Just put these on my gibson les paul that has had nothing but horrible tuning stability. Holy crap these fixed that problem near instantly. Really easy to install and rock solid.
I just put a set on my Squier Bullet Mustang, only difference is mine was two plates, it appears you have a single plate. Very pleased with my locking tuners.
Just received Hipshot Chrome 6-inline Open Gear GripLock tuners. Looks really nice. I love the open gear. Looks very cool and i like that the open gear itself it is gold colour. Can't wait to install them.
This is such a great idea and product!! I ordered a set from stew Mac for a Warmoth neck. Now I don’t have to drill set holes, I can use the UMP and I’m gtg!!
I got a set for Christmas yesterday!! Am going to install in a few minutes; I'm excited. I wish you had like a black chrome color though; I got the black ones; I don't mind on this guitar but for my other guitars that came with space black / black chrome hardware I am going to have to go with the GOTOH MG-T locking tuners instead. I love the SK knobs though; really wish you just had some more color options!
I installed my Hipshot tuners on my Telecaster and the tuners were 19,20,21. Wonder if they changed the sizes since this video was made. Anyway it was very simple to put them in. Kudos to Hipshot.
I have a Jackson js 22 dinky dka and I wanna change the tuners for it what kind would I need to get for it? I really want one with the bracket and it's a 6 in line
This is so perfect. I need this for a Ibanez Apex20 Munky 7 String inline and the Ibanez M80M Meshuggah. The head of the M80M is a bit weird.. some reason about that? buy the way seen the Gibraltar replacement part on your website, looks great.
If you have an Ibanez go with the GOTOH MG-T locking tuners instead. They are a direct retrofit for the stock tuners...no drilling and no mounting plate required. They also come in the same color.
Hello, I have a 2002 Gibson Explorer and I really want to buy some grip-lock tuners for it. They look like they are not staggered to me, since the strings are equally aligned when viewed from the top of the head stock. I know there are 8.5mm and 10mm and that is my question. I think I need 8.5mm non-staggered, but I wanted to ask the professionals before I make a mistake. I cannot wait to get your excellent tuners on my main workhorse guitar!
So if you don't use the screws, why do the tuners come with screws and screw holes. Is it so you have the option of mounting them the traditional way or with the UMP? Also I bought a 6 in line set, but the UMP that came with it is in two pieces (as if for a 3 + 3), not like the one in this video. Is that a problem?
It sounds like your headstock is too thick for staggered post to work. I would recommend exchanging the tuners for a non staggered set from the dealer who sold them to you. If you have any issues with returning, reach out to us directly. info@hipshotproducts.com
i am really interested in purchasing a set of your locking tuners with ump. i have just purchased an esp edwards explorer and the gotoh tuners needs replacing badly as i need to tune a lot. a silly question would be, do you make tuners to fit my esp edwards explorer and if so any recommendations. thankyou.
I have 3 guitars that I would like to use your products on first I have a Fender Stratocaster Squier affinity , a fender modern player Telecaster Plus, and lastly and Epiphone Les Paul special 1. which kits would I need? should I get all vintage kits in case they're not at 10 millimeter
Just put the staggered set onto my strat and for although they fit perfectly, the tuning posts are extremely short, so much so that the E and B string tuner posts holes where the strings go are just above the nut. I haven't put my strings back on because I'm worried about stability and setup issues. How can I fix this????
Hi kuro9795, Thanks for reaching out! What guitar are you putting these tuners on? Also can you please tell me how tall they are? It should be marked in the blue box liner tray.
@@hipshot I have a Fender American Performer Strat. They came with sizes 19, 20, and 21 (I'm assuming the measurements are in millimeters likely) however my Fender Duo Sonic with stock tuners seem much taller. Anything I can do? We do have a vintage version that fits the smaller holes of a vintage headstock. store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=394 You are right about the screw holes though...
Thanks for the prompt reply, I will check the link you provided. Actually, the screw hole issue isn't a major concern - I have used matching color wax to fill in holes left after removing the pick guard from a Les Paul, can't tell that a screw was ever inserted.
Hello, my guitar is Gibson SG Standard HP 2016 and I really want to change my G-Force automatic tuner with these hipshot tuners. I saw in your video that for 3x3 headstock model you put one plate on each side of the headstock but on their website they have two plates for each side...which I don't like. My question is: Can I order the kit for 6 in line kit (which contain 2 plates) and use it on my 3x3 headstock?
Hi Ionut, We changed the design of the 3+3 plates because they were having trouble with the inconsistencies between models of guitar. The 2 plates per side model makes it much easier to guarantee that it will fit correctly on your guitar. Unfortunately, the 6 inline model does not fit on a 3+3 guitar. The holes don't fall in the same pattern.
People will try and get you down talking about the wood used on cheaper guitars. Forget about that, an electric guitars "tonewood" is completely cosmetic and doesn't play a factor in sound unless you've got the hearing of a dog. Go for it!
There isn't any chance of a Hipshot tuner upgrade kit for guitars with uniform 8.0mm tuning-peg holes, is there? Or failing that, a Hipshot UMP adapter product for third-party tuners compatible with 8.0mm holes like the non-Classic Gotoh SD91s?
+Leo Comerford You're in luck! We have a tuner upgrade kit designed for vintage style guitars. It's made for 8.5mm string post holes but there is enough tolerance room built in to allow it to easily fit your guitar. store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=394
Hello Hipshot Products. What do you mean by "tolerance room"? I just bought a set of the vintage size tuners for a guitar that I thought had vintage size holes. It is hard to measure exactly, but they (the holes in my guitar) must be slightly smaller than 8.5 and the tuners arrived but definitely will not fit (without reaming out the hole size). I definitely don't think they would fit an 8.00 mm hole.
Hi Dhgleaves, there could be one of several issues here... 1. The hole may be stepped. On several models of vintage fender style guitars, the hole in the front of the headstock is 8.5mm but the hole in the back is much smaller. This works fine for the Kluson style tuners that come with the instrument but don't work for the Hipshots. 2. There may be buildup of clear coat on the back, making the hole too small. In either case, reaming the hole will be necessary. If you need any further assistance, please reach out to us at info@HipshotProducts.com
Thanks, but I'm thinking that they just sent me the wrong size. I have tried them on 3 different guitars now. I have also sent you an email so would appreciate any help.
I just realized I got the non-staggered ones instead of the staggered. Credit to brainfarts. The tuners are going on a tele style headstock from Warmoth. The hell do I do to make this work? I don't want to spend any more money on tuners right now.
+Hipshot Products, Inc. well to counter my first question, would the Grip Lock closed tuners be a drop in replacement for a MiM strat or would I have to drill?
+Randall Williams Yes, without the UMP you would need to drill mounting screw holes for your MiM strat. Typically, the tuners on Fender guitars mount with either 2 pins on the back of the tuner or 2 screws (vintage Kluson style). In either case, the Hipshot tuners are not a direct retrofit without the UMP.
