moment our eyes first played freeze tag.
And neither one of us wanted to stop being 'it'.
So we just kept on touching, hoping that father time would give us a hall pass, and allow us to orbit one another forever.
And speaking of orbits, did you know? That there are more stars in the sky, than grains of sand on the entire planet.
And That I would give you either one if you merely asked,
Peel the night from the sky's skin like the rind of an orange,
Or ask God, If I could borrow the breeze for just a moment, and blow the shoreline of every beach into a giant hourglass made just for us, and say THIS, is how long I will adore the things about you that no one else even notices.
Like your laugh, and how it sounds like a mix of Jimmy Hendrix at Woodstock, and two rainstorms singing perfectly in tune.
Those orthopedic shoes, and how they always match your cardigans perfectly.
Those crooked glasses, and how they dangle at the edge of your nose like the legs of two lovers on a tire swing, the last summer they will ever see each other's face.
The first time I saw your face, I thought "WOW"...
If there were a Gorgeous Olympics you would be a lock, And maybe I would be your key.
And maybe love is a club, that we both got into for free.
And we just haven't stopped dancing for all these decades because we really like the music in here.
And maybe, if you asked me to, I would crawl through the veins of a blue whale on my hands and knees, photograph that Volkswagen sized heart of hers, and place the picture on your pillow before you went to sleep.
When you ask me about, I'll probably just laugh, giggling, like I've got a handful of diamonds in my throat and say see, I told you.
The biggest heartbeat God ever made and now it's all yours.
