Only now I realized how well it fits thematically that freezing Sneezy makes him almost useless. Pure design.
And freezing snowman guarantees he gets a hit that freezes you back whilst freezing hothead makes him unable to attack because freeze items use odds and burn uses evens. All the enemies are quite subtly thematic.
Is the theme that you're just making sneezy cold so he keeps sneezing and can't attack? It's so wonderful
thats how a lot of thier characters are! things that dont do well in cold are often enemies whom frost works well against. Also how the wizard and sorceress have witch builds and the jester has a jester build (a little more on the nose) but the games really good with its themes, very charming
I just want to see a game where he only uses Hall of Mirrors and throws all of his dice every round.
I had to kill a Cactus in the elimination round like that, cause I had magic shield keeping my hp safe from attacks and hall of mirrors ramping my dice pool up but it kept stacking thorns and i had too low hp going into the fight to hit it without dying so i had to wait for the (roughly one in eight) chance for it not to roll an odd to stack thorns, and came out of the fight with 60 something dice in my pool.
My laptop started to slow down and the dice started all piling up in one spot at the top of the screen, it was really strange. And probably the least fun I've had playing the game but w/e.
I want to see an episode where he uses Hall of Mirrors consistently at all.
Its a great build if you can also have heals. Its a run built on patience, but poison counters you hard. Lost a 45 minute run to haunted jar.

I like how smart the design in this game is. The snowman is strong against ice, but they don't need a stat effect for that, instead putting his strength into the fact that all his attacks take odds. So freezing him means he has a higher probability of being able to attack and freeze you.
Thematically, it goes even further than that. What are the snowman's attacks called? "Snowball". He's throwing snowballs at you. And since snow is basically ice, by freezing his dice _you're giving him ammunition!_

My dude, Magic Missile goes great with Ice Shard, because evens go into Magic Missile, and odds go into Ice Shard. You said "we're literally never using it" and I was just scratching my head, because I agreed with you, but I couldn't understand *why* you weren't using it.
also it does 7 damage in an upgraded slot, which is pretty much the highest constitent damage you can get
True, but silver cauldroning all evens for maximum freeze seem to work, possibly better than the alternative. Except for in the Snowman fight, but that's probably it

Except it would probably be pretty good in the Snowman fight. Freezing his dice means that some of yours would always be frozen - you would always have odds for Ice Shard and, more importantly, magic shield
Uzii the correct play for snowman would have been upgraded silver cauldron to turn all those 1's into 3's and 5's

4 and a 5, one attack that only takes an odd, other can take anything. Puts the odd in the one that can take either, throws the 4.

Here's a proof for splitting odds and evens.
Theorem: splitting an even results in either two evens or two odds, and splitting an odd results in one even and one odd.
Proof: a number can be only odd or even and never both. So we consider cases of addition.
Case 1: we have two evens. By definition of even, we may write these numbers as 2m and 2n where m and n are integers. Then their sum is 2m + 2n = 2(m + n) by the distributive property, and m + n is a natural number by closure, thus our sum is 2*[natural number] which is even. This is the definition of an even number.
Case two: both are odd. Then we may write each number as 2k+1 and 2j+1 where j and k are natural numbers. Summing these two yields 2k+1 + 2j+1 = 2j+2k+1+1 since addition is commutative = 2j+2k+2 = 2(j+k+1) which is again an even number.
Case 3: one number is odd and one is even. We may write the even as 2u and odd as 2v+1 where u and v are natural numbers. Their sum is 2u + 2v + 1 = 2(u + v) + 1: an odd.
Since these are all cases, an odd can only be decomposed to the sum of an odd and even, and an even can only be decomposed to the sum of an even and even or odd and odd. Q.E.D.

Hey there Lion from the North!
A bit of advice concerning the witch, always put a damaging spell on 1, never put dublicate or nudge in it!
Reason is, if you get your dices frozen over and over again, you're dead.
Ice shard is, in my opinion at least, the best spell to start with but make sure you change your starting spell to fit the enemy you're facing, you may not want to give 1's to certain enemies.
Finally, if you get your hands on life drain, DON'T SKIP IT, it's the red string that leads toward victory.

So basically this episode is telling us that after many hours into this game, NL still has trouble with upgraded stuff.

i think NL has historically overrated magic shield and it has put him in many predicaments due to lowering his damage
That snowman fight was beautiful. I saw his brain expand into the 5th dimension as it revealed the truths of the universe.
NL forgets that 5 is an odd way to many times this video.

A Dirty Ewok this turn really aggravated me because he totally screwed himself out of the silver cauldron which is necessary to shuffle the frozen dice
@@noahman02 Whatever misplays there were, it felt like that turn was where the witch clicked a little more for him, and he started considering more of his options. And besides, it's just fun to watch a lot of dice be played on a turn haha

Honestly, I really hope this becomes a regular game. The mechanics are simple, but it looks like there's a lot of potenial for some eggy shenanigans!

Good news, each of the dice have unique episodes. The warrior for example, he has an episode where leveling up lowers his max hp. The robot meanwhile has an episode where he can pick what dice he gets but risks locking away his equipment this way.
Wouldn't hall of mirrors be the best starting spell because the sooner you can use it the better
Yes, unless you have a way to quickly close out a fight, (usually through weakness). NL undervaluing Hall of Mirrors, even in boss fights kills me.
It depends, having defensive options like Ice Shard open to you immediately can also be good. Also on random encounters, you usually want to close things out as quickly and safely as possible, and don't usually have time to get through the vulnerable start with a Hall of Mirrors slow growth style fight.
I love hall of mirrors, but not as a starting spell, 6 only is too restrictive... I prefer magic shield as the starting spell, but I like to turtle up and win by throwing 17 dice on the last turn, so my spell board usually looks like shield, shield or heal, heal, upgraded Hall for basically the whole fight. Sometimes ice shard earns a spot if the enemy had high damage potential

NL please, PLEASE use HALL OF MIRRORS. Every 2 times you use it, you get another action per turn, basically. Actually, please just realize in general that repeatedly summoning spells in the same turn is a thing. More hall of mirrors = more actions per turn = more options = wins. Please my dude, this is killing my soul.
I actually was pulling my hair out when he'd replace it with ice shard in the upgraded slot
especially when he has it already prepared, has too many dice, and doesnt cast it for the hell of it before replacing it with Ice Shard

NL peaked my interest do I did the proof questioned at 10:40. Yes, if you split an odd number into two numbers, one is guaranteed to be even, and the other odd.
Proof:
Define an even number as 2n (even numbers always divide by 2).
Define an odd number as 2n+1 (the number after an even number is always odd).
If you add two even numbers, 2n+2n = 4n, which is 2(2n), and therefore even.
If you add two odd numbers, 2n+1+2n+1 = 4n+2, which is 2(2n+1), and therefore also even.
If you add an odd and even number, 2n+2n+1 = 4n+1, which is 2(2n)+1, and therefore odd.
Therefore, the only way to get an odd number is by adding an odd and even number, therefore conversely, dividing an odd number requires both an even and odd number.
Jeeesus the misplays. Mayb3 the most I have seen on such a dominant run.

I'm really impressed by the enemy variety in this game, also the fact that the same enemies can appear with different levels and are adjusted accordingly. Slay the Spire could learn something from this. It's a well designed game but enemy variety just isn't there.

Mathematical proof of being guaranteed to get an even from splitting an odd:
Even + even = even
Odd + odd = even
Even + odd = odd
Eyyyy the mad lad won as witch 2 times in a row

The mathematical proof is a proof by contradiction. Suppose we put an odd into Magic Key. The only way to NOT get an odd and an even is to get 2 of the same thing, i.e. 2 odds or 2 evens. But odd + odd = even, and even + even = even, so we would have to have put an even in to get either of those. But we didn't, we put an odd in. This is a contradiction, and so 1 odd and 1 even is the only possible result, QED.
Kinda wordy, but you get my point. Odds always give one of each, and mirroring the proof using the fact that odd + even is always odd, evens always give 2 of the same thing, which (for 4+) can be either odd or even.
Note that both of these are still true no matter what the highest number on the dice is. They could be d6, d12, d100, d4305, doesn't matter. I think that's neat.

Try using less spells with the Witch. I had a great run with her where I only used 3 spells. It was way less overwhelming in terms of options. And with the right spells you have a purpose for all of your dice!

If you throw both evens and odds, you always have an option with the 3 starting dice.

NL I love you, but when you don't put your 6's into the upgraded freeze spell and instead turn them into 3's and such it causes me physical pain. Even after all that he beats the run. The absolute eggman
when you move into your new house make sure you get a green screen. it will make your background transparent and provide a better cam
NL, silver couldon goes on an even dice if you want it to contribute to your odd dice economy.
