Not totally Egg's fault though. Pay attention to Cornelius's counter on each of his turns. He was bugged, and his counter went down by 18 points randomly between his first and second turn. Now, if Egg brought along a weapon instead of the forcefield, he might have won anyways, but he still got fucked by that bug.
@@Zebo12345678 That's way more than 18 points too. It seems weakness bugged out cornelius pretty hard. Probably because it increases the counter? But then when the counter goes back to normal it decreases it again... on top of the original counter.
@@Zebo12345678 Absolutely correct. There's definitely a heavy RNG element to this game, but seriously don't bring shields to fights with Cornelius or the thief kid, you just need to burn them down. Also, bugs do suck though...
I don't get how such a simple game like this can have this many bugs. It must be really hacked together...
Either last episode or the episode before that, you started changing your equipment depending on the fight. I think you might have stood a better chance against Cornelius if you hadn't had the shield. Tough breaks though, Dicey Dungeons can be brutal.
@@MopedOfJustice He had to check cornelius abilities right when the fight started so he didn't remember therefore he couldn't know shield would be useless. Stop being so critical.

@@naishawn9840 Quite irrelevant. For once, much easier to just watch and be focused than play, comment/record at the same time. Also, "I have better memory than you. Improve your memory" is simply not a constructive criticism.
@@xaloriandndplaylist8499 he could also have just left the fight to re-equip once he noticed that the shield was going to do nothing for him, running away has always been an option.
@@SpookieGh0st good point but I have never seen him flee a fight and I have played a bunch (almost finished) without ever noticing that you could. Does he know that he can flee?

@@jackeea_ Ya, but if you don't have increment then it's still really good. And NL never takes increment anyway despite it being broken strong for robot.

This is a pretty misplay heavy episode, and I don't usually like talking about them because they happen to everyone, but if you are going to get upset about dice rolls not being in your favor you better make sure you're using what you DO get properly.
Not putting 6s into Ray gun, not putting 4s into ray gun so that you also have plasma for the low dice rolls are the big ones early on. Then there's also using your buster sword for high rolls before plasma or Ray gun.
I wish the egg would look at the enemy and think to himself what equipment he needs...
He spent hundred and hundreds of episodes of slay the spire without looking at any bosses after the first floor. There's no way he'd switch equipment for specific floor mobs in dicey dungeons.
A good tip is to stop thinking about the Robot as blackjack because you can actually easily manipulate the goal (unlike blackjack which is just luck and probability) and force constant jackpots with the right equipment, instead of just relying on luck. This is why Ultima Weapon is a thing, it works well because you can force frequent jackpots. Try that instead of a Buster Sword build next time!
Besides, your enemies usually have ridiculous turns in elim rounds & hard mode, so you can get auto-roll almost every turn.

He ended his 1st turn with 71 remaining in his attack. Started turn two with 53.
That's because it was weakened on that turn.
@@Petrahydrox The weakness increased the counter by one. That leaves 17 mysterious ticks on the counter unaccounted for.
Also Cornelius totally cheated. Nightmare started at 74 (weakness raised it to 75) at 26:35 and ended at 71, then the very next turn at 27:11 it started at 53 instead of 71, a full 22 point difference which would have taken at least 2 turns for him to manage otherwise.
I feel like Buster Sword is the best choice early, but Ultima Weapon is *ultimately* (see what I did there?) the better choice damage-wise as the run goes on and you get equipment that can guarantee jackpots more often. Basically: Ultima = higher DPS + Higher investment + more Risk, Buster = consistent DPS + lower investment + safer.
NL, you need to start changing equipment to match fights in these harder challenges. You absolutely could have beaten Cornelius if you hadn't gone in with a shield.
(Me, using the same equipment for the entirety of the bonus round): pathetic
Funny thing is if Cornelius didn't cheat he would have come really close to winning (probably would have) even with 2 wasted inventory slots.

This is really important when you enter a fight as the inventor and realize you only have the 2 things you want to keep, so you leave to put trash in your inventory so that you can save the good shit.

These episode 4 runs are brutal. Even with perfect play it would be tough to win

NL Genius Level thinking - Plasma gun and pea shooter are literally useless *walks into a fight with a 2 slot forcefield that only defends vs a cornelius* "WELL WHAT WAS I SUPPOSE TO DO". Idk your the genius NL, you tell me.

He had no idea what Cornelius moveset was therefore he had no way to do just that. Stop backseating and being critical with your own knowledge when you should know that his differs.
My own knowledge is from watching him play. hes fought Cornelius before aswell as the mentions of knowing he needs pure damage for him. might wanna watch his videos again.

Dude, did you see, how Cornelius cheated? He was on 71 after turn 1, but started at 53 on turn 2! Maybe some bugged interaction with weaken?
In general, this game is actually quite buggy. Which is a shame, because it is awesome and I like it a lot regardless.
Started on 74, weaken took it to 75, possibly some weird interaction with weakened nightmare & nightmare+

4:57 mans decides he'd rather get a 1 in 6 chance to heal for 3 instead of just healing for 3 as if its not a jackpot reward.
when you keep rolling a dice off your jackpot just to turn said dice into raw damage instead of taking the gurenteed 5, its even more painful how sometimes you stop to think and almost everytime you did you realized the 5 damage was better but still went with rolling half the time
I can only explain it with him having an addiction to gambling in videogames. There is no reason to roll 99% of the time :D
Lost to Cornelius today too as Inventor. (I had electromagnet and flamethrower as my only attacks). Today I learned that even with flamethrower you can't slow roll Cornelius.

Egg you're playing way too fast. Take your time, you're making many small mistakes that add up
I agree, except that is probably one of the few cases where i did not die because of one of this mistake (on the last run). The only mistake he did was rolling when he was 4 away from jackpot and blaming RNG for getting a 5 (it's a 1 in 3 chances, ending up in him missing a random status effect)
@@VictouffeVideos or the fact that he brought a completely useless piece of equipment to the last fight. I'm sure he would have made it just fine had kept spiked shield or some other piece of equipment that increased his damage output
@@pedroramirez8458 Oh yeah, knowing the fight taht's sure that you should not be taking shield with you. But you are asking him to look ahead of the figth and change his equipement accordingly. That's too much for the egg. And I don't know if spike shield is the best, because the condition is a bit hard. With his setup he needed something that was repeatable on 2 or less.

Here is a tip, You could have taken out Forcefield prior to fighting Cornelius in order to have more damaging equipment since you knew you would not need it.

Yes. It's bad. If you limit break first you know what dice you get plus can use your equipment. Ryab just uses it like some kinda consolation prize.
It depends. If the dice you would gain by using autoroll wouldnt be helpful, then you may as well try to hit the jackpot naturally
If you have used all your equipment it's better to roll before limit break, cause you'll get a natural jackpot sometimes and hence save your limit break for next turn.
why does the bully sometimes rock and sometimes fists
Having read a bit on how Terry handled AI, my suspicion is that losing an upgraded once-per-battle equip has a high enough penalty to offset the gains of dealing 1-2 extra damage. So he'll put 4s in fists+ (losing 2 damage), but put 5+ in rocks (correctly).
Why would he put dice into the Buster Sword before rolling more dice for more info? I don't know why out of all the myriad strange choices he makes I pick this one...
NL, Ultima weapon is way stronger in this mode since you get damaged much more often( you can also use it before you bust), also for the love of God please stop speedrunning the game, there is no boss rush..
There have to be dozens of us that feel that way. I think I first noticed it with Sekiro. This egg needs to slow down. He so certain right out the gate on his decisions it takes him forever to get out of bad habits

MehYam2112 you can’t say never- he used to play smarter (Like even a year ago). This speed run BS is new. I think he’s getting tired of his job and knows he gets more content out the faster he completes a video- even if it sucks.
I think it's more about episode time. He tries to squeeze in a lot of episodes per day, and likes to make them 30 minutes each. I think he's watching the clock a lot for that main reason.

@@thunderbird0134 which he couldn't change equipment before cornelius because he didn't remember what corcelius did. Only real mistake he made was using the auto roll after busting out except of before to get to use one more equipment but it wouldn't have changed anything result wise.

Sad thing is I actually believe he meant what he said and wasn't completely sure if it'd give him the 4. Then again, he uses it after busting so much how could he really know better by this point?
You need to start changing equipment on a per fight basis like you know what all the enemies do and which equipment would be useful against each one of them
Why would you go into the cornelius fight without swapping out all your defensive equipment for attacks... Less salt, more thinking, please.
Advice for next time brother : remove shield when fighting Cornelius, go with a damage option like spike sheild

I don't think I've seen NL do it, so what happens if you autoroll as the first action of your turn? Let's say at target 13. Is it a guaranteed 6-6-1?
No, it doesn't guarantee the highest roll , it's just any combination that gets that number. I /think/ (without any actual knowledge of the true mechanic) it rolls regularly until a bust would happen, and makes the last dice as low as is needed to jackpot instead.
Additionally, I beliiieve it targets the earliest jack pot number (so if someone had chest code it would go for the beginning of the range).
However, especially that second part of what I said is something I am very unsure of
In my experience it's always just a random set adding to the lowest jackpot, so it could be 6-6-1, or 4-3-3-2-1, or even 1(13).
Using Forcefield against Cornelius? Your better bet would have been to use Ray Gun and Plasma Blaster in place of Forcefield and keep rolling Cheat Code for more guaranteed Jackpots. Defenses against Cornelius are a joke. Just keep to full on offense against him and, even upgraded, you should be fine.

Did Cornelius just cheat? 26:38 ended his turn on 71 countdown. 27:12 started his turn on 53 countdown.
Why didn't he change sheld for damage before fighting cornelius, it's not like it comes as a suprice..

Egg, learn to slow down dude. Your far enough in the game you should know which kind of build characters have and should be taking time to look at and swap equipment before fights. Also the face you made when Cornelius rolled 3 dice, all 6's. I've been watching you for 7 years, and egg cam is something you've always shyed away from, but this treasure, Egg, is priceless. Please slow down and git gud!

With these rolls I don't think even replacing the shield with useful damage dealing equipment would have helped...

Up until this difficulty I really wanted to buy this game but I'm on a very tight budget so waiting some time. But now these levels make me think maybe I'm better off without it, it's frustrating enough to watch. I know Egg Daddy makes mistakes but man some of these rounds are bullshit.
He didn’t know Cornelius’s move set before entering the fight, your complaint is invalid
He should know the enemies by now though
Cornelius is unique enough and always gives NL a scare. If anything it should be the 1 enemy he *does* remember
NL knows how to run and how to check enemy attacks, so, in effect, he can tailor his equipment for enemies he has never even seen before.
Think it might be time to retire the series, like I get that Egg isn't playing 100% optimally all the time but I'm with him in that it's mostly about variance from this point onwards which kind of makes it less enjoyable to watch.
Too bad because the game seemed pretty fun and light-hearted at first
