I was 3000 miles from home and a lonely soldier when I came across this one, and I watched strivers row like it was my religion. I’ll be 30 this year and it’s still the best poem I’ve ever heard. The way she foreshadowed scrambled eggs, then later she mentioned "over-easy" was so magical. She rlly paints a picture of what it looked like to visit him and the difficulty of long-distance relationships. The line of vinegar in the morning and how things went sour was beautiful word play. The way she uses food was powerful imagery of the senses. Also, the eggplant-colored fingernails. so beautiful
I love all her poems. She's always so deep, & puts so much emotion into her poems. She's one of my favorite poets. I wish my writing could be as good as hers. . . One day it'll get there but for now I'll continue to be inspired by her deep, passionate, raw emotion in her poems
I love Ben Howard so I was happy to come across a cover of one of his songs there is a beauty to her song that isn't in the original you should compare the two the original is Ben Howard depth over distance

I remember watching this at 13 years old and having no idea what this poem was about but knowing that she was very passionate about it , now at 20 years old I’m literally crying because now I understand and comprehend every word. I can’t describe how this poem makes me feel. It feels like a good cry & good cleanse. The amount of passion and ache I feel in this poem is unmatched. Thankyou Alyssia, you literally created a perfect poem. Beyond nostalgic and heartfelt.
