The History of the Bad Piggy Bank - Angry Birds Plush

- Around mid-2010, Angry Birds was set to make its way to Android devices, though some compromises had to be made so their user base could experience the same number one hit game as those on iOS. Making the game free-to-play but with advertisements was step one. Step two was allowing those who preferred the pay-to-play with no ads experience to do so, but this was more complicated than it might seem. Rovio created an all new billing system that aimed to provide consumers with an easy way to pay for Angry Birds and other mobile games. Dubbed as the Bad Piggy Bank, it gave users the ability to pay to get rid of the advertisements on the app or purchase the Mighty Eagle with the click of a button. After its inevitable failure, Rovio went back to the drawing board and created Angry Birds Magic, an all new way to play Angry Birds that incorporated NFC technology. Merchandise lines were planned for both of these innovation attempts, but neither came to fruition, the most infamous example being the Bad Piggy Bank plush by Commonwealth. Today, we look back at the Bad Piggy Bank and attempt to address all questions associated with it, covering every aspect imaginable. This video will include analysis, postulations, and some storytelling.

Hello, everybody. A few quick and pertinent updates. This is likely the last video of Summer 2022, as I literally have College starting next week and that will likely consumer most of my time going forwards. However, I'm committed to not going on hiatus again, so I will do my damnest to make sure there's some content. Maybe an upload every month or two if possible. We'll see, this isn't confirmation of anything. I'll play it by ear. I love making this content as much as you guys like watching it and I appreciate all the support I've gotten over these past few months. I had seen some images of the Piggy bank plush before, but I had no clue it was created because of an old in game feature. This type of obscure Angry Birds history is why I subscribed. 👍

When you were talking about the tush tags having letters at the bottom to indicate which factory they were made in, I have a helmet pig plush with the initials FY on it. I’d like to note that it’s the goodstuff version of the plush. Also I got the obi-wan plush with the goodstuff tag upside down.

What an awesome video I didn't even know about it. And speaking of angular plushies but I don't completely understand I don't understand the hockey bird I know it was released in Finland in 2012 but I don't know exactly why it's so sought after. I would love to see a video about it.
Trust me, I'll be covering that fiasco eventually. Hockey Bird's story isn't nearly as interesting, but I think many will enjoy it when I get to it.

Do you actually know the origin of these plushies? I never got an answer to their origins, so I'm genuinely curious of where they came from.
The Singtels were a promotion I believe in Hong Kong (or some other country around there, not exactly sure) back in 2010.

Hey maximus, now that I looked on my plush tag of space bomb, I saw the MHB, but no number. It says "Distribuido por TOY PLUS INTERNATIONAL S.A." (Distributed by TOY PLUS INTERNATIONAL S.A.) And it says that it was made in China. I'm not sure if its authentic or not.
Toy Plus was the distributor for the Central American markets, and I believe parts of South America too. They are genuine Commonwealth, though they're quite a bit different.

So I just recently got an angry birds plush. It's a Christmas Red but the tag was throwing me off. The bird came with a outer tag and it has the commonwealth logo at the top with other information I'll get to in a second. The tush tag has instead of a HK it has a BD and says it was distributed by good stuff toys. And has not for retail sail on both tags. The information seems very legit with manufacturing place, the MHB heart (though it is a little off center), the C E and much more little details. I'm not saying it's impossible to be faked. I wanted your opinion though if it is fake I don't care I'm just having one to have it not for resale. Thank you for reading this
You never heard of a Good Stuff Toys variation? Those were put in claw machines back in the day.

Yes, though I don't believe there are as many as there used to be.

@@silliestbilliestbilly29282 - They're mostly in Europe and Asia. Couldn't tell you where. And as I've mentioned before, Commonwealth Toys has not produced Classic plushies officially since 2014.

With which tag? I assume you’re talking about the tush tag. As I discussed in the Classic set video, those tags indicate that the plush is a Good Stuff Toys variations likely sourced from a claw machine.

That is me. But what I have for sale is all I'm selling currently. I typically sell off items if I find better ones to replace them. For example, if I had a Red without tags and found one with, I'll sell the old off to pay for the new one. A secondary goal of mine is to get every plush with a side tag. If they can be had at a reasonable price or a price where I know I can make my money back, I'll do it.
