Is it necessary to fully compress the piston using the compression tool after taking it off. I don't have that tool and was wondering if I can skip that step. Or I can just use regular clamps and some wood lol.
It may not be necessary to totally compress the piston back in all the way, but it needs compressed enough to make room for the new brake pads since new pads have more material than old ones, a c-clamp and small piece of wood will work just fine for pushing the piston in
How long did it actually take you to do both sides of the rear? I'm asking because Toyota dealership is wants to charge my girlfriend over $200 to change both sides of the rear on her 2015 Rav 4. I told her that's way too high. Before I became disabled, I could have done it with basic hand tools in 35-45 minutes. Rockauto has the pads for $15
cheap pads are a waste get good quality usually come with clips.. dealer uses nice pads and clips ..200 not bad.. could go up if rotors get cut it may be in price, got a letter from toyota about brakes theycut them too.. plus dealer will change bad boots you may not..
Are the rear brake pads different from the front brake pads, for example, do the rear brake pads have thinner wear material than the front brake pads? If so, how much different?.
thank you very much, I was hoping you would show how to put the clips on too, but very informative
I love your "THOR"que ( Mjolnir ) wrench at minute 10:19 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's funny you say that, everyone calls my mini sledge "Thor"
Excellent work
Thank you, very good presentation .
Great video, thanks!
Do u need to install the bottomed clips for the inner amd outer pads ?
Thanks Dan very good video.

I'd say about half an hour or so. If I was in a hurry, maybe 15-20 min
At a dealership that's a reasonable price. If you go to a smaller shop they'll charge 100-150 for the labor

Brake pad grease?

What kind of retarded question is that 😐🤣🤣🤣
Thank you, Dan T M G.
Thank you so much
Do you grease the back of the pads?
No grease! But you can smear brake lubricant to help quiet down brake pad squeal
@@theman9764 that is actually what I meant. Thank you
If you're looking for good instruction on a brake/rotor job for your Rav......
Keep looking
@@JasperJokerII thanks for the comment! Have a blessed day!
Appreciate 👌🏾👌🏾
Does grease not get applied to threads and pad plates😮to prevent seizures 🫢no cleaning the caliper, and piston seal🇬🇧
Depends on the condition of the current brake system, if everything is already clean and not rusty, i don't usually worry about it
Why didn't you adjust the drum brakes?
Off camera i tested them and they held just fine so no need for it
Same processing to make electric brake
