It's a mushroom bounty that lasts a short few weeks each spring. Enjoy morels year round by preserving them. Not sure what is the best method to preserve morels? Here I cover cleaning, freezing and dehydrating, and compare the two preservation techniques in a cook off. Both techniques are very easy and will give you a quality product.

Just got into my first lucky find ever today. Always seems to get a few here and a few there but today I can dehydrate or freeze some. 4lbs of heaven being processed. I remembered this video and had to come back for your take. I’m doing both to taste for myself. Thanks Tyler! Always a great knowledgeable resource I can trust!

I believe it! I’ve found them in so many weird places, it made me rethink everything I’ve been told or read abt finding them. Since then I have quadrupled the amount I find every year now. Keep looking and enjoy!!

Know a fellow who came upon a hillside of chantrells while muzzle loader hunting elk. He didn't get an elk, but took home over a hundred pounds of chantrells. He canned them for the winter. I found about four to five pounds of chantrells and pickled them. They were great. They also dry well.

Great vid! Was always curious about this and your perspective seems pretty balanced whereas others always seemed to prefer dehydration. Freezing just seems easier when you’ve foraged a lot of morels. Thanks!

I always split them in half and rinse the bugs out that sometimes hide Inside. If you skip this step you are guaranteed to eat some frozen, dead, flour covered bugs.

      That's why you soak them

@@truckskate9677 I soak my mushrooms for hours and... Once I slice them in half there still will be a stray slug or millipede.
It's always best to slice them in half unless you enjoy eating slugs and millipedes.

Wondering why your morels have such dark caps. Minnesota has mostly light tan, brown. 😊 Also 2023 price has skyrocketed to $60 a pound!😢😮

Some cooks say you have to cook them before you freeze them, or they get bitter...
