You shouldn't soak them in water, there's really no point, all it does is make the mushroom even more mushy. A few bugs and a little dirt is natural and harmless. The FDA even regulates a certain amount of bugs allowed to be in everyday produce you buy at the store.
I would agree.. it just depends on the level of bugs you have. We’ve picked some with no bugs at all, other batches have had complete ant colonies in them. Just depends on the level of stuff in them and your personal comfort level with the amount of “extras” you want in your mushrooms.
